... was off to California to 'buy a Lamborghini'

A Utah boy, aged five, was pulled over as he drove his family’s SUV to California, to “buy a Lamborghini.” To make the purchase once he got there, he was carrying the grand sum of $3.

After the child rowed with his mother, CNN reports, he took off in his parents’ car, before eventually being spotted by Utah police doing an estimated 48 kilometres per hour, veering around on the road to the point that cops thought they were pursuing a drunk driver.

Taking to Twitter to report the incident on Monday, Utah Highway Patrol said:

“One of our Troopers in Weber Co. initiated a traffic stop on what he thought was an impaired driver. Turns out it was this young man, age 5, somehow made his way up onto the freeway in his parents’ car. Made it from 17th and Lincoln in Ogden down to the 25th St off-ramp SB I-15.

“His story is that he left home after an argument with Mom, in which she told him she would not buy him a Lamborghini. He decided he’d take the car and go to California to buy one himself. He might have been short on the purchase amount, as he only had $3 dollars in his wallet.”

In footage captured on his police car dash camera, Rick Morgan, a Utah trooper, can be heard asking the kid, as he leans in the car window:

“How old are you? You’re 5 years old? Wow … Where did you learn to drive a car?” Morgan was told by the boy, matter-of-factly, that he was heading to California to get himself a Lamborghini.

Morgan told KSL-TV, a CNN affiliate, that the child could barely reach the pedals, and didn’t know how to put the car in park.

“He was sitting on the front edge of the seat so that he could reach the brake pedal to keep the car stopped while I was standing there,” Morgan said.

It is reported that the child had been left in the care of a sibling while his parents were out; it remains unclear whether his parents will be charged, CNN reported.
