Looking at getting a set of snows for my new truck. My favourite snow tires General Altimax Arctics are sadly discontinued. Too many to choose from! Going with a set of 17"x7.5" steelies and was thinking of 275 or 285/70/17. Opinions please.

I went with cooper discoverer AT/W all weather tires and they are phenomenal. Honestly better than any dedicated snow tire I have ever used.

The best ice and snow tire I've ever used are the brimstone blizack. But they are pricey

What truck? Think 275/70 and 285/70 is larger than stock on an f150, I have 265/70/17's for mine...I could be wrong though.

I have 285/65/20 BFG All Terrains on my 2016 right now but want dedicated winters on 17 steelies.

Dealer is recommending Toyo Open Country WLT1's but they have mixed reviews for icey conditions. Not sure if Blizzaks come in an LT.

Either of the above would tie for first followed closely by the Coopers.

I have Blizzak DM-V1 on my Tundra. Outstanding winter tire, two seasons, great wear and stability, even towing a double enclosed sled trailer with another sled in the bed.

No levelling kit. Just stock height.

If Hankook makes an LT version of the I-Pikes, they would get my vote.

Another vote for the iPikes although Coopers were very good on my pickup also

I ran coopers on my f150, great tire.

I rated the Coopers high cause I really liked them as well, just that the Hercules are just that much better is all.

FJ has Cooper Discoverer STT. Too nubby to be effective on ice but good on anything else lol. Full time AWD helps with that as well.

The Hercules is an excellent tire but not available in the size I want. I have them on my work vans.

Ended up ordering Hankook I Pike RW11 LT tires in 275/65/17. I may get them studded but still debating. Winter driving gets rather scarey up here at times.

Hey Don, if you're not committed to those, why not go a bit narrower for the winter? Usually performs better in the snow, and will also save you some $$. 245/75R16 is a very common size that would match the diameter of what you have now.

cheers

It's too bad that Kal Tire has the exclusive on those for the region ...

Thanks for the suggestion Ed, but I've already got the tires.
Got a great deal on them and there was no price difference between the 245 and the 265. I decided to stick with the OEM 265 size for a couple of reasons: we don't get a lot of snow here, and the i*Pike is more of an ice-tire. I wanted the same contact patch area as i do on the dry. If I'm going to be "cutting" through 10" of snow i'll slow down and toss it in 4-wheel drive. (i'm secretly hoping we get lots of snow this year so I can justify getting 4x4, LOL)

I say this every year, nothing beats Nokians
I had the Hakka's on my 2WD B3000 (Ranger). They were fantastic during the first 3 years. By year 4 I found the rubber had gotten a bit harder and they didn't grip as good as they used to. Still a great tire tho. Never got stuck, and never needed any weight in the rear of the truck.

I like them.. They do good in the thick stuff but only ok on the ice. They wear down pretty quick if your using them all year like me.

Overall a good tire its just too bad they wear down so quick.. Which is expected with a A/T tire I guess. Coopers were my next choice but I saved a nice chunk buying from crappy tire on sale.

May I suggest Arctic Claw made by Continental reasonably priced and great grip in the winter.
