I wonder how long until we see videos of 2024 mustangs being “drifted” into an insurance write off. Seems like an irresponsible move on Ford’s part to include this on the new models, especially in this litigious society we live in.

Drift mode dates back to the Focus RS, and is present on loads of other performance cars like AMGs and the like. The owners manual and all marketing always includes the "closed circuit, off road use" disclaimers and to me including such a feature is no more legally unwise than handing the keys to a modern 600-700-800+ HP performance car to anyone with a pulse and enough credit to clear payments.

Personally I love it. Vaughn Gitten Jr (drift driver) was talking about how he was involved in the creation and tuning of this feature on the TST podcast. His stance on what led to the creation of RTR in wanting to make the Mustang appeal to younger audience who grew up coveting S-chassis Nissans or other RWD imports was cool to hear and gain perspective. Anything that keeps the appeal of the Mustang moving forward and not going the way of the Camaro is fine with me. Seeing the RTR guys in Formula D is honestly real great for the brand and the hobby as a whole.
