Our 2016 Fusion passed 100,000 km in January. Got to thinking maybe my wife needed a new car. She said no, so I became a closet looker. I went in one day to look at a new Kia Telluride and came out impressed. An awful lot of car for 50 grand.
I took my wife to see it and she liked it, but wasn't sure about getting an SUV and expressed "concern" about "that much money".
Next day(Thursday) I saw an add from Heritage for a used 2019 Fusion Titanium Hybrid for $24,000. Mentioned it to my wife.
Somehow, we wound up at Steve's desk(Heritage assistant sales manager: Bill wasn't there that day) on Saturday and made a deal.
18,000 km. Full factory warranty on top of the 18k. 10 year battery pack warranty. all nice and shiny red. List price $40,000!That's a 40% discount for 18000 km. We took the car.
This past Saturday we loaded the car(it's got a much smaller trunk than our 16 Fusion, because of the battery pack)with the luggage we packed on Friday night(we tend to be very impulsive) and got on the highway to Florida.
Sunday evening we pulled into our hotel in Deerfield Beach, after logging 2530 km in 28 driving hours(our record to Florida is 24, but hey, we're getting older, so more stops, and even stayed overnight).
The one thing I don't like about the car is the gutless motor. It's down 100 horsepower from our old Fusion, which had the 250 horse Turbo.
However, the fuel economy helps make up for that. It has adaptive cruise control(one of the world's great inventions) so highway driving is exceedingly easy, with the car seemingly thinking for itself. With 2 major traffic jams, more pee stops than expected, and speeds mostly around 120 kph, we got an average of 45 miles per gallon. We only had 3 fuel stops, and right now the remaining range is almost 500 km. We spent a TOTAL of 90 bucks U.S on fuel for the entire trip.
That certainly helps make up for a lack of "oomph" in the horsepower department.
And yes, I did think about taking the Jag for this trip, but it has such a tiny trunk we'd have been able to pack only enough clothing for 2 days, let alone 14.
