My 4 year old Dell laptop has crapped out and now looking for a desktop. I use it for outlook and some moderate gaming and not much else really. I don't like spending money on computers, but have no issues spending thousands on car parts.

A friend knowing that I don't like spending on computers put me on to some You Tube channels. So off down the rabbit hole I went to view a few channels where they have repurposed some older models.

One that grabbed my interest was a Dell Optiplex 9020 i7 4790 built for $350.00 USD. Thoughts on this or other suggestions?

I have never bought a new computer and always budget-built my own. If you're going to game on it, I suggest a computer case that can house a regular size power supply and a graphics card. That way you can change the components as needed without worrying about fitment. My current budget gaming system cost me around $300....i5 processor, 16 GB RAM, SSD, GTX-970 graphics card and 600 watt power supply.

you need to remember that the faster the computer you have & the better graphics card you have the better you do with online gaming

Realize that and I'm not looking to make a career in esports:D Just looking for an inexpensive system that will allow me to play some of newer titles like New World and Lost Ark.

There's a few PC's that are under $300 for you.

I’m still using a PC I built like 15 years ago. AMD Phenom 965 quad core 3.4ghz processor and 16gb of ram on Windows 7. I do need to change the SSD from a 128gb to something higher. Running out of space. Secondary drive is 1tb disc drive, also need to upsize that. Best thing I did a few years ago was swap the factory processor fan for a Noctua D15 fan which has 2 140mm fans. Cooled down the processors by 6-8 degrees Celsius versus the factory one. It’s huge. Barely fits in the case. My case also has 3 200mm fans, front, side and top and 2 120mm fans at the bottom and back. Some are setup as intake and the rest are exhaust fans.

30480

I’ve thought about upgrading while reusing the case but I realize there’s nothing wrong with the PC I have.
