Been keeping this stuff http://millstreetbrewery.com/hopped-confused/ stocked in the garage fridge while working on the car. Really like it. Change of pace for me who is usually a plain jane Coors Banquet kind of guy.

This beer is really hoppy but not bitter. It is an ale and a lager. It is juicy, herbal, floral, smooth, crisp and doesn’t taste like anything else. It is a sessionable version of a non-sessionable style. Hopped? Confused? Once you try it, you’ll get it. It is deliciously straight-forward.

Ah. I didn’t know that. Al least Rouge River makes some of their products available outside of the brewery. Maybe I’ll have to take a brew trip up to the Tri-Cities area soon. They have a bunch of new breweries there.

Had family over this past weekend and I may need to start a 12 step program!
I have been preaching to my family about craft brewers, and I think I have made some converts. Not one big brewers beer crossed my door step.
Nieces boyfriend is from Vancouver, and he brought the Whistler beer, and she lives near the Real Nice, Burdock brewer on Bloor st W in Toronto and brought the Nu La. Already drank the Beaus lugtread.

Newest incarnation of the perennial Canuck Pale Ale. This one is New Englandized with a different yeast and it is fantastic. If you can get to the brewery this weekend I definitely recommend this one!!!!

They also did the same treatment to the Octopus and it’s also fantastic!

Hazed and Confused a new hazy IPA from Muskoka and Octopus wants to Fight NewEngland IPA. Both really good and really fresh. The hazed was new to the LCBO yesterday and in my belly today.

Yes they seem to be. Heady Topper and Focal Banger are quit often available at the bottle shop in Lewiston but only for on site consumption. Now if we could only get some Treehouse closer to this area.

Oh, it's over the top for sure!
Triple IPA, 10.2%, lots of sediment, so much I had to filter it! I don't mind a cloudy beer, or a bit of sediment floating around, but this was over the top. But 10.2% nighty night.

Last night, cracked open a growler of BarnCat Glow Cloud IPA. Cloudy beer, and oh so tasty!

I personally really like it. The ABVs are ridiculous but if you only want to have 1 or 2, it’s great! The sediment doesn’t bother me at all. I let it settle and get a little warmer than usual then it tastes even better. Just gulp the last bit and you don’t t even know it’s there. I might even have to sneak one into Yuk Yuks tonight cause their selection is atrocious.

This one, like all flying monkeys, caught my eye because of the obnoxious label.. 10.2% ABV for 5 bucks at the lcbo was a steal.. the look was initially great with that honey coloured brew starting off looking fairly clear, until the sediment dropped out right at the end of pouring.. honestly was rather offputting to see the amount of sediment, but once you can get past it.. the smell is hop heaven, I get citrus, peach, mango brought together with a healthy dose of dank.. taste is on par with the smell, but that 10.2 ABV is hidden well by the pleasant bitter finish.. feel is definitely full body, perfect carbonation for an IPA, feels juicy all the way down, and sneaks in a 1-2 punch of dryness and alcohol warmth right after, but makes me want more. Despite the amount of sediment you will see, you will feel none.. overall I think this is a very well done IPA that enthusiasts should try at least once, perhaps in a glass that wont showcase the excessive amount of sediment that may freak some people out.

I might try the suggestion in the last line.




Pours amber/orange with a mess load of hop resin and chunks suspended within the cloudy base.

Pours orange with a huge amount of yeast particles floating around and a patchy, smallish head.

Slightly hazy gold in color with a myriad of floaties visible.

Tons of sediment poured in the glass. Like beyond copius amounts. Looks like flakes of vomit coming back up.

Not bad. It tastes like a blend of IPA and a Porter. Reminds me of Waterloo Dark a bit.


Edit: pour might not be my fault after all. Many beer reviews are of the opinion this beer is over carbonated.

Saw it on IG. Also my friend has a direct contact at the brewery, he buys it then delivers it to us. On this on though my friend was at the brewery the day it was released and picked up a ‘few’ cases.

Western Newfoundland Brewing Company. Almost a liter each.
The Stout River is nice and dark, with great flavour.

Radlers are great on a hot patio - first had them on patios in parks in Munich years ago. They either mix grapefruit juice or lemonade (not the sweet stuff) with weissbier.

Went shopping tonight, got some: No.9, Surround Sound, and Robohop is back in the tank ten series.

No 10 should be out this week as well as Surround Sound 3. May have to take a drive up to the brewery to pick some up.

Robohop should be on the shelves for a couple months now. Also Sunnyside will be out for the remainder of the summer.

I have a good aquitance who has done a number of events with GLB, and asked what the chances of getting the Juno Beach First Wave?. He dropped by with 2 cans! I had spoke to a rep at GLB and they were just blown away from the response for this beer.

Got a bunch while in Murica the other day. Had these today. Southern Tier is in western NY and is making some good beer and SingleCut is in NYC and makes fantastic beer. They are by far my favorite American brewery right now. I’ve yet to have a bad beer from them.

Unfortunately we did not make it over the bridge from Twenty Valley. I got the Oast in Toronto. Probably have to do a CBI run soon so I'll give you a heads up before I head down.

NEIPA (along with HEIMWEH, a dry hopped kellerbier, and Black Lager) are from Junction Brewing (located next to Rainhard and Shacklands in the Stockyards area). They didn't have these when I was there last. If you're interested I can grab some for you to try and bring it next time I'm down.

I’m curious to try the Sunkissed tonight. My motto is “don’t put fruit in the beer!”, so this should be interesting. Beer flavoured sparkling wine.

SUNKISSED BEER / WINE HYBRID

Cloudy by nature with a tart open, a subtle juiciness and lingering hints of crisp orchard fruit. Our small vineyard consists of 500 vines - Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Upon harvest the juice from our grapes is blended with a golden ale and fermented together with Saison yeast. The result is something very unique - a hybrid that is 30% wine, 70% beer.
ABV: 7.5% IBUs: 18

Most LCBOs have a decent selection. In Toronto, there’s GLB out near Sherway Gardens, Amsterdam in Leaside, and a few new small ones in the west end Bellwood’s, Junction, etc. I’ve only been to GLB and Amsterdam.

If you’re looking for crafts, I’d suggest the LCBO. They usually have a good selection.

If you look at the Ontario Craft Brewers they have a beer finder.

Nice - what's your favourite? Which one do you think is most smooth/smokey/caramel versus spicy?

I tried the Woodford Reserve first and now on the Elijah Craig. I'm finding the Elijah Craig more spicy than the Woodford - do you get that note difference between these two? How do the others stack up?

I taste the difference between the two, but it's not a big difference to me. Close allies to them is the Evan Williams, Weller and Makers 46. The Jack single barrel is kind of bland, even though it's one of their more premium spirits. I'd say a nice next step from the Craig and Woodford would be Buffalo Trace. The Bulleit is nice but I actually prefer their rye.

On the spicy side the Four Roses single barrel wins for me.

On the sweeter side The Bakers, Blantons, and Michters stand out.

Woodford was my first, then the Craig, things got out of hand from there. I have a tough time doing a thorough comparison, as I get about 5 in and it's bedtime. I'm a light weight and only drink one night a week when I have special friends over.

More NEIPA - they seem to be less hoppy than the IPAs.....more emphasis on the citrus/fruit notes (I think hops are added later in the brewing process resulting in a less hoppiness).

Yes. I’ve had decent luck with Sawdust, Dominion Brewing in Ottawa and Left Field in Toronto. Some have free shipping if you order enough and some have flat rate shipping. I have some friends that usually go in so I don’t have to pay shipping.

If you want boozy, just picked up this Spearhead Big Kahuna in Kingston tonight. Surprisingly for a 10 % beer, not an over powering alcohol taste. I usually don't venture past 6-7 % beers. Also grabbed Sam Roberts Band Ale, and Hawaiin Style Ale they produce.

I didn't know Kapow was in store now. I've picked up at the brewery.

The event was good - cold beer, food trucks and BBQ, music, nice weather...what's not to love. They do need to add some more vendors to grow it but was a good event.

Plus, wedding anniversary was the day before so we looked at this as a "date night" out.

Slightly off topic: OJ Simpson Bronco chase was 25 years ago. Was reminiscing about "where were you when....", I was at the Bombshelter on-campus pub at Waterloo having a rum and coke and playing pool.
Just looked it up, the Bomber closed it's doors permanently last January!
Fed Hall closed several years ago.
Now the only place to get a drink on-campus is POETS (engineering society club).

Not bad;at first I thought it was flat( where’s my hops) but realized its rather smooth . I couldn’t figure out the flavour either and I couldn’t read the can by the time I finished my beer without my eye glasses

A bit better than a beer buzz (7%) , but no bloated feeling (sound like a girl don't I!). Not sweet either.

What I didn't like about Tequila straight up was it had a swampy taste to me. This takes the edge off.

The beer is called Dibiase. Like the million dollar man. It’s a colab between Barrier Brewing from Oceanside NY and Other Half brewing in Brooklyn. So not near me. Got it on my last trip over the border.

Three Buffalo breweries got together at relabeled four of their beers for sale at Bisons games. They also sell them at local beer stores. This one is Surge, hazy ipa from Resurgence Brewing. It’s good.

No haven't had a Texas ruby in a while...I'm not too picky about sugar I'm still hovering around 9% aside from this or other juice all I drink is water from the ground...the High Commander buys groceries so I don't complain or is I'll have to do it lol but yes I believe that's the only grape fruit juice available in our area
