One of the trunk lid torsion spring rods on my fathers 1997 Honda Accord SE broke-left side.

This part is discontinued and there is nothing available on ebay or anywhere else online.

Can this be welded or is that a waste of time,eg,weaken the metal and break again?
It's probably spring steel.

Using a old broom handle cut to size to hold the trunk lid up now.

Have you tried the auto wreckers? https://car-part.com/

100% spring steel. They are a loaded weapon. If you find a car with good ones, be extremely careful removing them.

I looked at the standard auto wreckers web site, they are big and show only one 1997 Accord 4 door in their you pick it lot.

No idea how much it's been stripped.
Only torsion rods for 96-97 model years fit from what I've seen.

I thought he just sells/deals with Mustang parts?

Sorry, missed Honda Accord.
Facebook Marketplace or similar for a car being parted out.

Any chance of MacGiver'ing it to have a strut if you have no luck?

It’s the long, thin torsion bars? This is tough. Lots of ones available for the next Gen accord but not 96-97. Standard auto wreckers in Scarborough might be worth it if they say the have the car. They’re usually fairly well organized in the u-pick lot, sorted by import, domestic and a small section of old models. Some forums say you can use vice grips to install, maybe bring some to the yard, and be careful, wear safety glasses!

It would suck driving to Standard only to find they have been removed or the one we need is broken, lol.

I got a 130amp 3g alternator for my Mustang at Standard years ago.
Got real lucky that time.
It came out of a 96 Taurus and was a fresh rebuild that looked brand new.
Still working fine to this day.

Father say's for the amount of use the trunk gets he's ok with using the broom handle prop for now.
