I was listening to some tunes this morning and got to thinking about Canadian bands. Here is my list of the Greatest Canadian Bands (in no particular order)
The Guess Who
The Band
Rush
The Tragically Hip
I don't know if I can say one is better than the other, as they all represent different times in music and Canada.

I think April Wine has to be considered in this group.... Brian Adams, also.

The Hip is my #1
The Trews - amazing live show
Monster Truck - also very good live
Neil Young would be right up there as well, probably Hip, Neil, Dallas

Monster Truck are great, just don't have the catalogue (yet) to be on this list in my opinion
I will add the Tea Party to go along with Rush of bands that I immediately change the channel on the radio if they come on

There's a lot of great Canadian music out there.
In no particular order
Bands:
The Hip
Headstones
Tom Cochrane and Red Rider
The Watchmen
Rush
Neil Young and Crazy Horse, though I dislike Neil's political views
Junk House
The Odds
Limb Lifter
Max Webster
The Guess Who
Staggered Crossing
Blue Rodeo
Econoline Crush
Age of Electric
I Mother Earth
The Tea Party
Moist
Why limit it to just bands? I know some will be doubles, but meh.
Solo acts:
Sarah McLachlan
Emm Gryner
Jann Arden
Robbie Robertson
Neil Young
David Usher
Ian Thomas
Jim Cuddy
Kim Mitchell
I could go on and on. With all this musical knowledge, you'd think I'd start a radio show on a community station and call it the "Eclectic Garage".... Oh wait.... ;)

Great list of bands and artists!
Had a discussion last summer at the cottage: who would you consider as the most quintessential CANADIAN singer/band?
I voted for Stompin’ Tom. There is no mistaking that sound, that show, for anything else but truly Canadian.
Tragically Hip was the ultimate winner.

Was the last show I saw before this shit hit the fan. They were in St. Catharines with the Offspring. Awesome show and as a bonus took my son for his first show, he was pretty jacked up.

Greg Godovitz a couple of weeks ago posted a video from in front of the old Knob Hill/Caddies bar while it was under demolition. Hadn't heard him in 30+ years and automatically remembered the words.

Yes he did, my wife went to Porter also with Gregs sister, ( I think her name was leslie?) she went there from 1975 to 79, what year did you go?
Caddies/knobby are going to be town houses now.
There is Facebook group called I Partied at the Knob Hill hotel, which documents all this.
I only went to the Knobby a half dozen times, saw a few bands and some strippers, but was a bit intimadated by the regulars, a bit of a rough crowd.
