I am reluctant to call insurance company...but my thinking, I could be wrong.
I believe discount will only apply from the day you contact insurance to the day you start driving to work again. So discount will be applied for next say 2 months for example when you start driving back to work. Then call them back and notify them you are now driving back to work and start paying 10 percent more and maybe they find away to update your info so you can pay even more then the original 10 percent discount...ya don't trust insurance companies at all...but this is simply my thoughts...

It also includes house , another 10% !
Surprised if they don't add 10% to the house since we are all home so much.

^^^^ that's what I was thinking. The email sent to all from my insurance company does not mention anything about home insurance discount...only auto. Also for me come September the annual insurance renewal the up to date rates would apply automatically...whether it's up or down on cars and house rates based on me not working at home

Spending more time at home means you are likely driving less than the kilometres noted in your policy. That's why CAA Insurance is offering a 10% rate reduction for both CAA Auto and Home insurance policies.
[*=left]The rate reduction will be applied automatically on all new policies as of April 15, 2020 and renewal policies as of June 15, 2020. The rate reduction will be applied for your full policy term and will be available until the pandemic is over.

I put a park on the 2nd daily driver at the beginning of this crap... I also notified them that I don't do my 100km daily commute on the truck anymore and my annual km is now 2000...
I'll call back to change my daily commute expectations once things go back to normal... I'm sure my wife will continue to be 100% remote so we're thinking about selling the 2nd daily driver. But she refuses to drive the Ranger, I think it's a more fun vehicle than the Edge...
Don't get me started with insurance companies. I guarantee that they are going to increase rates sighting losses in world funds markets. They invest and make money in the markets and funds are taking a shit kicking. I have had this discussion with my insurance company in the past. They don't seem to understand that their risk in the financial market is not our problem.

No discount @ My insurance Co. (Belair Direct). Told me I could basically park one of my cars if its not being used (keeping fire/theft on it) and they would refund me the balance already paid (I paid for the yr. up front since they now charge you a nominal fee if you go monthly payments). My renewal is June 29.
Unlike when I store the Shelby for the winter, and they tell me I can't bring it back on the road for at least 45 days......they will allow you to bring the car back on anytime due to the pandemic circumstances.
Still undecided on whether I want to park one of the cars.....

My insurance company (Cooperators) offers a minimum 10% rebate but it's only for the premium paid during April 1st to May 31st. Then only paid to me in July. We'll see how it turns out.

Got an email from my brokers, OTIP... It states, the only way to reduce my premium is to change my vehicle status to pleasure driven from daily driver(commuting to work, etc.). However, my wife and I are both retired so, my vehicle status is already pleasure only. Second way to lower premium, is to remove road coverage. Well, thanks for nothing...lol
I've always had a disdain for the insurance industry and this does nothing to change my view.

So for simple math if you're paying $1200 per year car insurance and get 10% discount for 2 months = rebate of $20 oh ah...some insurance company ask fill out for and answer questions...for $20 I think best Not to contact insurance company....

I took liability off my JAg and all 3 of my trucks, as we aren't working. The Jag has been parked since November. I have only fire and thefr on all 4.
I have been told that even though my wife's car is hardly being driven at all(groceries once a week, ) there is no discount.
As far as my business insurance, also a no go. Since we are not working we don't need liability, but I've been told it would be unwise to cancel it. First, it's difficult to arrange and if we cancel it might be hard to renew (my current policy is the result of "shopping the market" by my broker for 4 months), and there would be no guarantee I could get snow plow coverage again.
Very few insurance companies are insuring snow plow activity anymore, so to get it is expensive, hard to arrange and totally at the whim of the company.
Thus. I'm not working in April and May. My liability and overall business insurance is around $1500/month. So, I'm forced to pay that insurance no matter what, just to make sure I can keep it. $3 grand for literally nothing.

Maybe your insurance company is doing math differently but if any other insurance companies clearly state discount is applied to either a 2 or 3 month period Not entire year.
But maybe your insurance company is the exception.

Like I said in original post I paying $1200 per year...and it's for 2 vehicles, ..not per month . I pay $100 per month total for the 2 vehicles. 10% of 100 is $10 saving per month, if I was offered by my insurance company for the 2 or 3 month period...like said simple math...very simple

So true, while there is a lot of shitty drivers in Woodbridge. The problem lies with insurance companies mapping us with all of York Region which includes high risk areas like Maple and Markham.
Mapping part is BS in my eyes, feels like double dipping. If the peeps I drive around have had / are more prone to having accidents, why am I paying for it vs them not seeing even higher rates?
When calling around for sled insurance a few years back, about a third or more I called would not even quote citing they are not competitive in my area code. Kidding me right, can't ride a sled in the GTA!!!!
No tickets, no accidents, own my own home outright, good credit, drive a vehicle that falls into a low rate category, freaking old as dirt but yet pay north of $3500/yr for my truck and wifes HHR. Riddle me that one Batman.
My brother lives in Port Perry, yr younger n drives same truck but a yr older, pays just over half of what I do and his is listed as traveling for work each and every day. Exact same scenario years ago when he had an Olds 98 Touring sedan and we had a Buick Park Ave (both same yr), paid under half of what I did.
When it comes to rates, shove it up the ass of those who are creating the neg stats n leave the rest of us alone.

If you really want to choke:
my 2016 Jaguar is $3600.00(My Mustang was $3400). Seems a 69 year old man with 2 tickets in 6 years driving a high powered sports car is considered a major risk
2019 Fusion $2000
2017 F-250 Work truck: $2500 Business insurance
2018 F-550 Dump truck: $5000!!!!! Business insurance
2019 F-250 truck $2500 (my son owns it: 33, clean record)
16 ft flatbed trailer: $500
We have $1000 deductible on the cars, $1500 on the trucks. Only one claim on business insurance in the last 15years, $5,000,000 liability
The problem with business insurance is that none of the companies want it, so they price it high.
And shopping around?:
I'm currently with Intac, who are the only ones who give us snow liability(the business liability is $12,000 per year). I have never had a liability claim in 41 years. We've tried RBC, Royal Sun and Alliance, Dejardins and several others. In our case, it seem, you have to pay to play.

Insurance is a scam, a legal mob if you will. I got quoted 6k year just as a business who stores cars over the winter, no electrical in the 30x100 shed, no batteries in the cars (to avoid the chance of fire) and legal BS contract with each client in terms of responsibility. Then another insurance fee if I add oil change and detailing to that storage offering... not to mention the commercial insurance on the future F250 and enclosed trailer. My profits would be eaten up by insurance and government with nothing left for little ol me...
I think I'm paying 1350/year for the 2019 Ranger and 1500 for the 2015 Edge (wife got in a collision).

I was reading this (https://www.prweb.com/releases/why_insurance_rates_have_gone_up_recently/prweb17282477.htm) press release and found that rates of home and auto insurance have been increased in Canada after this pandemic. According to insurance broker Filip Ambroziak, the prices would also go up in 2021 due to low-interest rates, frauds and many other reasons. In my opinion, weak economies would also hit the insurance sector. It is more difficult for personal vehicles, and commercial ones still have some privilege in terms of multi breakdown cover and fleet insurance etc.
In this regard, I was comparing quotes of multi-car driver plans from here (https://www.multiquotetime.com/), but I am not sure either they cover private vehicles, especially when it is about for single private use vehicle. Vehicle cover could also be a good option, but I don't think it includes a coverage plan for drivers. By the way, the rates of Allstate and Aviva Insurance were fine before the pandemic, but I can't say anything about their policies after lockdown. I think we would see many modifications in the auto insurance industry as well after this coronavirus pandemic.

Best advice: shop around for your car/house/personal insurance. Rates can vary substantially. Let your fingers do the walking......and your wallet do the talk'n!!
Oh, and consider raising your deductibles and/or eliminating collision coverage.....especially if you have an older vehicle, since the insurance company won't likely give you much $$ in return if the car is damaged/written off.
