Well, late last summer I was fortunate enough to purchase a new 2020 F150 with a 2.7litre Ecoboost engine. About a month ago I took it down to see Dr’s ZR and Zippy for an oil change(its second one at 10000km) and some light mods, one of them being the installation of a JLT oil catch can:

Fast forward to today. The truck is now at 11000 and some km and I took the time to check the oil and the catch can. The oil looks great, but I found this in the can:

Not so much oil, but whatever it is I’m glad it’s not going back into the intake.

Which is why I have one on my wife’s Accord. Has a DI engine.

I have a Moroso catch can, on my Magnum RT.

I am amazed of what comes out of it!

Will be installing the same 1 on my GT, when it comes out of storage this year.

It will be interesting to see after the next oil change to see if the 10w30 makes the difference or not.

Had a catch can on my CTS. After switching to 10W/30 there was no point. Took it back off.

Are catch cans necessary on stock N/A motors?

I had one on my 2011 Coyote, it would collect a fair amount of oil but after I went to 10w30 it would collect all of about a tablespoon in between oil changes. I'm on the fence for the 2021 I just picked up... Is the extra insurance worth it? on a side note all the literature says 5w20 oil for the GT, oddly enough my oil filler cap says 5w30.... maybe a parts shortage? lets use the ones for the Ecoboost? Regardless I'll be going to 10w30 as I have always done, can't tell enough people about this, unfortunately not everyone believes.
