My engine seems to ping when it is warm and mileage has always been a bit crappy since I got it. 2001 4.6 SOHC. Engine runs great, no other real issues other than pinging and mileage. I'm thinking EGR valve?

Kind of sound like a custom tune with too much advanced timing.
Previous owner may have tweaked the computer tune and may not have told you.

What octane fuel are you using and does the ping go away with higher octane?

From what I know, it's a stock tune.

I use 87 but have run them all with no differences.

I'd look to.......
-possible plugged cat
-clean MAF and retest
-low fuel pressure / lean (filter been done recently??)
-how long since plugs changed?

Maybe it’s got some carbon build up in the combustion chambers. Fire a can a sea foam through it.
Slack/loose timing chain? Working at Honda I see that a lot.

ZR has you on a good path. I'd also check for vacuum leaks and see if you can have your injectors checked. I've had a couple 2V buddies have their stock injectors get sticky after 150k.

No downside to running a full can of SeaFoam through your next tank of fuel.

Cleaned the MAF. I have only put on about 3k since I have owned the vehicle. To the best of my knowledge, the plugs were new when I bought the car. Not sure about the fuel filter. I haven't driven it since cleaning the MAF a couple of days ago.
