View Full Version : Is my clutch starting to go?? 08 GT

Hey folks,

Heard and felt this weird subtle grindy type noise today accelerating in first and second on my 08 GT. Sort of feels like it's slipping? The noise does seem to originate from the lower front end and is consistent. Clutch is stock and original - car has 80,000 KM. Gears engage ok.

Anyone experience this?

Going to call Matt at Dasilva tomorrow to see if they can take a look.

Regards.

Mark

Unless it's seen a hard life, be surprised if it's worn out.
Hydraulic release bearing does fail early on some though. Failure can range from a leak or the bearing itself starting to get noisy.

Thanks. Sounds cheaper than an entire clutch. Will get that checked out.

Not much cheaper than an entire clutch.

Easy to tell if you clutch is fried: Drive in slowly in 3th gear, then mash the gas. If you go, great. If the RPMs simply jump and you no-go, then your clutch is slipping and you will smell smoke.

hmmmmmm.... seems fine in all gears after initial acceleration. No smoke, smell, zero. Just this new loud metal chattering if I gas it from the start. Going to see DaSilva tomorrow and get the official diagnosis. Starting to hope it is the clutch.

sound like throw out bearing

also pressure plate have those 4 spring... YEAH they don't like heat at all, makes a horrible noises at low rpm

Thanks, I'm hoping it's not something to expensive.... my truck crapped out the same day (I think the car and truck talk) and that was a few grand.

Mystery solved! It took Joe Dasilva 47 seconds of driving to tell me the headers were rubbing under torque. ... headers tightened. All fixed. Beats a new clutch any day.
