Link is fixed. Sorry about that.

Beautiful timepiece but yeah....I'd go for something like an A. Lange & Sohne first.

Thank you. I will check them out.

I love the Grand Seiko. The leather strapped ones are not so bad TBH. There are a few limited edition models out last year but were pricey as heck.https://www.grand-seiko.com/ca-en/collections/sbgd205j

A couple nice pre-owned Grand Seikos listed on the watch forum:

Just saw the limited edition Prospex Save the Ocean Limited Edition 1965 Modern Re-Interpretation on there as well. Very nice watch. I want but too much to money for a Prospex IMO.

Yes, saw that one as well - nice diver.

Yeah, I think the sell price will be lower - I see Chrono24 has used ones going for between USD$3,400 to USD$4,300 around the world. The diver (second one) sold since last night.

I guess they're a bargain compared to the Gronefeld tourbillon listed for $285,000.

Corolla vs any Lexus....or vs Mustang R? Both will get you to the grocery.

Horology isn't limited to 6 figure sums. Some of the coolest pieces can be had for $1500 or less. Would you rather have 10 $50 throwaway when the batteries dead Timex's in your life or one $500 Seiko Turtle (Prospex SRPE93) that will last you a lifetime and be an treasured heirloom for a future generation.

Beauty of this hobby isn't to buy the most expensive piece and just flex, but to wear a mechanical item on your wrist engineered with precision that keeps time and also can be a reflection of your personality and passion. Sort of like how in this car hobby of ours there's people who buy a bright orange lambo just to rev battle in a walmart parking lot but can't tell you where the hood release is, and there's people who have lovingly restored a 1985 5.0 Capri but in the style of an ASC McLaren tribute. I know which one I'd want to talk to at parties from seeing that point alone, just like if someones wearing a rose gold Richard Mille skeleton vs the guy wearing a Autavia Jo Siffert.

Missed out on the Tissot Chronograph back in March but these two are catching my eye and trying to decide if I should pull the trigger on one....but which one. Went to Sherway Gardens today but they didn't have the IWC in the store unfortunately - it's a 45mm but it seems the IWC sizes "wear larger" than other brands I'm familiar with.

IWC wins hands down for me. Zenith has a good history but that one screams knock-off Audemars/modded G-Shock to me.

Yeah, you're right about the Zenith looking too much like AP - was looking at it because I don't have a sport watch (mostly leather strapped watches) and the IWC comes with leather strap although the Milanese in the photo looks good. IWC is an 8-day manual wind IWC movement and Zenith is an El Primero automatic movement, although the IWC is on the pricey side for a manual wind movement.

Thanks. Was wondering what the fuel gage like dial was for. Turns out it’s a fuel gage.

Ha ha....yeah "fill it up" to 8 days and watch it go down over the week.

If you want a sports watch in the same vein but with enough variation to not be a total carbon copy check out the Baume & Mercier Riviera 10701

Thanks! Will add to the consideration list - that's a nice timepiece. I have a B&M Flyback and it's nicely/built finished and this looks like a great package overall.....wasn't aware of this one.

This Chronomaster Sport came up in the sports watch category over Christmas so got myself a present. Didn't want a Daytona and liked the look of this one with black dial.

Been curious about Grand Seiko as I am aware of their insane attention to detail and quality, and desire to differentiate/outdo the Swiss but many of the models haven't had the emotional appeal to me - saw this Spring Drive model on the weekend and really liked the contrast between the simple midnight blue sunburst dial with the Zaratsu polishing of the case so pulled the impulse trigger.

I believe that we briefly discussed about the Grand Seiko one wings night. The spring drive units are amazing. All parts are made in house including the glass.

Grand Seikos are like a Lexus LFA vs a Rolex being a Porsche or an Audemars being a Lambo. Technically innovative, full of wild precision, but often not the same visceral thrill.

That looks like an insane quality piece look forward to your impressions. A lot of people consider Grand Seikos one of the penultimate "watch nerd" watches.

I think I'd be spending too much time watching the movement in operation through the clear back cover.

Ha ha, yeah definitely watch nerd category. - this video popped up in my feed this afternoon and totally fits that "nerding out" view. BTW, the gold watch with that blue sunburst dial - wow.

The thrill you refer to is why I held off looking at them seriously in terms of acquiring one even though I admired them. Plus, pictures and video don't do them justice. I actually went to see a different watch with a blue sunburst dial (Longines) but saw this Spring Drive with the midnight blue against the Zaratsu polished case, and that sealed it.

Yes I remember - been looking out for them all along but not actively. I do like the in-house approach they use. This one was an impulse buy when I saw it because it evoked that emotional appeal, and fit a space in my watches where I did not have something.

Yup - love seeing the movements at work. Would love to get a timepiece like this one so I can see the movement on the front.
