Experience with steel buildings

Big shop is in the plans but with the year we have had I don’t think it’s happening soon.

Which leaves me with nothing more than a single car garage.

I have a line on a building (future steel type) however I’m told it’s missing the ends but everything else is there hardware and all.

I know we have some construction guys here. Anyone with experience with these?

I have seen these built before and guys build there own ends out of wood.

Is there anything I might have an issue with permit wise?

Guy is asking about 1/4 what a complete kit with ends would be worth.

Plan would be to use it for a workshop for now so I have somewhere to wrench and then In the future when I can make a proper drive shed happen, this will be come storage for winter and the tractor and stuff.

At one time was also looking into steel buildings. Found it odd how I found so many unused kits out there complete minus the end walls.

No direct experience with them but things to consider:

You'll need drawings and snow loads calculations from the manufacturer signed by a PEng for the permitting. Make sure you can get these before buying used.

I once saw one being built. Guy was taking his time and was about half done when we had a strong wind one day. Being only partially done, it got destroyed by the wind beyond repair

Thought it was odd as well but found that the longer you want it you just ad more rows. Nothing else really changes.
I was told it’s common for people to buy pre sized kits Wholesale and then use what then need. ie have a 60 foot long kit only use 40 and both ends then sell off the remaining 20 feet of arches

When my son bought his property, it came with this steel building (it's like half a culvert), and it was open on the ends as the farmer use to store tractors and hay bales in it.
We framed the ends and bought steel siding to put on it. The building is very solid, you can walk on it no problems.

This made me smile because I initially read this thinking "wow finding an unfinished multilevel property is a pretty huge oddball thing and undertaking. Did someone really erect the framing package and not close in the structure? Then my brain turned on.

If you're going to be permitted, you're going to need drawings/engineering, etc. Easier to find the complete kit with stamped plans or order the exact ends that come on the stamped plans me thinks. Or you know.....erect it as an accessory structure without the ends if possible, maybe thats get signed off, maybe walls appear one day?

turns out it is a complete kit. has a back wall but not a front (ordered that way) complete with drawings and info from the manufacture.

Yes just torn On spending money on a temp structure that will work for now or just saying duck it and building the drive shed I want and be done with it.

I mean if I’m gonna spend 20k might as well spend 80 right?
