I hope Phil is ok.
Storm yesterday, how did everyone make out?
Street south of me has a couple of large trees down, thankfully we seemed to have come out ok.
Ross found some pics of the damage at Mosport yesterrday.

Wind tunnel between the houses here blew one of our garden sheds over. Drove some tapcons through the base after righting it so hopefully won’t happen again.
FINALLY an emergency warning system alert that I benefited from. Admittedly though I thought it was another lost kid at first.

Drove down the 427 after the storm to go pick up Phil at the vet. Almost every house that backed onto the 427 between Finch and Rexdale was missing shingles. Some just a couple, others 30-40sq. ft. or more.

Thankfully no damage to my house. However my parent's house (2min from me) didn't make it out ok. Lots of damage in the area, trees snapped like match sticks, many fences flatten.

I was in the mall when the storm hit. We were just about to leave and decided to wait it out. Power went off at the mall and the backup only does common area lighting. I'd never though about it but it makes sense.
My nephew is up at his family cottage near Bancroft and has 15 trees down across the driveway and no power so his day is clearing the driveway before coming home. He plans to boat over and check my wife's family cottage, see if it is still standing. Friends on the lake had a large tree go through their roof, might be terminal to their cottage.
My brother in Port Perry lost his two week old covered boat ramp, dock broken up into kindling plus the real bastard, large tree on the roof. Hydro says no power till at least Monday pm or Tuesday am.

So took apart a set of used rear calipers. Pretty easy.
29240
Brembos however not as easy. I used an air compressor to pop the pistons out but only the larger ones came out. Can’t seem to get the smaller ones out.
29241
Don’t want to damage the pistons trying pull them out.
easiest to get out if you start with assembled caliper, secure three pistons with c clamps or similar, rag over top of remaining one, using compressed air, blow in the inlet until piston pops out. Remove inner seal ring and push back in and secure with a clamp you've removed from one of the other three, repeat until empty.

I actually did do it first when assembled. I actually just did what you were suggesting before reading it lol. I put the larger piston back in but not fully so I can pull it out by hand and then put a c clamp over it so it doesn’t shoot out. Worked perfectly. Of course I put some dents in my bench as I had them facing down. Don’t want a piston hitting my head.

The youngest boy came running in the house and said “there is a strange lady on the front yard. She said she was from London and wanted to give Cece (our dog) a treat”
I went down and there is a lady just sitting on one of our logs of firewood
I ask if I can help her and she said. No I’m just walking around.
I said okay but this is private property. She said. It’s very beautiful. (As she proceeds to pull a cigarette out of her purse.)
I said thank you. But is there something I can do for you.
She said no I just have this bad habit and I don’t want anyone to see me.
I said okay but my kids and dog play out here this is MY yard. It’s private property.

Yes please. And she walked away

We are right on highway 21 and there is no sidewalk. Sometimes I’ll see people walking on the grass. This didn’t bother me at all.
Coming 50 feet onto my property to engage with my kid and asking questions about my dog. And then lighting up a cigaret like you own the place. To me that crosses the line.

I have problems like this at my workplace which is a trucking company. We have an entrance for cars and trucks. Both entrances have signs that say “PRIVATE PROPERTY. NO TRESPASSING”. Yet people think it’s okay to park their cars in our parking lot and go across the street to the Indian temple. I’ve booted out so many people out of our parking lot. They have the stupidest reasons, like parking lot across the street is full, can’t talk on cell phone when driving so parked here, etc. then I tell them our cameras are recording them and we’ll charge them for trespassing. They immediately leave. Even had a couple tow trucks with cars on their backs from an accident and they blocked the truck entrance. I asked them kindly to move to our second yard so they weren’t blocking the truck entrance. The guys actually gave me attitude. Like I didn’t tell them to leave, just get out of the way so our trucks can get in.

It's mostly kids but strollers and bikes cut through. I have a thoroughfare out front and a newish development out back. 150' between the front and back. Last couple of years I put up motion detector sprinklers in choke points with minimal effect. I had a group of 15 or so 20 somethings cut through last summer on the one night I had the sprinklers shut off. I think the bulk of illegal border crossers go undetected based on the garbage left behind. Not bothering with sprinklers this year as I don't want to pay the water bills. Animals set them off often.
I got a drone I need to learn to fly. I'm thinking I'll follow interlopers with my drone. I'll grab a newspaper and lawn chair and camp out on the interlopers yard since we're all sharing our turf.
I was welding up something on my drive and a group of 4 teens cut through last week. I dropped my shit and started following them. In short order they got nervous. I asked them where "we" were going. They had a football and I made like I intended to accompany them. They made excuses and I turned around before they realized I was one and they were four.

BC is talking about cracking down on money laundering.
From what I got on the radio news report they are moving towards asset seizure for suspected money laundering.
If I understand this correctly this is asset seizure without due process, just like freezing and seizing assets from the trucker convoy without due process.
I'm not pro money laundering by any stretch but if prosecution and seizures are allowed to occur without due process we're in deep shit. What's to stop the authorities (the ones with the guns and monopoly on legally administered violence) from seizing everything you own if you displease the king?

risk of rail strike in the US. Contract negotiations ongoing for the last 2 years, 60 days away from strike deadline.
on another note, google "farmers dumping milk", blamed on supply chain.
There's the same number of mouths to feed as pre covid but cattle dropping dead, farmers dumping crops, food processing plant fires and closures, and potential rail strike looming. Setting aside the more immediate concerns, bankrupt farmers can't supply food next year.
Quick, go stock up on toilet paper.

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be very liberal, and among other liberal ideals, was very much in favor of higher taxes to support more government programs, in other words redistribution of wealth.
She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch conservative, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.
One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the need for more government programs.
The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father.
He responded by asking how she was doing in school.
Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.
Her father listened and then asked, "How is your friend Audrey doing?"
She replied, "Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over."
Her father asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA."
The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, "That's a crazy idea, how would that be fair! I've worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!"
The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, "Welcome to the conservative side of the fence."
If you ever wondered what side of the fence you sit on, this is a great test!
If a conservative doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one. If a liberal doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.
If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat. If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.
If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation. A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him..
If a conservative doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels. Liberals demand that those they don't like be shut down.
If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church. A liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and Jesus silenced.
If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.. A liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his.
If a conservative reads this, he'll forward it so his friends can have a good laugh. A liberal will delete it because he's "offended."

very cool Mav. —recently because of my age I've been leaning to change my career and close out my life back in the arts where I started. Not being in the loop for a long time I've noticed a huge shift in how the artists have changed since the hippy days and how most now voice their hate for conservative, colonialism, and capitalism and lean largely into liberalism blindly managing the arts in a manner of the three they prescribe hate the most...? I'm somewhere in the middle and really hope our future society doesn't lose the conservatives as a separate all together way of opposition...if this makes any sense lol.

Word of mouth is an amazing thing. And also can’t comprehend people who are out there just trying to take advantage.
Had someone reach out. From over an hour away. Heard of us from a friend of a friend.
His buddy had a fridge go down with a weird series of events and was quoted over a thousand dollars or fix it.
As soon as he told me what it was doing I knew exactly what it was. Broken wire on a drawer harness. Known problem for that model.
Talked him threw it. A single crimp connector later he was back up and running
Quoted a grand…. Either there are too many dickheads in the world or I’m just a sucker.

You're overlooking "assumed knowledge".
What is obvious, easy and second nature to you, you assume to be resident with others. I'm not an engineer, but got hired to work under one who had a masters. I was very familiar with the system and doing redesign work which the engineer needed to stamp. If you could break system knowledge into about 5 grades, I was making changes at grade 5. I was explaining these changes to the engineer as I was doing them, and his level of knowledge was greater than those he reported to. After about a year, with many, many discussions my engineer friend came in with a question. I was pleased as he was finally asking questions. His Q was at a grade 1 level, with an answer that was obvious to me on a a righty tighty level of assumed knowledge. What was obvious to me, was not obvious to him. I assumed because it was obvious, he would know it too.
A long winded story to say, don't underestimate yourself, or overestimate your competition. The real kicker is to an outsider, you and the competition are viewed as equal.

As you may know, I am a contractor who builds decks. Over the years I have had a number of civil engineers and architects ask me to build their deck. In every single instance, the deck was hopelessly either over or under designed and I would always wind up completely redesigning the plan to make it work, and/or to meet the building code.
I've also had many wealthy clients about whom you would wonder if they had enough brain capacity to put their pants on in the morning.

the problem is the more ignorant the buyer is about the goods or service the more they will consider all offers as equal. An ignorant buyer won't be able to differentiate Chevette from Corvette and will demand higher value at low cost.
Then it becomes a race to the bottom for 1st contract, followed by a war of attrition waiting for incompetents business to whither.

Brakes done. Feels great. Longer pedal travel as expected since there’s more fluid going to the front brakes. Stops way better though. If I had better tires than factory Firestones, it would stop better.

I got a steel sliver in my eye thanks to my 10,000 RPM burr grinder. I was wearing well fitted safety glasses but one snuck past the net. After a few hours of eye rubbing, eye rinsing with the hose and tearful wrenching I went to emerg.
I was listening to an audio book, "Endurance" about Shackleton getting trapped in Antarctica at the time.
My delay and the hours long wait in uncomfortable emerg chairs gave the sliver time to rust. Pretty unsettling watching a pair of sharp tweezers come at your eye. Follow that with a little medical type burr grinder to buff the rust off my eyeball and I was well into a cold sweat.
Listening to what Shackleton and his whole crew went through (and survived) made me feel like a total pussy for getting unsettled.
Perspective.
Same scenario for me except they used a scalpel to scrape the rust..............fawk that was unnerving.

Been through this situation as well, also while wearing safety glasses. No long term affects for me luckily, but consisted of several trips to the optometrist and lots of eye drops

I can build a deck, frame a wall, wire in new receptacles and fixtures, mud and tape drywall and shingle a roof. My father cannot do any of those things. My father can manage people and corporate finances very well. Only one of us has a Porsche, and its not me.
I also know people in the trades with boats worth close to a million dollars who spend lots of time on vacation in beautiful destinations and have a house that's more retreat than home. I know people with degree's in Finance struggling to get by.
People who value their time and skills accordingly and focus on doing better for themselves vs caring what others have tend to do alright long term.

I've been plagued with back issues over the last few years. Bottom 5 disks confirmed as compressed for some years now. I suspect my vertebrae are locking into each other because of loss of disk space.
I've tried a number of things that have helped in the short term. I go from feeling really good for weeks and then suddenly I can barely walk or bend. Spine deck and inversion table being my latest acquisitions that have given some measure of results.
A yoga friend of mine came over, saw my suffering and gave me 4 stretches. Upon doing the second of the 4 exercises I got a chiropractor like crack and release. Bingo, I went from crippled to almost back to normal.
I'm not a yoga type, but it helped. This friend also identified that my excessively tight hamstrings are likely a major contributor.
I doubt I'm unique with back issues, yoga moves appear to be working. By far the best result of everything tried so far.

Stud on the exhaust flange backed out of the header. Had to cut the stud. Which is fine as the AFE headers have their own locking nuts and bolts and I have spare stock studs anyways.
10 of the 12 studs came off the block. 4 of the nuts seized to the studs. Got the other ones off though. Not worried about the ones that are stuck as I bought a new nut and stud kit, mind you only comes with 6 studs and 6 nuts.

Yep lol. Wasn’t that bad other than the stud that had to get cut. More tedious process than hard. Most annoying thing was loosening the nuts under the stock manifolds as I couldn’t see them. Pretty much just have to replace the studs and install the headers and tighten all the nuts down then it’ll be done.
