That gen had the Ford 1.9L CVH SOHC engine, the "HO" version in the GT was multi-port EFI compared to throttle body injection (Ford called that CFI for central fuel injection) on the regular Escorts. The next generation cars starting in 1991 model year got the 1.9 EFI in the regular version, and a 1.8L DOHC 16V Mazda engine in the GT. Those were great little cars, I co-drove one in a 24 hr race at Mosport and the car was extremely reliable.

Yes those were awful! The Escorts of that gen were built in a few different assembly plants, and the regular spec cars that came to Canada had standard retractor belts. But because of the USA federal laws requiring cars sold there for 1990 model year and later needing to have either air bags or a passive restraint system, most 91-93 Escorts were built that way until they got air bags in 1994. I'm guessing that because of the low volume of GTs being sold here, they didn't bother to make a Canadian-spec GT interior.

I worked at a full serve gas station pumping gas ( or the professional title we used was petroleum transfer technician) and use to laugh my ass off at the people who would get there heads stuck in the belt as it was moving. Too funny

^Worst part of that whole design was that only the shoulder belt was automated, so a lot of people forgot to buckle the lap belt, lol.
Mine was an ‘88, had a normal pull belt, not auto, car was clean but the deck lid edge was completely rotted off, lol.

You wouldn’t like it anyways Brad. I had one and sold it. For road course the car would roast the tires and that thing is such a massive heat pump with no cooler. Not a good combo. Ok for street and drag strip. Very bad for road course.

oh lol, weird... in actual fact you probably could step on it (not sure why you would lol) but if it was installed properly that splitter is made to withstand 100's of lbs of pressure, it's insane how much stress they are actually under at 100+ MPH

I'd say yes that's a nice deal. On the 17 you get the all of the coolers standard that didn't come on the 15-16s unless you ordered Track Pack. So if you ever did want to do a track day in it you wouldn't have to worry about it going in to limp mode from a tranny or diff overheat signal.

You could always buy a 07-12 gt500 and replicate the mods for a couple thousand. Dont get me wrong, it's a really nice car, but IMO that car is $50k tops.

LOL! I should have clarified far less $$$. I suppose I also should have mention that from a Performance perspective it's easy to duplicate for a couple thousand. Hood and wheels would be definitely be big coin for those exact ones but there are nicer options out there IMO. So lets say including cosmetics you can make a nice car for about 10g's.

Regardless, I see why the KR is priced so high but I other than some older gents with big pockets would be any more desirable than a normal GT500

That looks like a good deal and car appears to already have a smaller pulley/tune on it and low Kms. Maybe offer $44K and see.....

I think it’s priced high. You’d be able to get one cheaper soon. I would really want to know what’s been done to it also. Looks like aftermarket fuel rail and swapped valve covers. My guess it had a bigger blower on it before. that intake is also way too big for the stock blower. Car looks lowered and has aftermarket mufflers. Also brakes where swapped out. Also you’ll need to invest in tires as those look like the stock ones which are junk and old now. I really like the black with matte black stripes

something has been done to it...strips over the car are right, but missing the rocker strips..?, valve covers are correct, blower should have been aluminum cast colour that year not black., fuel rail is stock, just either painted or anodized red.

something has been done to it...strips over the car are right, but missing the rocker strips..?, valve covers are correct, blower should have been aluminum cast colour that year not black., fuel rail is stock, just either painted or anodized red.

I think it’s priced high. You’d be able to get one cheaper soon. I would really want to know what’s been done to it also. Looks like aftermarket fuel rail and swapped valve covers. My guess it had a bigger blower on it before. that intake is also way too big for the stock blower. Car looks lowered and has aftermarket mufflers. Also brakes where swapped out. Also you’ll need to invest in tires as those look like the stock ones which are junk and old now. I really like the black with matte black stripes

Assumed they will come down at least $2K on asking price. Given the low mileage, I'd say the price is reasonable compared to others in our area (some better deals to be had out west....but then you have to pay transport fee to get the car here). As for the mods, seems like they did some additional upgrades when they were adding the smaller pulley (standard stuff). I didn't really look that close at it though. The mufflers actually looked stock to me....

I've been seeing used 19/20 GTs for really good prices recently. Mid 30s for low option cars and 40ish for pp2 cars is very appealing. I've been contemplating my next daily for a while now and they're definitely on the list. Just not sure its family oriented enough - 12/13 F10 M5s are a really good price (mid 30s for a decent one) and I really like 14+ e63s wagons but they hold their value much better. Hmmm, decisions decisions.

The GT500 is a different animal from the S550's that's for sure. I had the pleasure of driving a friends 2019 GT PP1 w/Recaro's, active exhaust, etc. and it was quite a different driving experience compared to my 08 GT500. Not bad, just different. The GT was much more of a smooth sports car whereas the 500 is much less refined and more visceral in the driving experience at least for me.

Add some boost to the Coyote and it becomes a whole new animal. Good luck with your search for a new DD.

Have to remember this is one persons opinion. My 2010 does just fine making 700+ rwhp and no issues to tune and runs an 11.0 on street 20” tires. Not to shabby I think. I’m sure with some practice I will see a 10 second slip this summer

Seems strange to convert an 86 to carb, why not just start with an 85? Although I guess you're getting the bigger clutch and diff on the 86 to begin with. Why does the car have LX seats in it if it's a GT? Makes me wonder if the car started life as a 5.0 GT or not.

The red paint makes them look bigger maybe, but those base GT 4-piston calipers are pretty beefy castings over 14" rotors ... basically the same dimensions as Boss 302 and 07-12 Shelby brakes.

If your referring to the 34k Shelby ya , it’s got sum km on it but prolly priced accordingly, I wouldn’t know what to look for though . I know guys have mentioned clutch upgrades and a few other things I’m missing . No response from seller
