Snow Blower Recommendations

Hi

My old snow blower and I had a final falling out so I’m in the market for a new one. I’ve alway had larger two stage blowers but they are heavy and take up a lot of storage space so open to change.

My driveway isn’t huge, maybe 8 car but I’m too old, fat and lazy to shovel by hand lol.

I’ve had really good luck with the ryobi 40V garden tool
line. I have a mower, trimmer and a leaf blower, all work great. I’m a bit intrigued by their new 40V 24” two stage but a bit pricy at $1700. I’m a little on the fence about a battery powered snow blower but zero maintenance and a 5 year warranty is nice.

Thoughts and recommendations for a replacement.

I went to EGO for my lawnmower (56v/5.0a) and it is incredible. It was time for my snowblower too, so I bought the small one for my short double car driveway (56v/5.0a x2). I have not used it yet so I cannot review its performance.

Just bought a 24" husqvarna works good easy to handle will see how it fairs over the season - so far going thru a lot of shear pins but I think its my driveway causing the for a couple of reasons...

I've been using my Ariens Compact 24" almost ten years now. More than enough power for my four car driveway and small enough to fit it in my small two car garage if I have to. My only complaint, the handles are a little low for me.

Can't go wrong with Toro, Honda or Ariens snowblowers. I have a Toro single stage, it's 22 years old and still does a great job at clearing snow. I'm a big fan of the single stage blowers, easy to maneuverer, takes up little space for storage and eats snow like a mother#@$er!

Sadly none of em are "built like they use to" but I still consider Ariens one of the best choices.

I have an Ariens since 2007 and it's been pretty good - lots of power to get the job done and not too big for storage. The carb can be a little finicky so end of season maintenance and fuel treatment is key but I'm sure that goes without saying.

These guys have some good non-winter equipment but not sure what their winter equipment is like.

Leaning towards a single stage Toro or Honda

I’m tired of storing and wrestling a big dual stage.

Traded my 8/24 Craftsman 20yrs ago for a Toro single stage and never looked back. Even use it on my two tiered deck....

I have been using an Ariens compact 20” snow blower for the last 12+ years. Excellent little unit, strong little light machine that easily handles my 20x40 driveway. Even has electric start but I have never had to use it as it has always fired up first pull.

Only maintenance is an oil change every 3rd season, seafoam and ultra 94 every spring and fall. Clean the plug once per year and lube up the auger assembly at the end of the winter season.

She runs like a champ and is only 20” wide so it lives in the garage all year long.

Not a tough test with only 4” of the white stuff but I’m pleased with the Honda 720 single stage so far.

That Honda engine is the smoothest running small engine I’ve used. Good power too

I have a Remington from Lowe’s. Been going fine for the last few years. Uses 5w30 oil which is also the same oil my dad’s Nissan Rogue uses so I always have oil on hand. Also has an electric starter so I don’t have to pull the cord all the time. Best thing about this snowblower, it was free, because my wife bought it for me for Christmas years ago.

With good maint, amazing how many years you can get out of a quality blower. My Ariens is in the 30yr old range, runs like a rock star. Key to keeping these lil engines happy n healthy, you simply can not change the oil enough oh and give it a good shot of SeaFoam before summer storage.

I’ve started using synthetic fuel in my 2 stroke engines. It’s good for 5 years. Not cheap but I use so little and easy starts are nice. I have a jug for the new blower that I may use toward the end of the season so it’ll be the fuel in the tank during storage. And of course, a splash of Seafoam.

This am, first start of the season, third pull n purring like a kitten. Ok so 2/3 worn out muffler sounds more like a bark but you get the idea.

Love my Honda HS720. Small and light and tons of power for city driveways. It does have a have a hard time in a foot of heavy wet snow but all it takes is the first pass and then I do 1/2 or 3/4 of the blade and she plows!
