I've been wanting a Milwaukee 3/8 cordless ratchet for a while as I understand they are awesome.
I noticed today they now have 2

I think the 2557 is a new model. It's beefier, heavier and delivers 55 lbs of torque compared to 35 on the older model.
So what do you think, more power and heavier at $350 or less power and lighter at $250
I could be wrong but I think the price of the older model has come down.
Both come with 2 batteries charger etc.

It’s also on my list. But have not used one yet. how ever since a power ratchet like that gets its torque from the user holding it and not from the motor. I would ope for the one with the metal upper half. My guess (with experience with air ratchets) is the plastic one won’t last as long

I don't see the value in the more expensive one. The one we use is super handy and runs stuff up tighter then you may think. (we have the 2457)

My concern would be more long term plastic fatigue.
We use it commercially, key to long life it to remember it's a tool more geared to running bolts off bs a breaker bar for stuff where a larger ratchet is req'd. We've used both the 3/8 and 1/4" versions, impressed by both. Can not imagine going back to a air ratchet.

I have the 1/4 inch ratchet. Works great if used as intended. As ZR said, running bolts in and out after breaking them free properly

Thanks gents. I think the smaller one makes sense for a fair weather weekender like me.

Zero complaints about any of the Milwaukee stuff I have
We have shifted bulk of our shop power tools to Milwaukee including yard tools like weed eater and leaf blower, all perform above n beyond.

I'll be the one downer here.
I have the 3/8" M12 ratchet that came in a 5 pack of 12V tools, I'm sure it must be the cheaper model. I love all of my other Milwaukee cordless tools but this one has underwhelmed me. It works alright for running already loose fasteners out but you need another breaker bar or ratchet to break them free in the first place what's the point?. My old trusty IR air ratchet I'd just pull the trigger, wrench the fastener loose and let the ratchet take over. The Milwaukee feels to delicate to do that with.
I was also a truck and coach guy, so the bulk of a traditional air ratchet never bothered me much.
It would be great in a 1/4" version for doing interior trim work though.

Found a deal on eBay from a Canadian seller for the 2457-21, so it's on its way.
FYI.
From time to time you see crazy deals on Milwaukee from retailers here. Ratchet I bought from Home Depot was not only on sale as a tool only but included a coupon for a free battery.

Good deal. Was just at Home Depot and it’s going for $220 tool only.
