You did miss something.............................being pissed off.
I can understand if the drivers/teams wanted to go out there and run 20 laps hoping to get one good one in where they caught the draft right and then made the good move to pass before the finish line. But if they did this on lap 1 then the rest of the field would have 19 more laps to do the same thing. I guess this is what NASCAR wants. But this concept is flawed as nobody wants to set an early time and hope it holds while others keep trying (with warmer tires in later laps). So it makes the most sense to do what the drivers/teams did - hold out as long as possible to take the one shot at the lap with all other cars in the same boat (one chance, same tire temps) but not being the one to lead the pack. The drivers did what they had to do in that circumstance and the Hendrick cars got luckiest. The problem was that NASCAR thought they could make a 3hr live event out of this. FAIL.
