In Hamilton right now. Feels like summer
Feels like summer right now. Went for a little drive to do some shopping in Bolton. Had the windows down. Wife loved it.
Hopefully winter is over up north by the end of the week when I go back. Ya right.
I recently discovered that when you buy an item on sale, the tax is paid on the full price, not the reduced price.
Vapor tax
Maybe he meant Vape Tax? Never shop while high.....
Unless the sale price is after a rebate, in which case the tax is charged on the pre-rebate amount.
I second the “don’t bargain hunt while high”
I was in Costco, looked at my receipt which came in higher than anticipated. I went to service and had it explained.
I'm just reporting.
If an item is on a manufacturers reimbursement or rebate program (I.E. Michelin give you $500 off tires if you buy a full set of 4) or if it's a manufacturers coupon (DieHard batteries issues a voucher to get $25 off a battery if you present it at checkout) then tax is due on the full retail amount. If a store like Costco using their buying power to reduce the price of an item from the regular listed amount (they bring in an additional 1,000,000 Husky socket sets so it reduces their unit cost $15 so they mark the product down $10) then tax is due on the new sale price.
On bigger ticket items (tires, consumer electronics, home furnishings) larger stores will often pre discount a manufacturers rebate, such as instead of having the customer buy the aforementioned tires for $2500 and mail in the rebate for $500 they will sell the tires for $2000 (plus tax on the pre rebate amount) and handle the rebate with manufacturer themselves in order to get more customers in the door.
