^Yep, both names are a complete betrayal to the once-great performance vehicles of SVT...I’m sure John Coletti does not approve.
Lightning makes sense I agree, but because if it’s heritage that name should be reserved for a performance variant, not just a tree-hugger version of the pickup.

I have no issue with electric and no doubt this thing will be fast and objectively cool, I just feel like without the thunder its not really a "lightning" so to speak.

I was behind a black Mach E a few weeks ago on the 401 at 140K/h it didn't seem too comfortable at that speed- almost looked like it was beginning to float and looked a little unstable on the lane changes - doesn't interest me at all - can't see the F150 being electric and towing curious to know how that works out

^Would be great for towing and carrying heavy loads, instant torque, and lots of it.....problem is it the range and heat, can’t take too much for too long.

^^^ I suspect the range would be extremely shortened when towing - it's interesting you mention heat because I think down the road electric/hydrogen hybrids will overcome the range issue for payloads and range for vehicles period - I'm assuming this trucks range as a passenger vehicle might be in the range of a Tesla at conservative performance and 2 wheel drive... it will be interesting to see the standoff between this and the Sierra... I think for practicality it might be premature like the F150 with the 2.3ltr, a grocery getter for the city and maybe haul hockey equipment and sticks to the game. Looking forward to seeing it tho

I wouldn't bet on that, not everyone wants or needs a truck. It will be a few years before they have any volume production on them. With these and the electric Transit van that is also coming, Ford is going after the commercial market more than anything.

good if the mach E meets its range claims and came in a bare bones version id already own one for a service vehicle.

Agreed with Ed. The North American truck buyer loves big V8’s. Not exactly the tree-hugging kind of crowd.
I don’t think Tesla stole any customers from the F-150 crowd, and I don’t think Ford will steal any of the Tesla crowd with the Lightning.

Not from what I see. Ford has been pushing V6 turbo trucks for 10 years or so, and I’m sure there are now more of them being sold than V8 trucks.....this truck will be a huge success I’m sure, Ford has conditioned people away from a big, burly V8.

Fair enough. I do agree that they will likely sell as many of these trucks as they can produce. I disagree that it is going to kill Tesla. It might kill the Tesla truck :spitcoffee:

Well the long range is good for epa 483km. That translates to about 338 km usable because Batteries are recommended to only charge to 80% and only run down to 10%. Then factor in any other electrical usage like heat/ac lights, wipers, radio, powersteering. I see real world usage in the 240-260 range. Charging the batteries to 100% takes a long time and is harmful to them. You need something with an epa range of at least 800 km to be a realistic usable pickup truck unless you only commute in the city and never tow or haul anything. Until there is a huge battery and charging breakthrough electric will not take over.

I also agree they will sell as many as they can build. It looks nice and has some great features. I wonder if they can use the battery to heat the door handles so you can open the doors in the winter. lol

Still lots of F-150s with 5.0s being sold, rest assured. Lots of people who will only take a naturally aspirated V8 in a truck still.

^Good call on the range, and don’t forget the cold weather we get here will be especially detrimental to the range......I can’t imagine they’ll sell well in more northern areas.
