Hey Guys - I've got my motor at a local builder here - they're not too familiar with Ford (as the island is predominantly Chevy and GM...
I've got them going through a few things (checking the block over, heads etc)

Here's my question though - I feel like I'm being up-sold - I've got a roller cam with hydraulic lifters - my RR are a set of Crane 1.7's. They're telling me that I need adjustment in the RR and that I need to upgrade the heads (studs for the RR and a new set of RR as well)

Is this true? It's a mild build - on a set of GT40x heads - the car will never see the 1/4 mile again (especially with the build I've got going on) - but it's going to be a decent amount of power going down to the wheel (I'm thinking around 400ish hp)

I'm not really doubting these guys per se - But they have yet to actually tell me the "why" I need to do this - when this is the same motor I've been running for over 10 years.

Can anyone offer any insight?

The GT40-X heads (if stock) are set up to use an OEM or OEM style pedestal roller rocker. Adjustment is accomplished via shims under the pedestal itself to achieve correct lifter preload. Reliable system for a milder build with no downside beyond a hair tedious to set up. Contrary to what most may say, those heads are a great option for a milder engine.
What cam / induction are you using?

Hey Rick,

It's the "E" cam and an S-trim pushing about 10lbs.

If your overall goals fall into those numbers, combo is still a good option however time has produced far more capable bolt on heads these days.
Back in the day, built a few carb'd plus EFI combos around those heads, pleased each and every time.

conversion to stud mount is usually for valve train stability or to handle more wilder cam specs.

I would check the valvespring pressures and change them if they show any kind of weakness. New seals, valve job, etc.

Thanks for the input! I'll run through it through a full set of testing.

GT-40 heads require an up grade valve spring.
Best deal is a TRICK FLOW SBF CAMSHAFT SPRING KIT TFS-2500100.
Needed period.
