View Full Version : More fee increases brought to you by the Ontario Liberals.
Ontario residents will be paying more for new driver's licences, licence renewals and licence plate renewal stickers starting Thursday.
The Ontario transportation ministry said in a news release that the fee hikes are necessary to help maintain roads, bridges and highways across the province.
The cost of an original driver's licence and of renewing a driver's licence, including the driver licensing fee as part of the enhanced driver's licence, will increase from $81.50 to $90.
The cost for renewing a licence plate in southern Ontario will increase from $108 to $120. The cost of renewing a licence plate in northern Ontario wil rise from $54 to $60.
"Updated fees help maintain the province's transportation infrastructure and provide resources to help keep Ontario's roads safe," the ministry said.

Oh yes they have.
Truth.
Last years increases.
Get ready to pay more for driver’s licences, licence renewals, replacements and commercial permits as of September 1st.
The Government of Ontario says that increases are necessary to cover the rising costs of maintaining provincial roads, bridges and highways, enhance cost recovery for the delivery of driver, and vehicle licensing services.
The cost of new driver’s licences, along with licence renewals goes up from from $80 to $81.50.
Renewing a licence plate validation sticker will jump from $98 per year to $108 per year. The two-year sticker price will climb from $196 to $216.
Commercial vehicle validation (3,000 kg and less), for both personal use and commercial use will also jump from $98 to $108.

I either need to put my profession to work.....for the greater good.....or sell off all my vehicles and buy a horse.
Have I mentioned..............

Meanwhile, Go Transit fares increased a mear 5%. Guess it's more politically correct to fuck over vehicle drivers vs increase fees for a system we already subsidize.

You might have to settle for a donkey. Horses are expensive, especially the fast ones. Get an Ostrich! That would be cool!

Liberals will not stop until they have 100% of our wages and we are totally enslaved to there gigantic corrupt bureaucracy.
public transit is not the answer for everyone period. Here outside of the centre of the universe (GTA) in rural Ontario public transit just simply does not make sense. The $40-60 per week I spend in fuel commuting and whatever other driving I do every week is not the issue, but they are sure going to make sure I PAY.
IF public transit is subsidize by tax payers then as a person subsidizing something I have never used and probably will never use I DEMAND they increase fees to cover the costs....its only logic.

I am afraid Patrick Brown is going flame out like Hudak and Tory, on a BS platform pledge and she will get another mandate.
More hikes built in from here on forward. We all know their idea of adjusted for inflation will have nothing to do with the actual inflation rate but will instead be yet another double digit increase. Have I mentioned, DON'T FORGET COME ELECTION TIME, SEND THESE IDIOTS PACKING ONCE AND FOR ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The elimination of the $30 Drive Clean fee grabbed the headlines from Thursday's Ontario budget, but the fiscal plan also contained increases in virtually every other government service fee, including vehicle registration.
Starting next year, fees for driver and vehicle licensing, camping in provincial parks, fishing and hunting licences, liquor licences, event permits and court applications will be adjusted every year to keep up with inflation.
The government says automatic indexation will protect the sustainability and quality of the services, and ensure that the costs of providing them are borne by those who use and benefit from them.

While I am not in favour of the increases, the price for sticker renewals stayed the same $74.00 for 15 years.
So after totally screwing us on hydro, then loosing a byelection, now our premier is "signalling" relief is on the way. Nice how there is always a new reason why rates have gone up so much / so fast. Kinda like the OPP's reports on the new number one "whats killing us on Ontario hwys".
Premier Kathleen Wynne is signalling that some kind of relief is coming for electricity ratepayers zapped by soaring hydro bills this hot summer.

Wynne told reporters Wednesday she was getting that message from homeowners and tenants across the province even before the governing Liberals lost Thursday's Scarborough-Rouge River byelection.
"We heard concerns at the doors in Scarborough-Rouge River, and, quite frankly, those concerns are things that we now have to take to heart and we have to use them to inform our actions going forward," she said, referring to the victory by Progressive Conservative Raymond Cho.
"One of the things that we heard most consistently was hydro rates. I heard about electricity rates in the north. It is not something that is isolated in one riding in Toronto. This is a concern across the province. I recognize that."
Wynne said she has instructed Energy Minister Glenn Thibeault, who was appointed in June, to examine "ways to help people bear the costs in their day-to-day lives."
"It's an urgent issue for the minister of energy," the premier said, admitting there has been "a cost associated with" government investments in electricity infrastructure that are being borne by ratepayers.
"We have had to make upgrades. We had to make the investments that we made to have a reliable energy system, electricity system in this province," she said.
"We understand that we need to take that into account and come up with increasing or further mitigations. We haven't done enough ... there's more that we have to do," said Wynne, who did not elaborate on the details.
Beyond rebates to consumers paid from the provincial treasury, it is unclear what Queen's Park can do to offset bills that will be even larger than expected due to the reliance on air-conditioners during a scorching summer.
The independent Ontario Energy Board sets electricity rates, not the government, and the Liberals maintain that the sale of most of Hydro One to fund transportation infrastructure won't affect bills.
In fact, the government has argued a privatized transmission utility might be a more efficient company that could pass on savings to consumers, although both the Tories and the New Democrats strongly dispute that.
The Liberals point out that Thibeault, a former NDP MP and Sudbury United Way official, is well-versed on the concerns of northerners and low-income Ontarians.
But the rookie cabinet minister will have his work cut out for him devising some kind of "mitigation" scheme to help the vast swath of ratepayers alarmed by the size of their bills.
The means-tested Ontario Electricity Support Program (https://ontarioelectricitysupport.ca/FAQ) already provides monthly credits ranging from $30 to $75 depending upon location and the number of people in the home.
Families with after-tax household incomes of $52,000 or less can apply for the OESP.
Under former premier Dalton McGuinty, the Liberals in 2010 instituted the Ontario Clean Energy Benefit, a 10 per cent discount on hydro bills to compensate for the cost of wind and solar power subsidies.
That costly five-year program, while politically successful because it helped McGuinty win the 2011 election, was criticized by conservationists because the more energy a consumer used the more he or she saved.

Even though I know electricity is still cheaper than making my own...there would be something very satisfying about going off grid. Just like cutting the cable was.
