Nice to see this sub-forum created. I picked up my first Mustang, grabbed Corey's (Darkhorse) Cobra last fall. Sorry Corey, yes I've been pulling her apart :( but ever so carefully!
In all my reading of various forums, the thing that surprises me (maybe I shouldn't be) is the lack of ICE when it comes to Mustang's. I totally get that power mods are huge with these cars, but i'm still surprised there isn't much more info out there.
So anyways, i'm dropping a Pioneer AVH-8400BH, Infinity Kappa 60.9CS in front and back and powering with older 90's Phoenix Gold XS-4300 and an XS-2300 for some sort of sub setup.
Interested to see what others have done, as i'm not completely committed as yet. Just have the speakers dropped in and probably will have a shop finish it up for me because I don't want to get into something I don't want to finish. Rather be driving her, then f'ing around on her.

Mine came with an alpine 9800 series single DIN deck, an Alpine Mono Amp and Dual Alpine 10" type subs in a box that took up the whole trunk.
Thats all been pulled out.
I now have an Alpine WX404 - all ipod, no CDs

I gutted some stock tweeter pods (my car was a non mach 460 car) and put in lightning audio Components in the doors and modded the lightning tweeters to hide inside the stock pods.
I ditched the dual 10s and put a single 12" Elemental Design in a custom box molded from a mach 1000 box

before I had it all cleaned up.
The rears I left stock and powered by the deck, the fronts on are the front channels of a 4 channel amp and the Sub is powered by the rear channels of the amp bridged together. The amp is a Profile Baja 1000 watt.
Its a decent budget oriented system that does what I need it to do while still giving me trunk space and the ability to expand (bluetooth down the road). I have the brake safety sequence disabled so all functions are possible on the deck even when the car is motion. Not to watch movies and drive but for simplicity of use.
mine's a coupe
alpine deck in the dash....all int speakers are kicker

Currently running a clarion head with Audison lrx 1.1k to dual 12's in a prefab box, Audison lrx 2.4 to Hertz 5 1/4 comp in the door and an Audison sr260 driving hertz 5x7's and stock Mach tweeters
Install looks like a war zone (knocked off in driveway at -20 ) so no pics lol
Happy with sq but install will need to b revamped once weather and time permits.
Also applied sound dampening to trunk, floor, and doors

WTF, install looks great!
Future plan for mine, rear seat delete with subs built into the former seat buckets, head unit with Nav etc and components as Steve suggests. Not in the cards this year but coming soooooon.

dbovine ..... like the sub in the corner, that's what i'd like to try and do, need to keep SOME room for clubs in the trunk, I know with a vert i might be dreaming.
WTF ..... trunk looks very clean! Did you do it yourself or have someone do it?
12vguy..... nice gear you have in there! What sound dampening did you use? Agree with you, installs at anything below freezing is NO fun..... irritates the hell out of me. I was doing things in this car in my garage this winter, and it's insulated, but still a bit too cold for my liking. Things snap to easily in the cold, plus I don't have the luxury of a ton of room around me. Weather forecast is looking good.

I've been using ballistic sound dampening from Metra. Good results and pricing. Master pack is 38 sq ft and will usually do trunk, doors, and some floor

Does the factory deck in my 04 cobra have a pre out for a sub? Not looking to a big audio install just want a amp and a sub for some more bass?

no but you should be able to wire one easily enough

Most amps these days accept high level inputs so no issue connecting with out pre-outs from the deck.
Many also offer remote gain control as well

That's the Mach 1000, but there was also the Mach 460, which doesn't have all that. Still runs amps though. My Cobra Vert has the 460, and i'm starting from scratch.

here s my modest budget system in my 02gt vert. everything is alpine, bought everything used, and installed myself with proper wiring practice, proper harnesses, and no cutting, splicing, or drilling. except for switch panel which can be replaced.

switches for brake, park brake, sub amp, rear camera, and audio video aux in. you can watch dvds, turn on or off sub amp, and turn on rear camera when driving. you can also plug in an external audio video source (ipod, vcam, ps4, etc). still using all stock mach460 hardware (sounds ok for now. could be way better with aftermarket components)
trunk is simple and clean with homemade box sitting in spare tire area with no drilling. 2 10 inch subs and a 1000w mono amp wired at 2 ohms.
