CEL came on Friday. Reader says it's a code 0340 cam sensor. Everything I read says the sensor is probably fine but the alternator is about to puke.
Any suggestions for a replacement? Lots of noise on the web about how poor some of the replacements are, even OEM.
I have an email into K&P Electric as I hear he's very good.
Stephens 197 experienced the issue yesterday, Ross n I put an alt on it today, so far so good.
Gord is a good choice.
Ford clearly screwed up on the alt / reg circuit.
Suggest you do not attempt to drive the car as is (yes even if it's running ok).

What Rick said. I'll tell you all about it tomorrow at WNNOTC.

Thanks. I parked it right after it threw the code. Didn't want to add a tow to the repair bill. Besides I know these computers are fussy about voltage levels. Some have reported a wonky alternator caused all kinds of drivability issues long before it failed completely. Don't need a grumpy 3V on my hands.
Gord emailed me and suggested I bring mine in for testing / rebuild.
It'll likely check out as a diode issue back feeding the ECM. Like I said, ridiculous circuit that never should have been.

So far so good with Ol Paint after the Dr. changed the alt. I'll tell you I was a lot worried Sunday night when I limped the car home.

I'm having my original rebuilt by an auto electric specialist who's also into performance cars. I'm hoping that's the ticket. My brother in law had his alt go bad and had a module put on it for $100 rather than buying new or a rebuilt unit. Trouble free for 2 years since.

Lol I think I was on 6th rebuild in a year , put an oem in & sold the car out of fear and buddy is still on the oem one .
Stephen's spit out the rblt alt #1 within a days driving. Second alt charged like a rock star but we had a cam sensor code. Swapped sensors side to side, code followed. Replaced both sensors, no code and no alt issues.

Is it possible one of the bad alternators wrecked the cam sensor?
Possible but just as likely the sensor may have taken the alt out. Poorly designed circuit and controller. His engine went berserk when the first alt failed, so much so you'd have thought it had blown up.

Finally got around to replacing the alternator yesterday. All codes are gone and car seems in fine form.
Just wanted to put a plug in for K&P Auto in Newmarket. Gord rebuilt my original just like new and did so in a jiffy. Dropped it off at 9:00 and got the call that it was ready to go by 2:00. Fast friendly service all for less than I expected.
Gord is good people + sells quality products, highly recommend him as well.
