DD needs to be dead-nuts reliable. Even if budget allows, I would not mod it. Don't need the insurance hassles either.

Mod the budget!
I generally DD mod when OEM fails. Like if the struts go, replace with leveling kit bilsteins or better yet, Fox's with bypass and better springs. Wear out the tires, up size and get better. Blow the factory speakers and get some nicer ones and headunit.
When I t-boned a Jeep with my leveled, big tire, modded DD, my insurance guy told me they didnt total it because it was such a nice truck and replacing it would cost my insurance co more.
Not advocating strapping an exocage and nitrous in your DD, but like, making it your own and something you love to drive, fuck ya.
