Since there hasn't been one started on here, and I just came across a collection that is pretty neat, I figured I would start the thread. Post what you have, what you find, or what you dream of! Everything is welcome!
This is a collection of one person who has a taste for very unique watches. It's best if you surf the album, rather than me post the pictures and descriptions here. Enjoy!

I picked up a Zenith Pilot earlier this year - love it on the wrist, and have been on the fence about getting the Baume & Mercier Flyback Chronograph next - love the vintage look (based on a B&M flyback from long ago) but flip flipping on whether it's too busy on the face, and also torn about whether black or white face.

^I really like that one. Just checked their site and I like a lot of their designs. But I'd have to sell a couple I don't wear to justify spending that money on a watch.
been a while since I added a piece to the watch box
50th b-day coming up and the wife asked me what I wanted
told her that if she really loved me she'd get me an Omega Seamaster 44mm Chronograph.....but I'd be more than happy with a couple new pairs of socks
she gave up the surprise today cause she had to order it (not in stock and coming from Switzerland) and she was shitting a brick that she might order the wrong piece
750575067507
going into rotation with 4 other pieces (Oris Artelier, Tag Monaco McQueen, Tag 2000 Series, Omega Speedmaster Date)....all chronographs...love the busy pieces
unlike the cars.....I wear these things everyday no matter what the forecast is
only one slot left in the fancy watch box now....but it'll be a while before it's filled

Some nice pieces for sure. I've never owned a watch. My phone has a clock built in.
Would probably look good with a suit but then I don't have a suit.
I want a nice watch I'm just not sure it would see any use at all. Infact I can't remember the last time I even had my wedding ring on. Lol
Still want one though.
got the call yesterday from the jewelry store that a nice box showed up from Switzerland
the big white box is pretty tame
7709
but the box inside is pretty spectacular
7710
giddy up
7711
another nice mechanical chunk into the rotation
7712
this is a real nice piece....it's getting large at 44mm and it's a thick bastard....band is super comfortable and the lume is incredible
slightly thicker than my Oris Artelier but same diameter and seems to be a tad lighter...wears real nice
the yellow markings sorta change depending on the angle and the way the light hits it....very subtle at some angles and seriously pops from other angles
if I ever get thrown off a cruise ship and drown....this thing will keep on ticking at 1000ft
most water it will ever see with me is if I'm walking in the rain

That's pretty cool and I would have thought it would have been larger than 44mm based on the pics. The Zenith I picked up is 45mm which is the top end of what I could wear but it doesn't feel over-sized on the wrist (even though I don't have a large wrist).

Have lurked on here recently, have never really been into watches beyond their sentimental value, in part because I know exactly where this would/could/will lead to, lol. Here is what I got at this stage, nothing fancy:
http://i1349.photobucket.com/albums/p742/tmslighting/2017%20Watches/IMG_1466%201_zps0cbknddv.jpg (http://s1349.photobucket.com/user/tmslighting/media/2017%20Watches/IMG_1466%201_zps0cbknddv.jpg.html)
My dad gave me a Seiko Quartz Alarm for my 18th birthday in 1982. Haven't worn it since I bought a Tissot PR100 in '97 (before Swatch merger) while honeymooning in Antigua. Had a few in between that I never wore. Still looking for my 1970s era Timex metal case watch I wore as a teen, it's somewhere in the house, possibly buried among Fox parts. :)
Pulled the Seiko from the safety deposit box, cleaned and changed the battery, and voila - it worked immediately. Gave it to my boy for his 18th birthday yesterday; he immediately put it on...hoping he really loves it and understands and respects its importance.
http://i1349.photobucket.com/albums/p742/tmslighting/2017%20Watches/IMG_1471_zpshafrv0jr.jpg (http://s1349.photobucket.com/user/tmslighting/media/2017%20Watches/IMG_1471_zpshafrv0jr.jpg.html)
http://i1349.photobucket.com/albums/p742/tmslighting/2017%20Watches/IMG_1456_zps6bc8edwd.jpg (http://s1349.photobucket.com/user/tmslighting/media/2017%20Watches/IMG_1456_zps6bc8edwd.jpg.html)
A good friend who collects watches has been schooling moi a little: EBAY is a good resource, buy from within Canada due to the weak CAD Peso; Hamiltons and Accutrons can represent great value, ETA Valjoux 7750 movement is the one to go for, and the all important - what do I like.
Being equipped with small wrists (6.75"), the Tissot PR100 is 37 mm body/bezel, weighs 88.2 g; something a little larger and different is in my future, but not really likin the gangster 42mm + lumps, even if they look cool. Tried on JT's Omega Seamaster 42 mm yesterday, and it's too big for this manchild, IMO.
Also found my uncle's Aureole 14k rosish gold (not plated) pocket watch from the 60s
http://i1349.photobucket.com/albums/p742/tmslighting/2017%20Watches/IMG_1461_zps1n7j0qbg.jpg (http://s1349.photobucket.com/user/tmslighting/media/2017%20Watches/IMG_1461_zps1n7j0qbg.jpg.html)
and my mom's 18k (?) gold 1964 Tissot she received for my birth when we lived in Switzerland in the 60's:
http://i1349.photobucket.com/albums/p742/tmslighting/2017%20Watches/IMG_1459_zpslutbxbus.jpg (http://s1349.photobucket.com/user/tmslighting/media/2017%20Watches/IMG_1459_zpslutbxbus.jpg.html)
http://i1349.photobucket.com/albums/p742/tmslighting/2017%20Watches/IMG_1460_zpsdicbk5qo.jpg (http://s1349.photobucket.com/user/tmslighting/media/2017%20Watches/IMG_1460_zpsdicbk5qo.jpg.html)
Both work, both windups. Also found 4 solid gold coins from my grandparents - 3 Austrian Kaiser coins, one Swiss Helvetica. Found Opa (grandpappy)'s WWI bravery medal, which will be framed forthwith.
http://i1349.photobucket.com/albums/p742/tmslighting/2017%20Watches/IMG_1445_zpsdtpwykp6.jpg (http://s1349.photobucket.com/user/tmslighting/media/2017%20Watches/IMG_1445_zpsdtpwykp6.jpg.html)
Any suggestions on who could inspect and give me a lowdown on what these 2 vintage gold timepieces and coins are worth, and the relevant specs etc ?
Would like to trade / sell the two watches and the coins and get a decent automatic timepiece (probably a Tissot again, since that seems to be a family choice).
Something to wear instead of having these collect dust in the bankvault. Got mom's permission to sell them this morning; she laughed and asked why I hadn't already; guess I'm sentiMENTAL.
Thx for any comments and help guys!
^^^^for the time pieces....sign up to the watchuseek forums
http://forums.watchuseek.com/forum.php
they'll have a forum in there where you'll likely get some quality feedback on those two pieces...the guys that hang out there know their stuff
make sure to lurk the for sale forums....there's some nice stuff in there
got my Monaco McQueen via that sight from a seller in Vermont when our dollar was on par with the USD.....and based on the prices I'm seeing now....I could probably get double what I paid for it....about 7 or 8 years ago
the watch market is interesting....the price of new Omegas have skyrocketted over the past 9ish years....so much now that when I see what people are selling used Speedmaster Dates for....it's actually more than I paid brand new 9 years ago
it's nuts.....probably 6 years ago the wife and I were at Birks in Fairview Mall just kicking tires...tried on a Planet Ocean 45mm Chrono (Black with Orange for those who know the piece)...price back then was $6500.....price now for the current and comparable PO is over $10,000
so for any of you stretching to justify the full retard nature of spending large on a new timepiece....it ain't gonna get cheaper as the years go by

Thx Tim; I figured you would chime in - very helpful. Found some details on whatchuseek, even how to open the back of the pocket watch without destroying it. Inscription is 1916, not sure who's initials, perhaps my uncle's dad or grandfather ( uncle was married to my moms sister, he had no living relatives when he passed in 1980). It looks like the movement is all gold and German made, it differs from the Swiss mechanisms according to the experts.
http://i1349.photobucket.com/albums/p742/tmslighting/2017%20Watches/mechanism_zpsfo5bb7ag.jpg (http://s1349.photobucket.com/user/tmslighting/media/2017%20Watches/mechanism_zpsfo5bb7ag.jpg.html)
Appears the pocket and the Tissot would each sell for app $ 1k US, I'm sure the jeweler will tell me to cut that number in half or more.
Would really like to trade them both for something nice that will stay in the family permanently. An Omega Speedmaster Racing or Professional Moon Walk would be my first choices, looks like $2500-$ 3500 to start. I doubt the extra bread is available unless I stop building the Fox, but we shall see.
^^^ I knew the guys on that site would help.....very cool
If I were going for one single piece that would hold it's value best and inevitably be a family heirloom....it would be a traditional manual-wind Speedy Pro Moon Watch.....aside from slight tweaks on the calibre of the movement....it's basically been the exact same watch for like 60 years
https://www.omegawatches.com/watches/speedmaster/moonwatch/professional-chronograph-42-mm/31130423001005/
at $6k Cdn new...if you can haul in $2k USD for those two pieces....I think you're in the price range of getting a nice previously loved version
I don't own a Speedy Pro.....yet.....but when I see a nice one on a black perforated strap with the deployant clasp in the for sale forums.....my trigger finger gets real itchy

Yeah, as Tim said the forums like WUS and Timezone may work - there are lots of threads about newer watches so I think the expertise leans to nerwer but there are some threads on vintage, and there are collectors/aficionados on the sites. WUS is more user friendly to use. There's also Chrono24 for watch listings - I think private sellers can list on there too.
The Omega Speedys are nice watches and I waffle between getting one or not...but so far have leaned to a little more niche/rare brands. They're pretty common so that's good and bad but they seem to hold value decently since they have broader market appeal (they spend a lot on consumer marketing) versus a niche/specialized high end brand. There's Rolex's junior brand as well, Tudor, but I'm not sure if the Speedy or Tudor would hold value better. You can also look at US based grey market (genuine) retailers to save a few dollars on a new watch (versus pre-owned).
^^^^ one thing for sure when you buy a quality piece...there is a market to sell it if/when you do...and you'll still get a half decent buck for it years after you bought it
for whatever reason my wife seems to like the watches Gucci puts out...probably bought her 8 or 9 of them over the past 29 years
pretty sure they're worth next to nothing after the fact.....$40 quartz movement...non-precious metals, styles that get dated etc
she actually nailed me for one when we went to pick up my Seamaster Chrono in January.....I wasn't about to say no considering what I was putting on my wrist
but....we've probably spent around $7000 on all those Gucci pieces.....and I'd be surprised if the lot of them were worth like a few hundred at best now
if we dropped that $7k on something like an Omega Ladies Seamaster Auto.....it would still be worth thousands today
and the Quality manufacturers stand by their stuff....back in 2015 I broke the hidden clasp button on the bracelet of my Oris....and I bought it from a club member...so while I have the box and papers it's not like I bought it from a retailer.....but, I walked into the Oris dealer in the Royal Bank Centre downtown....he sent it out to Oris' head office in Montreal...and they apologised for that happening and fixed it for free...at this point it was probably a 6 year old piece out of warranty.....needless to say I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Oris when one turns my crank

Yeah, the fashion watches give you a recognizable name and look but there is nothing under the hood so there's no resale value to them. Only way to buy those is online and avoid crazy retail markups.

My wife was going through these cheap fashion watches many years back and they just wouldn't last (not related to battery) and wanted a "nice" watch that would last. I ended up getting her a Raymond Weil 2-tone and it's been going since then (about 12 years). They are an under-stated Swiss brand that is still independently owned versus multi-brand corporate (unfortunately their resale isn't as good as the better known prestige names). My only regret was buying her a quartz model versus mechanical....I didn't know any better back then.

I've heard some pros and cons regarding mechanical time pieces. Can you elaborate? My understanding was you really had to pick and chose a quality mechanical piece for it to be reliable.

I've heard some pros and cons regarding mechanical time pieces. Can you elaborate? My understanding was you really had to pick and chose a quality mechanical piece for it to be reliable.
A quartz is basically a circuit board of sort with a few moving parts but super accurate (which is the basic function of a watch of course) whereas a mechanical watch has many moving parts and like a car needs fluids to keep its heart beating and parts moving (and while accurate, not so much as a good quartz). Some are building for offroading and other cannot take that kind of abuse depending on the level of complications built into the watch. If you're looking for something more durable a tried and tested Rolex or Omega are quite versatile and high volume enough to have been put through all kinds of conditions. They also tend to use common engines so a lot of the bugs get worked out quickly. The maintenance intervals also tend to be longer as a result. When you get into higher end and niche luxury brands they are low volume, usually have more complications, in-house movements (so less real world testing), and maybe made from more precious, softer, metals. The maintenance windows tend to be shorter on these. You're probably likely to have more issues with these as you add more bells and whistles added in the parts composition. I know the Zenith I have comes with a warning not to use the watch during aggressive sports/activities that would expose the watch to shock whereas some of the heavy Rolex/Omega type watches may be more suitable for that type of activity. They are all "quality" pieces just built for different purposes so you choose a quality brand and model that suits what you will subject the watch through.

what model Monaco is it?
the McQueens are priced around $7800 new....but I think the standard Monaco is somewhere around $5500
and there's some limited pieces that retail north of $13,000
so $3300 depending on the model is a killer deal.....or not so much at all
I've got a McQueen (blue with the silver subdials)...and even though it's "only" 39mm...it wears large....feels like a 44mm on the wrist because of the square shape...just an fyi

It's a reduced, 39mm, auto, black dial and crown with calf leather strap (not Omega); it has nice patina, 1140 caliber movement (I know, not the best) and I love it. Now going on the hunt for a black sporty strap 18mm-->16mm (leather, ostrich, shark, stingray, silicone, etc) with the large center holes and hopefully a real Omega deployment clasp. Any assistance or direction/contacts would be appreciated.
Watch needs a back seal and does have a little corrosion inside, but functions perfectly. Anything older is going to have some issues, IMO and I didn't pay premium money. The trade in was what I was hoping for, so all is well. Omega wants to install a new movement in it, but that's pretty par for the course.

Already ordered a genuine Omega leather strap and bought a genuine Omega buckle. $ 58 shipped and $50 picked up respectively.
Bid on a 1960's vintage Omega rice bracelet yesterday, sold for $350, didn't make it. A standard metal Omega bracelet can be had used for about $200-250.
Will see where this all leads. Ordered a new seal for the rear of the Speedy, apparently the one on it is incorrect. Liking it even more now; very unassuming and the 39mm size is perfect on my wrist.
Looking for something else as well - what do you guys think around the $500 level used - Hamilton automatic?
with all the Speedmaster talk lately.....realized I've never taken pics of mine
it's 9 years old now....never been serviced....and I measured the accuracy against a digital clock for the entire month of March....in one month it lost 10 seconds....needless to say this watch is the reason I now have another Omega...and hopefully many more
this model is from the Racing series....and not the moon series...a tad smaller than the moon watch and an auto movement with the date window vs a manual wind on the moon watch
been on the bracelet since day 1.....it's a really solid piece that felt huge at first....it's 39mm....doesn't feel that big now compared to some of these monster dive watches....but it's a nice size and you know the thing is on your wrist

That's the thing with all the Speedy styles that got me confused in the beginning.........all the colours and styles......
Decided the classic black face and bezel were what I liked the most about them. Also a leather strap, since my Tissot is all metal.
Found out this week based on the case number that my Reduced is a 1988 model, the first year (officially called Speedmaster Automatic by Omega) and was delivered with a black leather strap; so exactly the watch I wanted.
Read on Watch Wiki that the owner of Tissot was on the board of Omega and convinced them to join forces in 1930's; so these two companies have been connected for a long time, even priro to the SWATCH inclusion.
Saw the Jason Statham flick Mechanic II Resurrection, he's sporting his dad's Speedmaster as well as a real serious Pro Sized dive watch (Oris maybe?) later on. Looks like I found a deploy, will pick it up tomorrow if it's decent.

all the colours and styles...yup....that's the problem with the watch collector hobby vs the car collector hobby....you want them all, and you have space for them
the car hobby is dictated by budget and space.....regardless of budget....you'll eventually run out of space
the watch hobby is only dictated by budget....even if you live in a 400 sq ft cubby hole...cause you could have millions of dollars sitting in a freakin drawer

learned 2 things today
1) Loblaws must pay well
2) my Speedy Date is 40mm....not 39mm
was grabbing some groceries at the Loblaws outside my subway station on the way home....and the young asian fellow (who I have socks older than) who was checking and bagging the loot was wearing a piece
so I asked him "what's that on your wrist?"....black face, black bezel, white hands, steel bracelet
he said "ummm....an Omega Speedmaster"
I said "thought so.......is that a reduced?"
he said "yup"
I said "so an automatic but no date?"
he said "yup"
so I flipped up the sleeve and said "good on ya....I'm wearing my Speedy Date today".....and he lines up his wrist with mine
good kid....Loblaws must pay pretty good
but I was thinking...when he lined them up...they weren't the same size
duh
https://www.omegawatches.com/watches/speedmaster/date-day-date/date-chronograph/32113000/
not sure when or where Omega tweaked things cause most Speedy Dates are 39mm, and they all say
Omega
Speedmaster
Automatic
in that order
but mine says
Omega
Speedmaster
Automatic
Chronometer
and it's 40mm
thinking the square Monaco at 39mm threw me off....with the square shape in comparison
anyhoo...when I retire from the rat-race....I might throw a resume at Loblaws to bag groceries....

Yup, they're a little pricey but the styles just don't do it for me - only one I'd consider is the Tonda which is probably the most pedestrian looking one. When you get into Bovet that's a whole different stratosphere.

alright
pulled the trigger on a couple of Hirsch Rally straps for my silver Speedy date
couldn't figure out which shade of brown would look best...so bought two....figured best way to tell is to line them both up to the actual watch and pick
the darker brown
http://www.hirschstraps.com/products/hirsch-rally-natural-leather-racing-watch-strap-in-brown
the golden brown
http://www.hirschstraps.com/products/hirsch-rally-natural-leather-racing-watch-strap-in-gold-brown
and after googling around for info on their deployants the best advice I saw said you have to try both to see which one suits you best
ok
so I bought both
the pusher
http://www.hirschstraps.com/collections/buckles-deployments/products/hirsch-pusher-clasp-silver
and the sport
http://www.hirschstraps.com/collections/buckles-deployments/products/hirsch-sport-deployment-clasp-silver
it's gonna be cool changing this piece up a bit after wearing it for 9 years with the bracelet

Cool...I surfed around the Hirsch site (they are Austrian - established 1765 or something like that!!) today but didnt like any of them. Ordered a Di Modell black leather Rallye GT strap (big holes) with white stitching made in Germany from a place in Seattle - $ 36 USD shipped to my pals place in Buffalo.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/18mm-Di-Modell-Avus-GT-Rallye-Rally-Mens-Black-Leather-German-Watch-Band-Strap-/331450485570?hash=item4d2bfd0b42:g:d4AAAOSwm8VUuDJ-
Been wearing the Speedy every day, hoping the new strap looks as good as in the pics - a little thicker and sportier than the Omega dressy black one that's on it. Will definitely flip the Omega deploy over as well.
Have managed NOT to buy another watch, and have resisted looking at all the ebay emails as well, lol.
props to the folks at Hirsch
ordered less than a week ago from their UK dealer...had it sent via Royal Mail
arrived at my office today
its nice stuff.....now I gotta choose

I may have to take a look at them also. I'd like a black strap for my Zenith but I'm not sure I can get the correct size from Zenith since they don't offer my watch with a black strap and the models that do are at least 3mm larger so may not work on mine.

1mm wider from what I've been sold/told from Hirsch is no problem to fit in the lugs for a strap (bracelet has to be exact obviously)....but anything wider than 1mm is looking for trouble cause it squeezes the strap too much
the straps I ordered are 20mm at the lugs and the piece is 19mm....they said no problem but sent me 19mm pins cause the pins have to be exact.....they gave me like 12 pins with the 2 straps...so good on them
I've now checked the straps against the watch and the 1mm diff should be no issue...it's leather and seems there's no squeeze at all...but 2 extra mm would definitely be an issue
decision made....dark brown with sport deployant....it's a no brainer...getting it swapped tomorrow
gonna completely change the piece...it's going from subtle-but-awesome-when-you-look-closer......to.....I-must-have-that
amazing how much swapping a bracelet for a proper strap can transform a watch
before it was subtle.....now it screams racing heritage
it lost some weight dropping the bracelet....the new strap is serious quality and the deployant works mint.....will definitely by Hirsch again
8701870287038704
made me think Steve McQueen might like this piece
8705
and yeah...the Omega is dead nuts accurate while the Tag runs fast

Nice....the large Rallye holes make it. That't the same look I'm after, but in black for now.
alright
I'm soooo sold on the strap vs the bracelet now....looks way better, loses half the weight....gonna change up a couple more
the Oris always seems to be left out on the love
8719
big blinged out bracelet wears awesome....but it needs a black rally strap like the brown one I put on the Silver Speedy....it will completely change the watch
https://www.hirschstraps.com/products/hirsch-rally-natural-leather-racing-watch-strap-in-black
with a polished sport deployant
https://www.hirschstraps.com/collections/buckles-deployments/products/hirsch-sport-deployment-clasp-silver
and I'm gonna change up the new chunk
8720
there's probably not a more perfect strap for this piece.....a Hirsch Robby with dead nuts on the colour
https://www.hirschstraps.com/products/hirsch-robby-sailcloth-effect-performance-watch-strap-in-black-yellow-09172940504
gonna go black on deployant
https://www.hirschstraps.com/collections/buckles-deployments/products/hirsch-sport-deployment-clasp-in-black
this is more fun than the cars....costs a fraction of the mods...and you only need the square footage of a kitchen drawer
ordered today and saw on the Hirsch site that the blue Rally strap is discontinued with limited stock
https://www.hirschstraps.com/products/hirsch-rally-leather-watch-strap-in-blue
figured I better get one and set it aside for my Monaco for when the current strap has seen better days....that straps looks like it was made for the blue McQueen

so how is this for customer service from the folks at Hirsch straps
I sent over the same pics posted here of the brown rally on my silver Speedy thanking them... and the owner responded enthusiastically...we had a couple of emails back and forth about the obsession
I let him know I ordered the additional 3 straps too....I noted that I was snagging the Blue Rally strap for my Monaco since it was being discontinued
the order just arrived.... he sent me 2 Blue Rally straps with a note inside thanking me for the biz and that the extra discontinued strap was a bonus

Rare to see but always happy when it happens.
lined up the black rally strap up on the Oris...and it's horny as hell....will take this piece from the least loved in the rotation to a favourite......plan to swap this weekend...or next if I'm swamped
lined up the blue rally strap up on the McQueen....oh my...yeah this is the strap....but too much life left in the current strap....must resist
lined up the yellow and black Robby strap against the Seamaster....and the strap is as much of a piece of art as the watch....thought I'd wear the big chunk on the bracelet for a few years....more like a few months

Love this watch ever since. I agree, very subtle watch and very beautiful.
with all the Speedmaster talk lately.....realized I've never taken pics of mine
it's 9 years old now....never been serviced....and I measured the accuracy against a digital clock for the entire month of March....in one month it lost 10 seconds....needless to say this watch is the reason I now have another Omega...and hopefully many more
this model is from the Racing series....and not the moon series...a tad smaller than the moon watch and an auto movement with the date window vs a manual wind on the moon watch
been on the bracelet since day 1.....it's a really solid piece that felt huge at first....it's 39mm....doesn't feel that big now compared to some of these monster dive watches....but it's a nice size and you know the thing is on your wrist
8402
when I started looking at straps this past weekend....got me thinking that this might look real nice on a brown rally strap with deployant.....I think I might have to do that
8403
one of the reasons I really liked this piece....it's pretty subtle...especially if you just take a quick glance at it
8404
but the closer you look...there is some awesome detail going on in the dial
8405
the Oris got some love today
got this piece off of a club member about 7 years ago....was barely worn...basically new in box with all paper work and hang tag....a deal I couldn't resist
8739
for those looking for a new quality automatic.....don't overlook Oris....this watch keeps time with my Omegas and better than my Monaco.....and their stuff can be had for like 60% of the price of a comparable Omega, Breitling, Tag etc
the big blinged out bracelet it was on wasn't doing it for me for a while now....and after I put my Silver Speedy Date on a brown rally strap....this thing was getting a black one
8740
8741
8742
8743
got the Robby Dive strap on the Seamaster this morning
by far the perfect strap for this piece

^^ Niiiiice!!!
yeah that strap looks like it was made specifically for that watch
strap is rubber on the back and sail cloth on the front....very light and way more flexible than leather
makes the watch feel like way less jewelry and way more purpose built tool
went with the black deployant vs the silver on this combo....I think it looks proper with the black
lovin all these new straps....they completely change the watches

damn Tim the Oris and Omega just came alive with those straps. Like a good set of wheels, changes everything. Must not....buy...more..watches...lol
yeah the Oris on the bracelet felt like a nice OK watch....now on the black rally strap it feels like a total bad-ass piece
the dive strap on the Seamaster....it's just ridiculous how awesome it looks
I've already tee-d up the next purchase.....the big question is when my wife will buy it for me...lol
https://www.breitling.com/en/models/superocean-heritage/superocean-heritage-ii-chronographe/my-breitling-made-to-measure/
Superocean Heritage II.....the one they call the Copperhead....copper coloured face, subdails and bezel on the copper coloured strap
it was sitting there in the case at the store yesterday while the guy was swapping the strap on my Seamaster.....it kept whispering "you have to buy me to thank this dude for swapping all these straps for free"
I gotta be careful.....cause that piece is starting to suggest I should just get it and beg the wife for forgiveness

Like off the charts nice.
the McQueen is going in for some love tomorrow...black perforated OEM will be gone and a blue Hirsch Rally is going on
this thing just begs for a proper blue strap to match the face
8905
didn't think I'd be swapping this soon but discovered a crack in the current strap
2nd OEM strap and deployant on a 7 year old piece in a multi-watch rotation....original strap cracked in the same spot......seems the way the OEM deployant grabs on to the strap actually promotes the cracking
downside is a watch at this level shouldn't burn through straps like this
upside is....that won't be happening anymore.....and it's gonna be the hornyist looking McQueen on the planet
pics will follow
apologies again for the shit pics
pretty sure when the folks at Hirsch made this blue rally with the white stitching they had the Monaco McQueen in mind

That blue strap suits that watch so much better.
^^^WOW!!!!!!
yeah...the blue looks like an exact match with the face...the white stitching is right inline with the white lettering and second markers......really like the result here
Hirsch strap is way more beefy than the TAG strap...which I like....feels way better on the wrist now....TAG strap was very thin and almost felt flimsy
I know the Monaco isn't everyone's taste....but I think it's the coolest fucking piece and even better now with that strap
some history was made in the watch world this week
summary - a very cool actor and race car enthusiast got a watch as a gift from his wife in the late 1960s, which he wore all the time until the mid 1980s.... and then generously gave it to his daughter's boyfriend at the time....because the boyfriend did not have a watch
over the decades...that ugly Rolex Daytona that dealers could barely get off their hands gained some traction with the enthusiast crowd and eventually became THE one to collect
this particular model of the Daytona took on a new nick-name : the Paul Newman
well.....this week Paul Newman's actual Paul Newman sold at auction
ahem....for $17,800,000 usd
https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/paul-newman-rolex-daytona-auction-most-expensive-watch-ever

imo....this is gonna do to the vintage Rolex market what Barrett Jackson did to the vintage Mopar/hemi and Shelby Cobra market
aka - a bunch of folks who want way too much money for their old neglected junk
that Daytona was one of 2000 pieces (not a one-off or even a very limited run).....and in terms of complications in the movement.... it wasn't even close in comparison to other notable high priced auction pieces....and it's a stainless steel watch...not some precious metal
the reality back in the early 1970s was that a dealer would knock the dust off it because it was back in the store room and sell it to you for 1/2 price.....about $1,500
to get a comparable entry level Rolex Daytona today would set you back about $17,000 cdn
the only reason Rolex only made 2000 of the Newman pieces at the time....was because they weren't selling
for perspective - Eric Clapton's Patek Philippe that sold a few years back for $3.6 million...was one-of-four produced and a super complicated movement that would set you back about $300,000 to get a new comparable piece today
getting 17+ million for that was completely insane
Beauty is in the eye of beholder kinda deal??

planning a mainfloor bathroom reno in 2018 so the Breitling I've been all horny about is just not in the cards

Plus they never really mimic the real thing. May fool a random passerby but anyone who knows, knows. My Breitling Chronomat weighs as much as my phone, a fake not so much.
Breguet has some bezel/cases with that style also.
tried on a 42mm Breguet chronograph earlier in the year while I was at the Store swapping straps on one of the pieces
was the same sales lady that sold the Seamaster to my wife....she kept saying "you must always buy UP"
the case on this piece had the sculpted lines running along the side of the case (horizontally)
was a very nice piece....but with a $14,000 price tag I told her if I wore it, I'd be wondering where the other two watches were

Picked this Frederique Constant up in early December. It was an impulse purchase because I've wanted a guilloche dial and it had the moonphase complication which is one I didn't have as yet, and the Breguet hands are a nice bonus. It's a newer Swiss brand but this model has their in-house FC-715 Manufacture automatic movement topped off with sapphire crystal on top and below, and an alligator strap. At 42mm, it's smaller than my other automatics so makes for a nice dress watch.

I've heard good things about them also and almost pulled the trigger on one in the past. They are a micro brand that seems to have a following and use good off the shelf Swiss movements (ETA, etc) - pretty good value I think (you also get sapphire crystal, etc on a lot of models). Raymond Weil has some nice pieces at decent prices as well, especially for a not too big ladies watch.

Yes, the FC line-up is definitely more on the dressy side but I've been using this Baume & Mercier Flyback Chronograph below as a dress watch but at 16.5mm thick it's pushing the envelope under a shirt sleeve whereas the FC at 12.4mm fits nicely for formal occasions. They're on par with the established brands in their category/tier in terms of quality/finish and now that they're making some of their own movements in-house they are they are putting out some price competitive timepieces with nice complications (moonphase, world timers, and now even a tourbillon).

alright.....the brown strap with the tang buckle is gone....and after having this in the rotation for the last 6 weeks I've been reminded how much I hate the tang buckles
now sitting on olive green textile with a proper Oris folding clasp
imo...the way Oris shoulda had this piece done in the first place
11709
11710
11711
11712
had to order the strap from one Oris model and the clasp from a different model that had the same grey coating as the case on my watch.....Oris typically matches up the green textile with the silver clasp not grey
store owner actually took pics to send back to Oris....cause the thing just looks 100% better
totally loving this piece now

it's honestly the most comfortable piece in the rotation...and that's saying something
44mm case with a beefy 23mm strap...and it's actually pretty light in comparison to my other stuff....feels great on the wrist
the face of the watch looks different from every angle and the way the light hits it.....it's quite amazing actually
the deployant on the strap is effortless....great design
the strap is watch porn....and the way they seamlessly joined it into the case should make some of the other high priced manufacturers take note
movement is a Valjoux/ETA 7753.....so it should be a tank
the tan colours on the markings and hands vs the sort of black on the rest.......it's really kinda horny
will follow up as I wear it.....but thumbs way up for now

I have a battery powered watch that was pretty spendy a few years back. I hadn't worn it for a few years thinking it needed a battery. I just swapped out the battery and no joy.
Does anyone have a recommendation on a watch repair joint that does more than swap batteries and bands?
Not really in your area but the watch makers at Bandiera Jewellers (Woodbridge) are good. They are ADs to sell and service the Swiss brands and know their stuff (may be a little spendy based on the brands they typically deal with though, depending on what your budget for the repair is).
while watching the Monaco GP coverage this weekend....noticed lots of folks sporting the McQueen for the TV coverage....courtesy of Tag no doubt

yeah they're all pretty close
a challenge would be starting all the chronograph second hands and getting them all synced up too
and then try to get all the chronograph second hands to sync up with each watch's actual second hand...all at the same time
and then I'd go all fucking OCD and get the minute and hour registers to all match up along with the second hands
I'll consider it a future 6-beer challenge

I've got the silver version of that Speedy Date and it's a fantastic piece....10 years old, never serviced and is dead-nuts accurate
for new under 3k you're into a Mido chronograph
if you've got an Oris retailer near by...go have a look and wait until boxing week sales....I got 50% off my big crown Pilot....was over $2k in savings for brand new....although you have to pick from what they have on hand

I have a buddy in the watch business who can likely help you track down a nice pre-owned (genuine) timepiece if you're interested. They take in units from customers who are upgrading or they can source specific pieces from US sources if hard to find in Canada.
As mentioned, Oris and Mido are nice options as well.

I "think" there's an Oris retailer nearby, may have to stop by and peruse as thats a brand that always pops up for me and then I forget it. As for Mido, can't honestly say I'm familiar with the brand. The Speedy Date to me is just a timeless piece but worried it's too similar to my SS Daytona, but I'd be able to wear it more. Appreciate the long term feedback, looking at used on this one to keep price under radar, was even considering a much earlier vintage Speedy but those are creeping in to territory I don't want to spend ATM.

I think my next Oris chronograph will be a diver on rubber....the challenge will be to buy the diver instead of another Pilot chronograph on textile.....I like their stuff....high quality without the completely insane price
the Mido I recently bought was a little immediate kick back for ditching the cigs.....only discovered them in January....read good reviews and said wtf.......it's a Swatch Group micro brand.....keeps great time, and one of my most comfortable pieces...and for a brand new sub $3k mechanical chronograph it ticks all the boxes....the piece I got is pretty unique and I loved the look of it.....but I wouldn't hesitate to pick up another one that turns my crank...the quality and reliability is there
the Speedy Date.....if I had to give them all up except one....that would probably be the one I'd keep....and yeah, at 40mm on a bracelet it's gonna feel like a SS Daytona
so put it on a rally strap and enjoy

Saw this micro-brand model recently and considering getting one. Just researching the third party automatic movement they are using before deciding. I love the blue titanium dial and there is an option to customize the dial with Breguet numerals instead.
The dial is, quite literally, the “face” of the watch. And just as no two people have the same face, no two dials in the SB04 are exactly the same. We offer two different dial variations – titanium and meteorite.
Our titanium dials are created for us by very talented suppliers in France and Switzerland to our specific requirements. The use of titanium for a dial is not a typical or obvious choice. The manufacturing tolerances are unforgiving, but the results are worth al of the effort. Following a painstaking process to create the dial itself, each one is flame blued by hand. One moment too long, and the dial is ruined. The result? A one of a kind time keeper, unlike any other.
Our meteorite dial is crafted with the same painstaking care. The use of meteorite for the production of watch dials is somewhat rare, owing to the manufacturing challenges that they present. The rich patterns and individual variations occur naturally in meteorite, once again assuring that your SB04 will be unique with no two being exactly alike.
We receive the dials as “blanks” and then finish them by hand in our workshop with indices and chapter rings of our own creation. The watch hands are also an in-house effort. Each hand cut from a sheet of steel, shaped and polished in a process that can take several hours of work.
Making a whole watch requires 2 ½ day of patient and passionate work.
We partner with family firms in Switzerland for our cases. These are made to our specific design, and not an “off the shelf” solution. We prefer to work with these smaller firms as it ensures quality control over every element of the SB04.
We then assemble each SB04 in our workshop, by hand, one at a time.

And who did you go with. Better to get a quote before getting it repaired since it is all original at present.

Nothing too fancy but was intrigued by this Tissot piece when it first came out about 4 years ago (?) and had a chance to try it on in London back in 2017 but then forgot about it until I saw a pic recently. It was a limited edition run and no longer listed in their catalog or from most retailers. I did see online that someone asked them how many they produced and the number was 3,500 which seems low for a mass producer like Tissot (using a Swiss mechanical manual wind ETA movement). Anyway, I liked the retro pocket watch styling with the Hunter Case-Back as a reference to the 1930's and railroad style watches so figured I'd try and pick one up while I can still find one. Hopefully there is stock to complete my order and it'll actually arrive in the next couple weeks.

Those are nice divers. What do you think about the Grand Seikos? Too dressy?

Thank you. I will check them out.
I love the Grand Seiko. The leather strapped ones are not so bad TBH. There are a few limited edition models out last year but were pricey as heck.https://www.grand-seiko.com/ca-en/collections/sbgd205j

I saw this one one time but I forget where. My jaw dropped at the price of this Grand Seiko.

This is what I am leaning towards. I am not a watch guy by any means but this one I love so much. Full automatic with sapphire crystal. Silicone band for comfort and looks classy and casual.

I miss wearing proper watches. All I wear now are health trackers. Recently upgraded to new Apple watch 8, although it is great in many ways I miss the elegance of a proper timepiece

Yeah, that's my issue as well - there is benefit to the trackers but I prefer an "old school" timepiece. I just wear a plain thin bracelet/band style tracker on my other wrist for health tracking so I can continue to wear a timepiece on my primary wrist.

The GS attachment /link isn't working. GS is top notch and make their parts/components in-house with a lot of manual/hand crafting so yeah, price will reflect that versus the high volume/production line Seikos.

10-piece production run models with precious metals/stones.....yeah, that will be pricey.

Wow, that watch site is super huge.
Any suggestions for a new guy to look at, just a general interest to wet my knowledge of this site.
Thanks.

You can start with a sub-forum like "General Watch Related Talk" or the brand specific sub-forums if you like a specific brand. As a CDN site it's not as big as a site like www.watchuseek.com/forums/ which has a lot more sub-forums by brands.
