Need some help on selecting new shoes for my Shelby. Car is 11 years old now and need to change the OEM tires.
Looking for very good traction in straight line and cornering. Prefer to stay with the same size as OEM, maybe a little wider. Not really concerned as much with “wear rate” as I only put a couple thousand klms per year.
Thoughts????

If you want it to hook much at all in a straight line with that power output, you’re going to need drag radials. ZR Rick is trying a pair of the Nitto 555 R2 on his 05 that makes big power, not sure if he has them on the car yet. Tread pattern and look is similar to the 555 G2 street tires which you could use for the front.
Assuming that your car has the 265/40R19 front and 285/35R20, you can get the correct size for the front or go a bit larger with 275/35 or 285/35R19 which they also offer. For the drag radials they have either one size smaller or one size bigger than your OEM tires. The 295 would be pinched a bit on the 9.5” wheels, but Nitos tend to be a bit small for a given size anyway. Previous owner of my car had 295/35 installed on the factory wheels, and they don’t look jammed on.

Can’t go wrong with a Michelin PS4S. Excellent all around tire in both wet and dry but expensive.
For the money, Firestone Indy 500 tires have impressed me greatly in both wet and dry. Mine have seen racetrack lapping days and performed very well.
Drag radial (if that’s your thing), Nitto 555R2 as mentioned above or possibly Mickey Thompson ET street (rear only).
My experience with Nitto has been mixed, had 555 G2 and they were pretty decent. Had Invos, started ok and degraded quickly to the point where I felt they were not safe. I wouldn’t recommend those even at a deep discount. Garbage tire.
Your answer will really depend on your intended use and/or budget.

I have the Indy 500 on mine and seem to be ok. Price is great. I paid just over $1300 installed.
285 in rear and 255 in front.

Another vote for the 4S!
No miles on the Nitto DR's yet so can't comment. I did however have 4s on the 550, pretty amazing tire.

I have Continental Extremecontact Sports on my car, no complaints and seem to hook up well. Would def consider them again.

The latest version of the Continentals, ExtremeContact Sport 02, test up favourably against the Michelin Pilot 4 S and in many sizes can be $60 to $100 less per tire. I have a set of them ready to go on my 12 GT500, squaring up the size to 285/35R19 all around on some aftermarket wheels.
It comes down to what you want to prioritize, all around performance and decent street manners, or emphasis on straight line traction.

Thanks to all for the input…
Decided on the PS4S….very happy with them. Night and day to the stock ones. I can now launch and not get the feeling I’m riding my “Big Wheel” plastic tires from 40 years ago…weeeeeeeeeee..

Let’s make an adult version for 1499.00 and it will sell like hotcakes.

I have had the Indy 500's on the car for 4 months and 5000 km now. Rain, dry, heat, cool, track day. Completely satisfied. Best bang for the money.
I went from the stock 235/55/18's all around to 255/40/19 front, 285/35/19 rear on 9.5"x 19" wheels. A huge difference in looks, feel, sound, and handling.
