So I would like the new GT500 (who wouldn't) but availability, cost etc could take it way out of reach.

The local dealer has a new 2017 GT350 for $67,900 --- salesman indicated they may go a little less.
The fit and finish had some issue for a car with a sticker of $81,000.....but it could still be a steal...sort of.

They also have a used 2018 GT350R with 500kms for $97,100

Allowing for one year newer that's a huge difference. Is the R that much more desirable?
Is all the weight reduction that important? I have tracked my current 05, but is it too much for mainly street use?

Totally undecided....and maybe dreaming.

Wow - that's a tough call I have to agree with you on fit and finish that's an important aspect for me and probably the first consideration - I didn't give it much thought with my s550 chase it was about one third of the cost - if you can afford it I would wait the 2020 could be the end of an era not for the mustang but for engineering - personally I really like the looks of the 2020. But this car is out of my wheel house. The 2017 aren't going anywhere I I would bet some dealers somewhere will still have new 2017's on a lot somewhere in north america in 2020...tough decision I would love to see you get a 2020 I think it may be a n important car in history.

My son has a 350 with recaros & track pack its quite the car , sounds like the R with the res delete lol
I’m not up to specs on all the differences between the 2 other than the carbon fibre wheels . I think he based his decision on buying a loaded GT then wanting to mod it vs the 350 . That’s pretty exciting good luck .

A GT 350 would be my choice for sure. An R is nice but the only difference is lack of rear seats, carbon fibre rear spoiler and rims and some red badging. Is it worth the extra 28,000? Unless you buying it as an investment that would be different.

If it's going to be a summer DD, you would likely be happier with a GT with performance pack rather than a GT350. The GT350 5.2 is lacking in lower end grunt compared to the 5.0, something you notice when just slogging around town.

What about a happy medium, going with a 2019 Bullitt?

I agree strongly with Ed. Only get the 350 if you are going to track it. Otherwise, get a GT.

If you get the R, get a set of street wheels and save the lightweight wheels for the track.

Yes I’ve seen carnage on those cf wheels used on the street . If I were to drop 60+ on a car I don’t think I would do it on a high production vehicle, just my 2c
Take them both out & feel em out

And a supercharger lol.

And that's called a 2020 GT500 ... may as well wait for one of those instead of trying to make a GT350 in to something it's not intended to be.

Although it may not have the name to go with it, for a similar price I’m sure black stock could build a blown gt with suspension exactly to your likings

Whats the plan for the car?

Will it be used as a daily driver? Weekend car?

I’d go for the R if you can swing it. Clearly the standard 350 isn’t a super-desirable car and if you plan tontrans it like you’ve done with your other cars, the R makes more sense. Grab some R replica wheels and run them on the street, CF wheels sound really cool but theyre risky on bad roads, and replacement cost is insane, better to use something different on our roads.

Yea the Performance Pack II with the Roush blower that Blackstock mentioned would be my choice. In Velocity Blue (IMO). Probably still 7-8k cheaper than the 350, less issues down the line, and honestly more fun to hoon around on a semi regular basis.

I love the Shelby, but haven't heard great stuff regarding long term longevity out of them and it's more a track rat. All our roads are flat and boring so never get to really enjoy the car to full potential. Also a PP II probably still handles like, insanity.

Since you mentioned a GT500.....why not consider a 13/14? As for the GT350 with/without R, it's a sweet ride, especially at their sweet spot in the higher RPMs. If you want to have some track day fun, that would be a good right out of the box way to go. If you're looking for the odd high speed sprint....I'd go with the GT500. While the late model Blackstock modded GT's are sweet....they don't seem to retain their value like GT350/GT500's do. Something to consider....

PS> If you get a GT350/R.....I'd recommend you make sure you have an extended warranty, just in case you pick up one of the heavy oil eaters and need a new motor.

I love winding a car out to the higher rpms.....the looks of the GT350 also......IMO best looking Mustang side from a few classics. I'd go Gt350 all the way.
