Thanks man, its funny how a medication which is supposed to help your stomach actually turns it into a rollercoaster for the first 5 days.
No mom's special biryani for me for the next 2 weeks I guess lol!
Looking forward to feeling better.

Time to go see the "high commander" and ask her permission for additional funding to complete your projects.
If the answer is yes, I also find that is the best time to ask her for some "additional helpers" for your project.
Say 2~3 young 21 yrs. old females - your choice after strenuous interviewing.
I always get a "oh sure" answer for both requests!! But still waiting on both...........

Found out some bad news a few days ago.
The gunman who was at large in the west end - who killed the cop, also killed my dear friend Shakeel.
He was an employee of his, worked with him for a few months and barely showed up to work - Shakeel was giving him a chance. The gunman walked in and shot him straight away at the front desk.
I met Shakeel at Manheim Auction, he was a client and a dear friend for many years. I know this sounds cliche but he was honestly the most innocent guy ever. Straight up guy who loved giving everyone a chance.
He's got kids and a wife who are devastated. The family is torn apart and will never be the same. He was the sole earner in his household.
We need to bring back the death penalty.
RIP Shak Bhai.

Our governments are run by a few major industries - Weapons, Pharma and Food. The war machine was at bay so Pharma and Food made record profits.
The profit cycles are always cyclical. You'll see this with the past few events, pharma and food companies had the main stage - now its the war in Ukraine. Just watch, as soon as it calms down - something else will kick off.

Abortion rights for mid term elections to influence voters at the state level. Climate change and racism for federal elections as they are national issues. BLM will rear it's head in another 2 years like clockwork.
The US is the biggest influencer, Canada and other countries just ride the outrage wave with some local flavoring.
Refreshing out come.
Long story short, battery in my 5yr old laptop bit the dust in June, ordered a new one from Amazon. Early Sept need it out in the shop n fire it up only to find battery is dead, plug in, battery will not charge. Look up my order, 30 or 60 day warranty only on the battery, contact customer service, no problem will issue full refund.
Hard to imagine it was just that easy.
Thank you Amazon.

once again the search for "I know it's here somewhere" turned into two days of cleaning and organizing. My shop is at peak organization (so far) with about a 5% gain in shelf space.
I did find that thing, but also remembered another "thing" I haven't seen in several years. I'll now resume work and hope to stumble across "that other thing" I haven't seen in a while. A multi year hiatus on my builds wasn't helpful, but it is nice to find some old friends boxed away years ago and discover I already rebuilt many items.

Had the Bronco sport since February.
Overall very happy with it. Comfortable. Decent on gas. Well equipped. The GPS is garbage as is standard with ford but today I encountered something that just dumbfounded me in its idiocy.
A couple times this summer I have noticed moisture on the rubber pad in the back. Never gave it much thought since it is a work truck and almost daily I’m loading it with broken Pumps, icemakers and various other things.
However in the rain today while digging for parts in a bin I realized that when the hatch is open and it’s raining the rain runs along the top edge of the window. Around the edge of the door and directly into the back of the vehicle. A steady stream on both sides of the door.
How can something like this make it past all their testing and r&d?

Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-(
In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!! (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws)!!!!

I didn't watch any of the other videos, but they made it seem like it was going pretty good in that vid. Fit a lot closer than I thought it would. But nothing custom is ever easy. On the other hand, probably fits about as well as most aftermarket parts.
I'm replacing my seats, and would like to replace the ugly steering wheel. But other than that, I like the SN95 interior. I would not go through the trouble of swapping the entire interior. Although tho door panels look real sweet.

the lines are straight and crisp as is the symbol. This required some level of aptitude.
I'll speculate the painter is from a place absent of handicap spaces. Homegrown "workers" have become unwilling to get off the couch after CERB and all other manner of vote buying entitlements have removed incentive to work.
Look at it this way, the painter is paying taxes to support all the incentives for those with greater aptitude to stay on the couch.

^^ I agree about the size of the space. I think the yellow line to the immediate right of the blue square is the mistake, and the entire spot should be for handicapped parking..

Yup I work at Midland. I park the Mustang at the far end with the open field nearest to Sun Chemical.
The lines are straight but there’s a lack of paint thickness. After winter the lines will most likely be worn out. The handicap space is too narrow, yes. It should be wider and center to the handicap sign. We have 2 handicap spots. The one to the left, not visible in the pic, is perfect. Wide and center to the sign. Don’t know how they could get one right and one wrong.

Paying with a credit card will soon cost you more as some businesses plan to add a surcharge

An estimated one in five small businesses is planning to pass on credit-card transaction fees to their customers after new surcharge rules come into effect this week, according to a new survey from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business.
Starting Thursday, businesses will be allowed by credit-card companies to add surcharges to their bills for customers who are paying by credit card. The fees are not set, but would be around 1.4 per cent or more of the bill. Financial institutions use the money in large part to fund loyalty programs.
The new rules are the result of a settlement in a long-running class-action legal battle between small merchants, Visa, MasterCard and financial institutions. Credit-card companies had long resisted allowing businesses to pass on these costs as it could lead consumers to switch payment methods to avoid paying the fees. Instead the cost is borne by merchants, many of whom feel they have to pay the fees to accommodate the many customers who want to pay by credit card.
CFIB president Dan Kelly said he is glad business owners now have the choice of making these fees transparent to their customers.
“Merchants have always had to pass on these fees to remain profitable; they’ve just buried them in the costs of goods,” he said.
According to the CFIB’s online survey of 3,914 members, conducted from Sept. 1 to 8, 19 per cent of respondents were planning to add the surcharges as soon as they could. Another 26 per cent said they would do so if their competitors did, 40 per cent said they were not sure yet and 15 per cent said they would not.
Those in consumer-facing businesses were the least likely to say they would pass on the costs. Only 12 per cent of retail, 17 per cent of personal services and 19 per cent of hospitality businesses said they were sure to add the surcharge.
On the other side, businesses that often sold to other businesses were more likely to want to pass on the transaction costs. Those sectors include: transportation (37 per cent); finance, insurance and real estate (32 per cent); and construction (31 per cent).
For those who did not want to pass on the fees, 79 per cent said it was because they thought it would alienate their customers.
Karl Littler, senior vice-president of public affairs at the Retail Council of Canada, said his group recently held an information session for members large and small, and while there was interest about the issue, he said he believes retailers will remain reluctant to begin surcharging.
“I think it will land with a dull thud in the retail space,” he said.
Still, credit-card fees have led to disputes between card companies and retailers. In 2016, Wal-Mart Canada stopped accepting Visa cards at stores in Thunder Bay and Manitoba for several months. The two sides reached an agreement on fees in early 2017 and Wal-Mart resumed accepting Visa.
The federal government promised in its 2021 budget to put pressure on the card companies and financial institutions to lower the fee from its present average of 1.4 per cent, but has yet to take action on that pledge.
Credit-card transaction fees have become a growing concern for businesses because customers are increasingly using cards instead of cash. According to Payments Canada, there were six billion transactions made with personal credit cards in 2021, compared with 4.5 billion in 2016. The total value of those transactions rose to $509-billion from $408-billion.
Although this legal settlement was driven by small enterprises, larger enterprises have also complained about credit-card transaction fees.
Telus Corp. wrote to its industry regulator, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, in August asking permission to charge customers a 1.5-per-cent transaction fee if they pay their bill with a credit card. Telus told The Canadian Press it expected the charge to amount to an average of $2 a month.
Mr. Kelly said that large companies like Telus getting involved showed how much power credit-card companies have over all businesses. “It shows just how big the market imbalance is,” he said.

I replied, "I'm not sure about that."
He answered, "I'm 56, I'm older than I look."

Reading threw the comments on articles related to this today. Am just dumbfounded at the HATE towards business on this. People demanding that if the business charges for this that they better be reducing the price of the product or service. Calling business crooks. Ect.
People don’t get that this is a fee leveraged by the banks. On a card they are CHOOSING to use.

The presumption is that the CC fees are already factored into the price of goods and services. So is this new fee going to be added to that price? Or is the price going to stay the same and a discount is offered to those that pay cash?

Imagine it would depend on the business. Personally we have not charged more for cc use. But it’s something we have talked about. The issue being before now if we did it would have to be worked in but that would make us more cost than the competition that maybe wasn’t working it in.
Now at least if we add it the customer clearly knows what it is.
Cost of business is always changing. Up and down. When cost of business for a companies goes down people seem to expect that be passed on immediately. But I don’t ever see anyone offering up extra every time fuel costs goes up. (Or some other constant fluctuating cost)

I'm not going to dump on any business for making decisions they think are best for their business but the perspective on the consumer side is not inappropriate either (except when they call the business "crooks" which is just wrong) - these fees have been baked into prices/gross margins in business sectors where electronic payments have been a normal part of the sales landscape since the 1950's so adding it on top of current prices is just an opportune price increase (given the restriction is removed). From a business perspective, it is appropriate since the extra margin drops right to the bottom line/net income. That obviously has to be considered versus impacts to customer goodwill.
Lots of businesses have benefitted from e-payments as it significantly widened where they can acquire customers from (versus in the past which was a localized area where people could only drive up and pay with cash or mail a cheque), so is that fee worth it to them?
On the flip side, our predilection as consumers for rewards (myself included) have resulted in an extra 1-2% for the premium cards (Infinite, Platinum, etc), and that was before you has peeps like Square and Stripe, etc coming in at 3% plus with all-in "simplified" pricing (usually turns out more expensive) which is pretty much includes a premium for businesses who want/need the Apple-like "turn on and go" out of the box versus having to spend more time getting things setup like with a regular PC.

Telus has already announced it will be added to the current pricing for credit card payments so if you pay at the bank every month you won't see an increase but no discount even though it was already a line item in their margin. Others will follow or just leave as is depending on their competitive positioning since it's been baked in forever.

You were not allowed to charge more previously (ie. merchant contract) although the contract breach was tolerated in certain industries if you recall buying computer hardware back in the 1990's when most smaller computer retailers had a cash price and a credit card price; even for debit cards initially when it came out - I think there was a 25-50 cent charge at retailers).

I do know a few small business had a separate price for cc. Or at least a minimum purchase.
We didn't but we also refused to step to the cc on the phone apps to allow me to take cc payments for service in the customers house. We looked at a couple and it was 1.5-2% PT on top of the fee we were paying on the unit at the store. Just said they hell with that. If you have to pay with a cc just go to the store. We kept taking (and still do) take checks for service. But e-transfers are the way it’s at now. Which also seems to have decreased our chasing of un paid bills. People get the email and tend to just pay it right away.
I digress it really depends on the industry and the sale. High COG. And low mark up really make that 2% felt.

If the CC charges were affecting their bottom line, why were they pushing their customers to set up automatic CC payments?
Why do I feel like all this nonsense is directly related to CC loyalty programs? Those points, free stuff, and cash come from somewhere. I'd be happier if they just ditched all that crap and didn't charge the retailers as much. LOL, to take advantage of the 1.5% cash back credit card, I'm going to have to pay 2% more to the retailer.

They want to have cake and eat it too? Auto payments reduce late/delinquent accounts and collection activity which cost way more than 1.5%. Yup, most of the fees above 1.6% would be tied to either convenience, risk, and subsidizing reward programs.

It’s been a scam for quite some time. Banks pulling in big profits every quarter charging customers MASSIVE interest rates and then sticking the fees for all the perks onto small business and forbidding them to pass it on. In an open manner that would show the consumer they were being played.
Some people will justify it. But the bottom line is it’s BS. At least now the business can say hey this is the charge. Don’t want to pay it. Then find another way to pay.

Costco refuses all but MasterCard. They must have an arrangement with them for reduced fees.
Consumers accept retailer CC limitations depending on the retailer.
Increased % CC fees is bullshit. The only real feedback the CC companies will accept is consumer rejection. The only way consumers will reject CC's is if retailers bring it to their attention.
I'm not a retailer so I could be talking out my ass (as usual), but I'm thinking posting a price, then offering discount for cash/debit sounds like incentive over punishment. I'm pretty sure I've seen this. I have no idea how dangerous this is as far as being cast out by the CC company.
In any case the only vote the CC companies will react to is users walking away.

charging customers MASSIVE interest rates
I wouldn't pay the CC lending rates but are they massive?....considering lending people money unsecured to buy anything they want and with a 4-6% loss rate (for credit) and another 1-2% for fraud loss. I don't remember what the banks WACC (weighted avg cost of capital) is but their net ROI/ROE has to exceed the 18% less the credit/fraud losses and overhead. Last I read I think about 55-60% of credit card users revolve and pay interest (and the rest don't so either annual card fees or the 2% merchant fee and I think the banks get back about 40 basis points of that) but that revolving loan data was about 10 years ago (although I don't think it changes that much since we don't change our financial habits as consumers on a mass basis).

Amex had the first credit card deal with Costco for 10 years and then walked away because they were losing money due to how low the negotiated fees were so they walked away and Mastercard stepped in - I'm sure Mastercard negotiated a better rate than Amex had but they're not making much on that relationship - maybe just a little more than breakeven. The opportunity is in cross-marketing to a massive membership database who spends an average of $300+ each visit.

Hypocrisy feeds outrage or indignation. Negative, and attack style adds are proven effective in politics. The alarm instinct causes reactions whether to true or false alarms. Failing to react to a true alarm results in being eaten. The result is we react to a lot of false and true alarms but get a dopamine reward when discovering a true alarm. The reward is the outrage on it's own.
There's a reason all of this hypocrisy never moves the needle, once the outrage dopamine hit wears off we seek more outrage, not resolution.
This also why fear of loss far outweighs fear of missing a gain.

Is it justification that a business should have an expectation to earn a profit and ROE for their shareholders? What do you consider a reasonable margin for a business/owner to make (keep in mind a cc company is also a business with owners/shareholders)?

Yes business can earn money and People are 100% responsible for their own spending but cc companies prey on peoples weaknesses and disparity. I’m. It gonna shed tears for them having to be held accountable. While they still take in millions.

Super hard for a brick and mortar store to compete with the likes of Amazon when they have to pay for all their inventory, interest and overhead while Amazon only pays for their overhead.

100%. It’s a sad state the way public perception is. Had a lady the other day claim that no one buys stuff in stores anymore. People hate on big corporations but line up to give Amazon all their money.
Amazon mess is a whole other story with the people running “side hustles” via Amazon some of the same ones hating on regular business who actually do things by the book.

Wrap might be a cheaper option to colour match.
But won’t get you the life of paint. Paint cost really depends on the colour anymore.
I was just thinking cause I don’t need a grade A job and the cap isn’t big. I was thinking like 5-600 ? To paint it ?

Just think if a business wants to offer perks to attract customers it’s shady business practice to cop that cost on someone else and then force them not to disclose it. It really wouldn’t work in any other business.
Yes business can earn money and People are 100% responsible for their own spending but cc companies prey on peoples weaknesses and disparity. I’m. It gonna shed tears for them having to be held accountable. While they still take in millions.
They are allowed to disclose the fee - prior to this change they were just not allowed to discriminate between different types of payment. It would be similar to a business charging more to anyone paying by cheque because some may bounce. Capital One made a net margin of ~6% on credit card balances for each of 2019, 2020, and 2021 - I'm not sure that 6% is considered "massive". Is the appliance business about 3-4%?

on the QE this morning I saw a very unusual tire failure. Nissan cube doing about 110KM/hr starts swaying side to side in fast lane but keeps it mostly in their lane. I see a complete treat and sidewall section scoot across the highway from fast lane through middle, slow lane and onto shoulder. Looking in my mirror I see the driver rear wheel either on the rim or sidewall. I see light between the rim flanges. They managed to get the car straight and pulled to the center shoulder.
I've never seen a complete, unbroken donut of tread and sidewall separate from a wheel.

lots to bag on Trudeau about, both hypocrisy and just bad behavior. I'm not a MGTOW, but fully understand the position. The underlying theme is indifference towards women, which is a far cry from hatred of women (which is dictionary definition of misogyny). Between Me Too, divorce rape, state assisted asset seizure, and denial of access to children walking away seems pretty pragmatic. It's essentially "I'm taking my ball and not playing anymore".
From a political stand point saying the above would mean admitting men are getting screwed in the current gynocentric social order would be an admission that things are out of balance and need addressing.

Every phone call is "am I rushing in or is it a normal call". Sad but also a relief, he has Lewy body dementia and wouldn't want to keep living as the shell who doesn't know anyone at this point. After the birth certificate nonsense yesterday, I went online during my lunch and ordered a new one, with the expedited delivery option. It arrived at my door today at 2:00PM. FYI, the application for the birth certificate is almost identical to that of the passport. that rant was after moving some stuff around with the F150. its nothing new but annoying. the new Bronco sport is WORSE! it has those back seat reminders but i figured out how to turn it off. the gps takes a full min from start up to boot up an allow you to put in an address. not that big a deal until you realize that if your driving you cant input it. so you have to wait. and then the fact that its my service truck so im putting in up to 20 addresses a day. so thats 20 min a day im sitting waiting for the stupid thing to boot up. both the mini I had with nav, and the wifes bmw. the address can be input withing a few seconds of turning the car on. and both allow you to input while driving.
but they worst, the absolute WORST. was when back up a trailer with the bronco. parking space is tight so routinely when backing up a trailer to park i will open the drivers door slightly so i can lean out and look back, i was doing this as i have for years in other trucks and suv,s and the Bronco stopped. it took me a second to realize. as soon as i opened the door it put itself in park.

saw a wheel off the other day on the drive home. It was the left front tire. Maybe a snow tire all studs sheered off. It is more likely the left side wheels will come off because direction off the tire rotation is opposite to the right hand thread on the wheel nut. tire direction will spin the nuts loose during rotation...something to keep in mind if you install your own snows...

Just rolled over 100,000kms. Downside is it is a WORK truck. Both bumpers are dented, every panel has a scuff or scrape, interior needs to be removed and power washed and steam cleaned badly. Figure a clean one is worth $28k, would sell it for about half that.

But he had a relative get in a bad motorcycle crash last week so he's gone for a bit, my kids due any day now so I'm busy to begin with, and none of the trademen would do a job good enough to justify cost and effort.
Figure someone here could put in the effort if they wanted to make a buck or more likely, clean it up OK and put it to work for another 200k kms.

I have to move the snow blower out of the shed to access the snow tires, so be forewarned.

Don't worry according to global warming disciples we're warming 3-5 times faster than elsewhere.

which is also solved with more taxes, obviously

Don't worry, I can offset this early winter bad weather karma with still having my pool open and turning the heat on for this weekend (4 days around 20)

I have an 8 Plus. My battery is starting to degrade. Eventually I’ll get a new battery too as I don’t care for the new iPhones. I like my home button. Only thing good about the new phones are the cameras.

Got a present from my son...covid! lol
He started a new job at Carquest and got it from one of his contacts. Since his positive test, it took 5 days of daily testing for my test to be positive.

For Christmas you should gift wrap a big box and with his name on it. When he opens it, just leave a note inside that says “you have covid, love dad”.

All cleaned up inside and out. All that’s left is fill tank, stabilizer and oil change and sleep for winter.🥲

Ditto on municipal being the worst.
Arguably the most direct impact. But public school class president all over again. Most popular wins and they are never open about their actual politics but a lot (around here anyway) are not conservative.
Though my favorite right now is the Port Colburn election. Guy running unopposed, so his brother, who hasn’t spoken to him in decades decides to run against him just so he has an opponent.

Ever feel like people always expect you to help with stuff but then when you need help they are either no where to be found or their “help” ends up costing you nothing but time and aggravation.
“Okay need to set this 15 foot log up on the mill deck. Watch so I don’t go too far.”
“Ok”
Moving forward slowly and crunch the whole deck moves 6 inches and they don’t make a peep. No signal, no slow down. They just sit there and watch as you knock it out of place.
Now I get to spend hours re leveling and squaring. The mill deck.
I love her but god damn. what do I expect from someone who dispite mirrors a back up alarms and camera STILL managed to back into a 500lb rock lol

There's infinite ways to segregate people. One I used in the office/factory with my fellow tech types was; If you're feeding an extension cord for a presentation and it snags on a chair leg you have two types. Those will just look at it and those who will free it without prompting. Without fail when I got the "look at it" types in the field they'd always hand me the tool with blade side to me instead of handle. No amount of suggestion, prompting, or swearing made them any more capable.

According to Tucker the US is poised to run out of diesel in 25 days. Fox got the info from The Energy Information Administration and non response from the White House podium on the Q (see the video)
Anyone know the status of Canadian diesel supply?

Huge shout out to the folks at McFarlane trailer sales near Baden. Purchased a new trailer late last spring, had a problem with a tire on the way home, stepped up to the plate immediately to make things right. Now that doesn't happen very often. Well just pulled it out of storage, when I went to lock the front access door for the first time, realized it came with the wrong key. Yup back on the horn to ask what could be done, heard back a few minutes later the correct keys will be in the mail to me Monday. Day of the sale was great but it's the after sales support is what really counts and these guys came through in spades. Not fault of the vendor wrong keys, factory hook to the inside of each door to be sure they don't get lost, put wrong front door keys in my trailer is all.
It's very much appreciated.

I just wish the Apple car play looked better. Imo it’s just chunky and cartoonish. I’d rather use google maps over the ford nav. But the rest of the screen options are crap compared to the ford stuff.

Yes, CarPlay is kinda cartoonish. The Accord has it. I’ve never been in a Mustang with a navi so I can’t compare. What I can tell you is the Dynavin would be an easier install than swapping in an OEM navi. I’ve looked into it, it’s not a fun process. I like that it has heated seat buttons. Pretty much everything I’d need in the Dynavin.
Not a fan of Tesla style screens. I want physical buttons to press.
