New Ranger 2wd Off Road package

Up until now, if you didn't option four-wheel drive in your Ford Ranger, you haven't been able to get your mid-size pickup with an off-roading package. Well, that changes today. Ford has introduced a new FX2 package for two-wheel drive Rangers, and it includes a whole bunch of trail-ready upgrades. The best part? The FX2 package includes all of the same off-road goodies found in the FX4 pack. It's aimed at Ranger buyers who don't need four-wheel drive but still want to take their trucks off-road. You get an electronic locking rear differential, retuned suspension, underbody skid-plate protection, and all-terrain tires with 17-inch wheels as standard (18-inch wheels are optional). The package also includes Ford's off-road gauge cluster screen, which displays readouts for things like pitch, roll, and yaw.
The same package for four-wheel drive Rangers is $1295. So you're getting the same exact upgrades for less than half the price if you go for the two-wheel drive truck versus the 4x4. Not a bad deal.

They did that with the old Ranger as well, or the Mazda I should say. My B3000 Dual Sport had the same suspension and stance of the 4x4 FX4, but in a 2WD.

That will be south of the border only, at least for now. Currently all of the Rangers being sold in Canada are 4x4 only.

I wouldn't go mudding with it, but lets be honest: people want a 4WD, they don't need a 4WD. None of these special off-road trucks ever go off road. See tons of Raptors around here that I'm sure have never stepped off the pavement.

I’m guessing this is due to slow sales, I don’t know the numbers but I haven’t seen many Rangers around here, and they haven’t done too well at all in magazine comparisons.

Don't know much about the new ranger looks like a tacoma to me - its pretty pricey compared to full size - also think it is difficult for the southern warmer states to get 4 wheel drive as they don't have to contend with snow...

Was gonna say this.

My f150 lariat I just lock The dif. Makes a big difference. Have only needed lock the dif and use 4x4 once and that was in some pretty sloppy mud with a trailer on the back.

Off-roading is fun... you can stick to trails that a stock truck or jeep can handle, it will still be challenging without all the parts breaking off...

Besides... no 2WD available in Canada...

I took mine threw a field with a tandem axle dump trailer full of dirt and rocks. does that count as off roading cuz I needed the 4x4. not even sure I would have made it with the factory tires

Or those who turn a 4x4 truck into looking like a 2wd sport truck. Guilty of it and never regretted doing so many many years ago.
