Hope he's okay.
I saw on Twitter someone saying he was awake so that's a good sign if true.
OMG............hope he's ok.
Just heard from a friend who races Modifieds in Ontario, that they performed CPR prior to putting him in the ambulance!
Hopefully, it’s not as bad as it sounds.
They put up screens to shield the area.
Also media were asked to leave the pit area.

It's incredible to me that Hamlin does fucking donuts in the grass while this is going on. Nascar again drops the ball on what to do.
Well I watched Dale Earnhardt die in the 500. I hope I didn't just watch the same thing again. It's eerily similar by the broadcast crew. I won't watch anymore.
I was there 4 or 5 years ago when a car went into the fence at the finish line and broke in two at the Xfinity race and the driver walked out (same in the Cup race the next year) so I don't think he was thinking too much about it when he did the donuts but was clearly concerned once he got out of the car and was briefed.
Hamlin doesn't run the show, Nascar is suppose to be controlling what does or does not happen.
To me, poor taste everything beyond max effort to look after Ryan Newman was not put immediately on hold.
UPDATE.
Ryan is in serious condition but injuries are not life threatening.
Good to hear it's not the latter.
Absolutely.

Thank god he's okay.
Hope he makes a speedy recovery.
I think Nascar needs to evaluate whether or not they really need Daytona and Talladega on the schedule, because it's clear they can't keep the cars on the ground no matter what they do.
I was pretty sure Newman was a goner last night. Still won't be surprised if he has some awful injuries, but the fact he is alive is incredible.
I think we all had similar thoughts Andy, thankfully at least some positive news thus far.
Jesus, just watched crash on YouTube.... pray for speedy recovery!!! Thoughts and prayers for Mr. Newman.

I seem to remember a similar flip in the truck race. They need to figure out how to keep these cars on the ground.
And keep Indy cars off ovals (but that's a whole different conversation)
Cars are flipping almost every time we go to one of these tracks. The more concerning part is how/why these wrecks are happening. Newman got dumped. Blaney trying to say he was helping him to win is such bs. Blaney drove through him. The "win no matter what" attitude is going to kill someone.
They need to make the front of the car more fragile to stop the pushing.
Hamlin and Gibbs apologize for celebrating citing they had no idea how severe the accident was.
Skip it the end of this video. You can see they basically cut the whole roof and doors off the car. Nothing left of it.

Blocking is the problem,,,,just ask Logano the douchebag!
Geoffrey Bodine in 2000. I remember staying home from school "sick" so I could watch the race.

Driver was ok after this one. Not sure how they would minimize the blocking or pushing - the latter seemed to have caused several crashes since start of this Speedweek.

I found this on Twitter, hope it's accurate.
Idea to fix pushing on Super Speedways.............make front of the car so fragile that even the smallest of pushes immediately takes the rad out.

Ryan Newman is walking and grinned while posing for a photo with his daughters Wednesday, continuing his remarkable recovery from a horrific crash during the Daytona 500.
Newman’s racing team and wife shared updates on his condition as he continues to receive treatment at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach.
His Roush Fenway Racing team released the following statement Wednesday:
“Ryan Newman continues to show great improvement after Monday night’s last-lap accident at Daytona International Speedway. The veteran driver is fully alert and walking around Halifax Medical Center. True to his jovial nature, he has also been joking around with staff, friends and family while spending time playing with his two daughters.”
