Gonna do my first Oil change in the 17 and just wondering what every ones thoughts are on that ?? Viscosity wise.. I usually use Mobil 1 Full Synthetic :)

Mark, for what it's worth, I was using the Motorcraft synthetic 5W50 intended for Shelbys / Boss 302s etc. in the car during my ownership of it. Figured that was a safer bet than 5W20 since a lot of the miles on the car were on a track.

I've had all my oil changes in my 2018 GT since new done with Mobil 1 full synthetic and it's been fine.

The 5W20 being thinner, more street use,the 5W50 thicker, better for high revving at the track?? She sounds like an animal with the Resonator delete (H pipe) and cold air intake. I just didn t know if the 5W50 was ok for street use?? I suppose it d be ok, just makin sure bout this engine, all new ot me :) (Lovin it though) :)

I’ve seen VCT/VVT codes in modern cars if the correct viscosity oil is not used, haven’t seen it in a Ford yet though.
Aside from that I have no advice on the matter.

Running 10w30 full syn in the Coyote and Ram with positive results.

I miss read the thread tittle. Thought the oil hadn’t been changed since 2017.

Not getting into another pointless oil thread. Run what ever the manufacturer states, because you know… modern engines, higher tolerances, blah blah blah :spitcoffee:

How does it know? Does it have it’s own SAE testing lab on-board?
(serious question, I’m curious, so many questions)

Oil pressure sensor combined with water/oil temp data should be an easy way to tell if viscosity is out of spec, no?

^Not really, that will only cause a low-pressure dtc. Although the FCA 3.6 uses a dual-mode oil pump and if there is ever a code for the oil pressure circuit the first diagnostic step is to confirm correct oil viscosity, step 2 is change the switch, and step 3 is change the pump-which sucks, lol.

The solenoids and actuators are going to require more amperage and time to make the adjustments, I have seen the codes in Fiat and Alfa Romeo, other brands may not be as sensitive.
