Oil Change OCD

I’m sure there might be a few chirps over this but I’ll put it out there for those who might be prone to being a bit OCD! I have always let my oil drain for several hours to get the most out that I can but realize there is still oil in the pan. So I roll a single paper towel into a tube and put in through the drain plug hole into the pan. It wicks about 6 oz of oil on my Shelby after sitting for a while.1854118542

Fact of the matter, engines, cost huge these days, few extra oil changes go a very long way.

I’ve poured in new oil in the past, kinda like this to pull that last bit of oil out of the pan.

My oil change OCD is limited to putting a bit of fresh oil into the new filter before installing.
Wicking out every last ounce of old oil is expert level OCD.

That’s a bit excessive for me, I only pull the pan every third oil change.

I've always been told factory oil is the best so I just leave mine in. It's sealed so why do i need to change it?

Oddly enough I bought a 2019 Honda Accord Sport 2.0T, drove it to Florida and back...... It was definitely time for an oil change....... Guess what I did? :)

Make sure you use Kleenex to get all the oil power steering fluid out.

When I was young I use to do this - older mechanics advised me not do this because too much oil may wick away from the lower rod and main bearings causing a dryer start up...? since I've been told this I don't completely drain all the oil and refill new oil as soon as possible and always do frequent changes...don't know if there's any truth to this but it made me think and this was along time ago so I couldn't goggle it....lol

On filters that allow, we fill as full as possible before installing the new one.

I drain it all out with the car leaning towards the drain plug for good drainage, also sometimes I’ll toss a little fresh oil in just to clear out the bottom of the pan

no got lucky I guess we had some last week and over the weekend maybe 2"s total but it is gone now...
