Ok guys I had some surging while in 2nd gear starting early this year and after track day it has progressed to 3rd and a little in 4th. its when I slowly accelerate and ir feels like someone tapping the gas pedal. I have read it could be the alternator on its way out. Any suggestions? Car has CAI and underdrives.

Have you cleaned the MAF?

Sorry Phil, I have no ideas, but I'm interested to hear the cause and remedy.

Is your trans manual or auto?

Can a worn clutch cable cause surging? I had something similar a few years back and it went away after I replaced the clutch cable... however I did replace the MAF at the same time so IDK.

Clean MAF first, test.
Volt meter to confirm alt charging.
Fuel filter done recently?

New filter + can of SeaFoam and call me in the morning.
Kinda sounds like something the good doctor would say.

Seafoamed last week actually. Cheaper for filter than alt lol

So that explains why your calling now, makes sense.

Maybe the throttle body needs to be re calibrated or at least cleaned.

They'll surge at idle with a dirty TB.

^^ They will so.

So cleaning MAF, no change. Cleaning TB, no change. Battery tested and passed so no Alternator charging problems. I have a fuel filter coming in monday so I will change that out then

Replaced the fuel filter last night and the car feels better but the surging continues.

Any vacuum leaks?

CanadianDrPhil

I dont think so. If it was it would surge most of the time.

It's worth a look. Check all your hoses and fittings. I had a small vac leak with my JLT catch can. Caused the car to run funny. Pulled it off and everything is fine.

Tp sensor perhaps? That is what it sounds like to me.

Checked all my hoses and lines and everything seems fine. Car surges more when cold but can barely feel it when its warmed up. When I push the clutch in and keep my foot stationary on the gas while it surges the car runs fine. Also noticed that when I start my car and still have the clutch pedal down the engine sounds fine and I can hear the injectors. But when i let off the pedal I can hear a tiny knock sound. Like what you heard Rick. But it stops when I push the pedal back down.

On all season driven rides, have seen a couple where corrosion on the aluminum head is severe enough to actually lift the intake manifold just a smidge and cause an off n on vac leak.

Uncle Buck

^^ how the heck did you find that? You you should write a book about these cars someday!

On one, got lucky and saw the gasket was not making full contact after removing intake to clean high carbon build up inside. Other one, could see appreciable corrosion at the edge of the intake and rightly assumed it was lifting off the gasket a tic.
Cars are coming up on 10 yrs old, makes sense corrosion will happen and gaskets can start failing.

Hmm ill have to take a look. Thats probably where the ticking is from too as I hear it under the intake. Ill check it when I do my valve covers this weekend.
