ISO a new Torque Wrench

In the market for a new torque wrench. Looking for opinions on a decent home gamer wrench that doesn’t break the bank.

I’ve had pretty good luck with my mastercraft that I have used for the past 15-20 years. But it keeps locking up on me

After a quick look at Canadian trash there seems to be no 1/2 drive one that will go below 50ft lbs.

Unless I go electronic I would need to buy two. Since my current small wrench only goes up to about 18-20 ft lbs.

As an example the bolts on my trailer suspension require 40 ft lbs.

What do you have. Anyone use electronic ones? Are they worth the 300-400 bucks for the “cheap” ones?

Also an idea for a permanent thread that contains tool reviews and recommendations.?!?

Reality, your going to need at least two of them. We use this 1/4" version from PA (see a fair bit of inch / lb specs) which covers us up to 30 ftlb then a 1/2 wrench for above that ($$ Snap on 1/2" plus same in 3/8 plus similar high end inch lb pointer type for setting pinion bearings"). The PA one did me well for 5 or 6 yrs (lot of use) but has recently big the dust. Still think value was ok.

Reality, your going to need at least two of them. We use this 1/4" version from PA (see a fair bit of inch / lb specs) which covers us up to 30 ftlb then a 1/2 wrench for above that ($$ Snap on 1/2" plus same in 3/8 plus similar high end inch lb pointer type for setting pinion bearings"). The PA one did me well for 5 or 6 yrs (lot of use) but has recently big the dust. Still think value was ok.

I’ll look into that. Thanks. Might be the best way to go. My current inch lb one maxes out at 220. In/lbs.

I've had my Mastercraft Maximum 1/2" replaced under warranty twice.
I'm easy on it - no using it as a breaker bar - and the ratchet mechanism keeps getting stuck on it.

The price is attractive when on-sale, but i think I'd look for a better option next time.

Masts craft is lifetime guarantee. Bring back to Canadian Tire and have it replaced.

Never needed a receipt since it was lifetime. Many a socket I brought in that I didn’t have the receipt.

Anyway, that said, I’ve got both the 3/8 and 1/2 Mastercraft ones, and they have never let me down. But I agree, there isn’t really any overlap between them. Sometimes I find myself cranking the little one too high, and the big one too low. Never really trusted the torque at the extreme settings. LOL, I’ve always treated torque wrenches little I like having all the bolts at the same torque, not necessarily exactly the right torque. As long as it’s close.

Seems like torque wrenches are the only ones that had the warranty changed. Sockets and ratchets are still lifetime....for now.

I always check my torque wrenches with a Digital Torque Adapter. I believe Project Farm used one in an early UTvid.
All of my various good/cheap/pricey wrenches and older beam models, all are in range for my purposes using the adapter as a torque wrench tester.
I think CTC and Princess sell them.
As a side note beam style were never sexy except in the 60's, but I was told quite accurate.
My 3 cents worth - sorry costs went up for my 2 cents worth.
