Hey guys, there is a gear install kit in the buy and sell im interested in for my 07 GT500 but it says for 2010+. Anyone know the difference between install kits for 10+ and 09 and older?
If I look on american muscle, it says the 2010+ kit will fit 05 to 09 GT's? Is it something to do with the 31 spline diffs? Or perhaps something ive heard about is difference in Pinion nut?

Lot of confusion what yrs those kits fit, thought difference was pinion bearing but not positive.

Bigger rear pinion bearing on the newer ones.

So I can't use the 2010+ kit on my 2007 gt500 I suppose then unless I get a separate rear pinion bearing?

It would also appear that the GT500 has a different bearing than the GT's?

The original part number on it for the early GT500 (7R3Z-4625-A) changes to the same number as the 10+ GTs (9L3Z-4630-A). Here is a note from the Ford system:

SHIM USED ON SHELBY IS NOT REQUIRED WHEN USING THE 9L3Z4630A
THE SHIM IS ALSO USED ON THE BULLITT AND HAS TO BE REMOVED
NEW BEARING AND CUP MUST BE USED TOGETHER
THE STACK HEIGHT IS THE BEARING SEAT IN THE CUP AND MEASURE
FROM THE BACK OF THE CUP TO THE BACK OF THE ROLLER
STACK HEIGHT IS 1.045". CUP AND CONE WILL BE MARKED STD4183

not sure if this applies to aftermarket bearings as well though ...

I know the 2013/14 GT500 housings use yet again a larger size pinion bearing. When I built my 8.8 based on a 13 GT500 housing the inner pinion bearing that came from the Ford Racing M-4210-B1 kit was way too small for the DR3Z-4010-A axle housing.

That's correct Scott, the OEM number for reference on those is 6L2Z-4625-AB.

Track pack cars also use large bearing.
