    2024 Mustang GT Engine Whine

    2024 Mustang GT automatic with 800Km on it. Today we noticed a slight whine that matches the engine rpm in park or neutral. Because its a convertible you can hear it a bit when at low speed on city streets. On an older car I would suspect the alternator, power steering pump or another serpentine belt-driven accessory......but one of these at 800 Km??? I can not isolate the sound by ear. Before I take it to the dealer and they get at it - are there any forum members who have experienced this issue on a 2024 GT and if so do you have suggestions?

    AC compressors are prone to being noisey on the 550 (especially when cold), also common to fail.

    @R3troGT ..... Glad your 2024 GT is fine so far. Mine was - none of the gap issues or paint defects mentioned by other 2024 GT owners. I did install the kit from DIYvan to close the fender liner holes but that was easy. The "whine" started yesterday at about 800 Km. Only noticed it slightly at low speeds and when in neutral/park. The whine increases in sound level to match the rpms. I did go to the 7G forum (thank you for that!). Most of the discussion was about transmission whine on 2019-2022 GTs and involved their automatic transmission fluid pumps. Not sure if that would apply to 2024s as Ford was supposed to have corrected that issue and if it was the transmission pump(s) why would the sound get louder when the GT's transmission was in park/neutral? Still mystified. Guess a trip to the dealer will be necessary. Wonder if it is the septentine belt? Thanks for your help!

    @ZR..... would the AC compressor still whine if the AC was shut-off? Wondering if it is the serpentine belt? Thanks for your help.

    I have 750 KM on mine so very close to to yours. The only issue I have is with Sync 4, where the screen will not accept any touch input or it drop the connection to my phone. I have the same shit happen with my F150. A reboot by holding down two buttons usually resolved it. Still annoying.

    If it's not spinning it should be quiet but also suspect it could be the AC clutch bearing making the noise.

    @ZR and friends..... was at the dealer today - the dealer's Answer: SSM 51939 2017-2023: Various Vehicles 10R60/10R80/MHT10R80 Transmissions - Whining noise from Bellhousing/Front Of Fluid Pan At Idle And/Or While Driving - to paraphrase the bulletin it said - vehicles with the above transmissions may have this whine. The whining increases with RPM in park at idle or while underway. A "small" amount of "whining" noise is considered a characteristic of these transmissions due to the offset gear drivetrain in the front support and has no effect on duarbility. Owners with concerns may record their concern via OASIS. My dealer sent Ford a message via OASIS and gave me a printed copy of the service bulletin (SSM 51939) and their dated service invoice to Ford for my records, just in case. At the moment, if Ford offered me a new transmission I would decline at this point as the "whine" is minimal and who wants a new vehicle taken apart? If it gets louder I'll be back and the dealership says no problem. Hope I don't have to test that theory!

    The dealership Service Manager and their Mustang "specialist" technician spoke with me. They felt the whine was on the low side of noise they had heard and I agree. They felt "getting into the bell housing" for the level of noise we all heard was not a great idea. ***** I saw a youtube video where I guy who had Ford replace the transmission on his 2023 Mustang GT and got a new one that had an even louder whine and wished he had just left the matter alone! The dealerhip said that they would undertake warranty work if the noise became "severe" and I was left with the distinct impression that they would respect my opinion of "severe" ..... particularly because I have a convertible and - in my case - the noise is more noticible outside the car than when it is enclosed. BTW I said the service bulletin was for 2017-2023 Fords and mine was a 2024 and asked about that. Two things: one - my 2024 was manufactured in 2023 and two - the service manager said the 2024s would have the exact same transmission, so the servive bulletin will be up-dated to include 2024s. BTW ll I only started hearing the whine at 900 Km which is apparently normal. After the gears get their "set" there can be some whining. Hope this information is helpful to someone. BTW lll - I really love the GT..... I haven't even pushed it and it goes like stink. These GTs are awesome cars. :-)

    Sorry missed you have an auto, every S550 I've been in whines, especially at take off.

    @ZR.... very interesting info re- S550s BTW - there is a video posted on the 7G Mustang website by forum member @thelostone regarding the "Typewriter Tick" from his 2024 GT. I scrolled down the discussion and found where a video of his GT was posted. You could hear the "tick" easily but you can ALSO hear the exact same "whine" that I heard coming from mine. It was weird to see the video with a 2024 Vapor Blue 2024 GT (fastback) - and mine - a 2024 Vapor Blue 2024 GT (convertible) with the same transmission "whine" - according to Ford. The sound is very distinct and sounds like a mini supercharger.
