I've had the pleasure off filling the rear diff with oil several times now, and each time it is a royal pain in the ass.
There has got to be a better way to do it than what I am doing. Maybe I should just get a diff cover with a fill and drain plug.
Please share your tips and tricks and/or special tools.

Or if you don't want to do either of those, just take the rear end out to fill it, much easier access :sarcasm:

the hardest part is getting the stupid stock drain plug out. otherwise i just attach some clear hose to the filler spout of the diff fluid and squeeze away.

bring the fill hose out the side of the fender...put a funnel in it...
tape the filler hose to the side of the fender
easy & not too messy...but it takes a while

^^^I like the IV solution, I will try that next time.

^^^ I use a longer clear hose with a funnel but I attch it to a stepladder. Keeps it away from the car and I get more volume in the hose between pours.

The oil suction system is terrible wont draw up the heavy gear oils Hand pump is what I use. Less mess works on those thick rear gears oils. I preheat the oil to help things flow

^Probably just takes the cap off to fill the suction gun......I don't think he's sucking the old fluid out, that's a waste of time since you never get all the junk at the bottom of the housing.
I used to use the fluids that come with the nipple as a cap, run a long piece of 3/8" hose into the diff and hold the bottom above the driveshaft.

Will have to check that out and see it clears my pan-hard bar.
Thanks for the link!
Would definitely clear on the truck ;)
Latest episode was filling the diff in the truck yesterday morning after replacing the axle seals this weekend. I found the squeeze bottle I usually use, but couldn't find the piece of tubing that goes with it. So ended up dumping the friction modifier in, then using that tiny little (100mL) bottle to transfer the gear oil into the diff. Took 20+ refills with that little bottle LOL.
