View Full Version : 2017 GT just lowered making rear end noise.

Hey all. Well, I've had my GT for exactly 1 week. I had it lowered a couple days ago at a shop I thought was reliable. I've had work done there in the past on my old mustangs and they always seemed good. But now I am getting really bad rear end noise, when going slow or reversing I can hear creaking and clicking from the passenger side, then If I go into a driveway or an incline and the suspension goes under load I get a really bad loud clunk from the drivers side. Needless to say I'm extremely upset. I can't bring it back to them until Monday and this has ruined my whole weekend. I don't think I will make the Sunday cruise either because I don't want to drive it like this. It seems to be getting worse as I drive it more. I spent $700 for the install, should I bring it back to them to see if they can fix it or just find another shop? I'd hate to have to pay someone else to fix it, but I am losing faith in this shop now. Any ideas what they might have done wrong? Thanks for any input.

Could be a few things... Sub frame bolt(s) loose, shock bolts, spring not seated correctly. I'd not drive it (as you dont wan something failing at speed) and take it back. It's likely something very simple as it's not a complicated install.

If you don't take it back then YOU have to pay-its that simple
I would be amazed if a competing shop would fix it for free

Well , yea that pretty obvious. I am just concerned that I paid $700 and they couldn't get it right the first time.

like Armen said just take it back to the shop to correct whatever is causing the problems before you start STRESSING yourself over the weekend.
was it just springs that were replaced?

That's real shitty Josh, sorry to hear. I don't know enough (anything) about the 17's to offer any suggestions. A real shame. You were sitting beside the best mechanic around at wing night. Hopefully he might have some ideas.
And yeah, that's steep for just labour on a spring install.

Let's see. I called 2 different shops, one in Newmarket and one in Barrie. They both quoted me around $630-$650 before tax. I called big Barrie Ford and they quoted me $950 before tax. Looks like I got screwed...

I forgot to add, that included an alignment which they said cost $150.

Yes they did. I also installed Maximum Motorsport camber plates.

My guess would be that they didn't transfer the insulators that were on the spring over and they didn't tighten the sway bar end links properly. That would be my guesstimate :D
SR Performance springs don't sit properly in the rear lower spring pockets is one noise. Other, control arm pivot bolts that aren't suppose to be touched for install were not re-tightened with it sitting at ride height.

I would just like to thank Rick and Ross for sorting me out. I made the mistake of bringing my car to a fly by night mechanic although they have done decent work in the past , they had no clue how to take apart the suspension on the new mustangs. Rick and Ross put everything back together with some better springs and now the car drives amazing, and I got the exact look I was going for , very pleased thanks guys!

Seeing a ton of S550 Mustangs lowered lately. Not sure of what setup they are using but sure as hell looks good.

Me too Laurence. but I spoke to one guy and he told me he wasn't lowered at all, but (I forget what size rim/tire he told me he was running)
I think s550 didn't have that real 4x4 wheel gap as previous gens did. I'm just wondering because every s550 iI see area looks lowered lol.

I thought so too at first but asked a few of the guys around and found out they all were lowered on Eibach or H&R springs. It looked good.

Yea, I got an alignment , seems to be driving great. Obviously it's a bit under damped with the stock shocks and struts but I can live with it. Looks awesome too.
It looks killer. STill feel big difference in ride vs original lowering springs?

Yea, not a huge difference though. It just runs a bit harder on the bumps that's about it. It handles great.
