As anyone at the last track day knows, I didn’t get much time in before having to be towed off track with a dead car.
Turned out to be a dead short which the ‘good doctor’ tracked down for me.
Might have learned a thing or two watching his methodical approach as well.

Radio interference condenser

This lil fawker. Wire looked like it was still attached to the body of it but had broken / fallen off and was firmly against the metal case causing a dead short.

Did you just pull fuses to try and isolate the problem location?

Fuel system and ignition system feeds are all on the same fuse. It's in there to ward off any possible interference to the radio etc.

Substituted an amp gauge for the blown fuse, went through disconnecting feed wire to the pump while turning key on momentarily to see if it corrected the problem. Next moved onto disconnecting the main engine harness, short was gone. Plugged back in and disconnected 02 sensors, alt, etc until we figured it out.

That thing plugs into harness at ignition coil.

had a short on a fridge the other day. used similer method.

not as easy as it used to be with more electronics. some of them now, the second you un plug something it starts firing off error codes.
