Well…Saturday was a productive day and the leak down test and compression test came back with the 383 in good health.
Fair to say with only about 3000 kms since rebuild motor is now staying in the car.
Car has had a history of running hot since the rebuild and overheating while in traffic.
We found several issues including both upper and lower rad hoses collapsing when temps got hot…the radiator and fan aren’t proper for the car and I replaced the pullies with March chrome pullies and the sizes verses factory are different.
SO all those issues are going to addressed properly and I’m sure will solve the high temp issues once and for all.
The transmission was another issue and upon removal of the trans we found the clutch fork partially off and operating on an angle causing the release bearing to be damaged and in need of replacement.
The factory Hurst shifter is also worn and needs a rebuild or replacement.
The Centreforce dual friction clutch and flywheel looked in good shape so they will be reinstalled.
It was also nice to confirm the bell housing and transmission components are all original.
Plan with the transmission is to find someone knowledgeable with the Mopar A833 4spd transmission and have it opened up and checked and replace any parts required.
We confirmed the car has a 3.23 rear gear so with the 28” rear tire the 4spd will do the job and remain.
And last both header gaskets were leaking so new gaskets and hardware will be installed and thinking of having them recoated while removed.
Also thinking about adding an H or X pipe to the exhaust, hi flow cats to reduce the smell and possibly switching up the mufflers from the Flowmaster 2 chambers to something else.
Does anyone know someone knowledgeable in the Mopar world in the GTA for the transmission?
