Wifes 2018 Golf wouldn't start yesterday, throw an ECP and check engine light.
Tried it this morning started but ran rough, took to our local VW dealer, appears the squirrels have chewed up the wiring. 4th car on our street.
1 neighbours insurance covered the repair (minus the deductible) anyone else have any experience on putting this through insurance?

I always have a bag of mouse/rat poison in the garage.
It works.

Several months ago I opened the hood of my Mustang and I could smell the smell of death under there.
I couldn't find it but I think there's a dead mouse under the battery tray. The smell is long gone.
I recently found a dead mouse outside the garage.
No damage was done to the cars.

My parents used to feed a local cat years ago and they left the dry cat food in the garage.
I opened the Mustang hood one day and some cat food fell out from the hood sound deadener or whatever it's called.
I'm like wtf.
I started hitting it a bit and more cat food started coming out.
I collected close to two cups of cat food from under there, lol.

I couldn't believe how much those little bastards stored under there.

Apparently, using peppermint oil keeps the rodents away...

I’ve heard arguments that it’s because of “soy-based wiring”. I don’t buy it. Rodents just like eating wiring insulation. We had an old (pre-soy) tractor that a rodent ate thru, shorted, and burned the entire tractor.

Looks like 2 wiring harneses were chewed , one to the fuel pump, and one on the backside of the engine.
So around $600 to repair.
Wasn't as expensive as expected, but now the pain of trying to keep the critters away. Going to try the Peppermint oil etc.
Going to.

Get a live trap, trap them and relocate them and for mice a bucket trap with water in the bottom so they drownhttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210816/a3d80a4f8e0f4456f35b0f8f99a50841.jpg

Was doing a routine check on the Lincoln, pulled the foam engine cover off and low and behold a rodent had been chewing on the foam underside! No idea when that happened, but I did have mice in my previous garage (caught them in traps usually in the fall). Thankfully, no damage to the wiring or harnesses....

On a related note, does anyone know if the silent electronic plug in doodads (very technical term lol) work?

I read that they do work initially, but then they get used to the frequency.

happens a lot lately, I've seen it at the shop here squirrels chewed through the extension cords - wish I had left them plugged in that day...lol it is my understanding that many things on cars including wire casing are made from all natural biodegradable material like grass (gotta be green you know) this is going the be the norm for housing as well in the future - they will soon eat you out of house and home and car haha

I haven't seen mice in my garage since I put Irish Spring soap bars around the perimeter ~

That just proves that NOBODY likes the smell of Irish Spring.
