I break mine in on the way to the track

had a neibour that built engines actually built the one in my old 4 eye, said after the build they would fire them up,let them idle for 5 minutes a few little burps on the throttle and then hammer it like coptzr said...either it work or it don't!!

when they teardown an indy car engine back in the paddock and rebuild it right there on the spot...there's no "okay now go slow at the start of the race to break it in ya hear?" it's "okay not get that shit back on the track and run a better lap time bitch!!"

just saying :D

So many different opinions & methods out there. Even with what type of oil to use or not to use. I am considering using some type of breaking in oil, having a startup tune installed. Starting it up and letting it get up to operating temp. Inspecting for leaks. Running the motor under load at various RPM and not redlining it for at least the first 500. Drop the oil, after which getting a dyno tune and spraying the F out of it with nitrous lol.

let me know when your going to hit the dyno. I wouldnt mind having a peek.

Break it in like you plan to drive. You can't teach a kid to walk and then expect it to know how to run.

I've seen that before so when I got my daughter's new Chev Cruze I had it a couple of days before she got it for her birthday. I drove it hard with many abrupt decels. I mean to the floor. It now has 100,000 K and purrs, no oil usage between changes. Changes done when computer said so. I didn't follow what he said completely but I was aggressive. I remember when I lived in Oshawa hearing the guys driving cars off the line to the shipping yards on wentworth. They pounded those cars. Were they doing everyone a favour?

This is a very difficult topic for me to reason with. Been doing it the easy/gentle method since I started working on internal combustion engines (cars/sleds/PWCs).

I think the next mill is gonna get flogged right after the first warm-up, Base Idle and oil/filter change.

It's only a 302.

Build some motors in my time. Have to say break in the cam (if needed) then drive it like you stole it..
