Got a lot done today.

First changed the oil on the wife’s car.

Then tackled the Mustang. So instead of bending the hangers I reoriented all the OA pipes and mufflers. Also turns out I didn’t fully insert the passenger side OA pipe into the band clamp where it joins the x pipe. Probably why the tip was touching the valance. Both tips have good clearance although I have them inwards now compared to the exhaust cutouts. I had other things I needed to do so I didn’t want to spend all day working on the exhaust since it’s getting colder and we’re getting less daylight. Maybe in the summer I’ll see what I can do or take it to a shop.

Other things I had to do were change the side markers and fog light bulbs to the Diode Dynamics ones. Much brighter. Since I already had the car on jack stands I took out the tray under the front bumper to get more room to work with rather than go through the fender liner. I also needed to take out the fog lights as one of them got condensation last time I went through a Shell deluxe car wash. I used RTV grey silicone around the seem of the fog lights between the front and back halves since they’re technically mini projectors. The side markers and fog lights are much brighter than the bulb counterparts. I had Hella yellow fogs and the DD LED are brighter. I can actually see them when I’m driving as before I couldn’t tell they were there.

And lastly I changed the cabin filter and changed the oil. Back to full synthetic now.

Couple rants:

Why would you put the cabin filter under the windshield cowling?
How can you vertically adjust the fog lights when the bracket that holds it in place is covering the adjustment screw?

You know what Honda does? They put the cabin filter behind the glove box. Takes a minute to change and no tools needed.
You know what Honda also does. They leave holes in the tray under the front bumper so you can stick a screwdriver in it to vertically adjust the fog light.

What’s wrong with you, Ford engineers.

I did too. Wife's car had a flat, valve is shot. It had a slow leak for a bit, had to add air every couple of weeks. Then I got an oil change on the weekend and I think their checking the pressure was the final straw. Also been driven on flat a couple of times although for very short distances so I'm sure the sidewall is messed up. I'll keep an eye on tire sales over the winter. I've been very happy with the motormaster se3 tires that came with my Kia, if they come up on sale I'll probably grab a set.

So yesterday evening I had no network on my cell. Thought the network was down. Checked my wife’s cell, she had a network connection. Then I checked my Rogers account, there was a new iPhone 13 attached to my account as of yesterday that I did not buy. Called Rogers and told them I didn’t order a new phone. So they have to investigate what happened there. They told me to go to a Rogers store and get a new SIM card. Of course at the time of the night they were all closed and they don’t open until 10AM, the exact time I start work. So had to go after I finished work today and get a new SIM. All good now. Changed my password to my account as a precaution and setup some security features.

The rear end attachment point was torn off due to the frame splitting in half. When it was my wife's main vehicle she did not want to get a rustproof application. Now she knows better, lol.

The one that sold for 230k is a Shelby 1000, it’s the wide body pushing 1000HP. It’s straight up ridiculous and if I had the cash you bet I’d buy it over most things these days.

Sorta but not really ? All the internals are forged right so the process makes the parts expensive. A little more so because the car is pumping 1000HP out of the factory.

From what I hear and read shorts don’t add much power, doesn’t really matter. If you go longtubes it should help a bit

They add some power. Besides I’m not looking to make the most power, otherwise I would have supercharged the car, lol. Just need better exhaust flow. Already have a x pipe and catback, so the header would be the last thing I need. Also, long tubes are so much louder.

Guess I’ll have to buy a meter. I don’t do electrical so never needed one. I’m gonna check everything on the weekend. I don’t think it’s a fuse or relay as those control both seats. I know there’s an issue with the connector under the passenger seat that get melted but that would mean both seats wouldn’t work. Hopefully it’s not the heating element.

If you know one. give them support. not many people could do that for a living.

its also reminded me how long its been since any first aid training. I Plan on getting recertified. everyone should take some first aid training. you never know when you may be the one that needs to step up and save someone. or at lease make every effort to try.

Well, the heated seat is dead. Checked the fuses and the relays, even switched the relays, nothing wrong with either. Checked the wiring, everything is connected and intact. As far as I can tell, the elements are getting power but don’t work. The seat and the seat back are separate elements and both have separate connectors to them. No burn marks on the leather seats. Guess I’ll have to replace them in the summer. Which will be a pain but not an impossible task. The elements are held on by an adhesive backing attached to the foam. Gonna have to figure out how to take them off without damaging the foam. The element on the seat is before the hog rings so won’t have to pull off the entire leather. The seat back though, the element is between the hog rings so I’ll have cut the rings and replace them. Great, another tool to buy.

Passenger side works fine, driver side doesn’t. Well at least my wife’s butt will be warm.

Yes in the first element you listed that round black thing with 2 wires is a thermal limit.

Looks like it comes with the mat however looks identical to those used in many other applications

It should have the temperature limits stamped on it. You might be able to get one via Amazon that has the same limits and repair cheaper.

If you can solder and test. (Just ohm them out. Should be close to 0)

I’ve replaced many heating pads on Honda’s. Heating pads are usually removed from the foam with out much drama.
Hog rings are easy to use.
Should check each heater circuit for continuity. Kinda weird seat bottom and seat back went out at the same time

While replacing the thermal fuse is easier, I’d still have to take the seat apart to even get access to it and find out what rating is stamped on it. Even then it may not work as who knows if the element is damaged.

The seat elements runs along the same harness to complete the circuit. Passenger side works.

Shouldn’t be hard to replace them, just a pain that I have to do it. I’ll probably order them soon and replace them later this month as I have the last two weeks of this month off work.

Trip home, salt trucks still out pouring it on (roads mostly wet with some slushy / lightly snow covered) but they now added plow trucks into the mix driving along in a shower of sparks doing nothing beyond pissing away money. Add into the mix temps were forecast to hit +10 overnight, WTF is up with those making decisions on what happens when. Have we become so pussified no one can cope with even the most basic of winter driving conditions anymore??

I bought it in 06 because the cars I wanted (LS Fbody, SN95 Cobra or a 99-04 GT) cost double to to acquire and I was a fairly broke University student. Then I sold it in 2008 because I had spent basically my entire ownership fixing wiring gremlins related to previous owner including continually melting fuel pump relays, fuel pumped that burned out due to staying hot randomly, and intermittent loss of all power that resulted in having to replace every component of the ignition system. Once that was fixed I then spent $$$$ doing full magnaflow exhaust, y pipe, long tubes, cold air, gears and tuning along with buying full BMR suspension, Llyod Elliot stage 2 ported heads and intake with a comp CC306 cam to install that winter. It promptly rewarded me by dying out for no reason in a McDonald drive-thru and not starting so I had to push it through at which point it started up fine. This was in addition to living with no AC because previous owner deleted further compounding my frustrations. During this time I got to drive a friends full bolt on 99 GT and said hooooooly fuck is this better than my POS, fuck it I'll take a loan if I have to.

I sold the parts for what I paid for them and fire-sale'd the car for 5-6k. Since then I know of at least 4 owners since me. I have ZERO regrets selling it and the only way I'd buy it back would be for sub 3k to try and make a drag car out of it but even then I don't ever find myself missing it and thinking about summers under a glass T-top with no AC wondering if that was a normal sound or a "youre fucked bud" sound makes my blood pressure spike.

I mathed it out for me last year based comparing an edge ST to the Mach E. with the gas prices at the time it worked out to be pretty much the same money to pay for the edge AND the estimated fuel cost for 5 year, to just pay for the extra cost of the Mach E.

as fuel prices go up the math would get better but my concern is long term costs. my last edge got me to almost 300 000k, with nothing but oil changes brakes and a couple wheel bearings.

Savings seem “theoretical “ to me at this point
I.e $75g ( I think Tesla website)compared to my $50 g vehicle / $25g in the hole
It’s not like I get a cheque upfront lump sum for 10yr+ savings (ev vs my gas vehicle)
And even after 10+ yrs of use compared to my gas vehicle if I managed to save 25g over that period I’m just braking even( purchase price) - wouldn’t even see that “ savings”.
- maybe loooonnngg term ev use ok (savings)but if you got say “ half tank or quarter tank” of life left I don’t know if I’ll ever make the switch at this point.

The government will think up ways to put it's sticky fingers into the EV owner's pockets, when the timing is right. Eventually EV owners will pay a road tax, which falls solely on ICE owners. I wouldn't be surprised down the road at home charging stations will require a separate meter for charging.

It definitely would be if you put a 240 volt charger at home. Charge during off peak hours and the car will always be topped up. Not sure of the exact cost but it will be cheap. It’s a huge difference between charging at home vs a Supercharger.

The batteries can be changed in sections. If you speak to a Tesla rep they will tell you that batteries do not have to be changed as a whole but in smaller modules besides 2012 Teslas with 250,000 km are still at 85% capacity and these are the old tech batteries.

For my pockets maybe a diesel vehicle makes more sense, my buddy claims he gets close to 1000 km/ tank and that’s from an old Jetta or Golf :) - probably less than the price of one wheel on that model S :) , but he’s not gonna win any races or save the environment.

So tested the seat elements for continuity and resistance. The seat element, is fine. It’s a completed circuit. The seat back element, is dead. Getting nothing from it. With the way the seat wiring harness is setup, without the seat back, the seat element doesn’t work. Well, at least getting the leather off the seat back isn’t hard. Still have to cut and replace hog rings. Guess I just need to buy the seat back.

Your buddy is not lying. I have a 2012 Passat TDI. It has had the emissions fix done to it since the scandal. I still get over 1000 and up to 1150 kms per tank. It costs about 75 bucks (at current $1.37ish / L) to fill it and it's a fully loaded car, so it's no econo box. Before the emissions fix I would go regularly over 1100 kms/tank so honestly there wasn't much loss in fuel economy.

Yeah. You’d think they’d wire it so you’d only lose one so you’d have some warmth if the other fails. Odd that it stopped when the car only has 24k on it. The connector for it is clipped under the seat so it’s not like something could have affected it. I don’t remember driving into a river either.

Instead of being on low, saw element get hot enough to singe the seat cushion. Thankfully was standing there monitoring or truck would have been an up in flames kinda deal. Contacted mfg, suggested it was my fault for not confirming they got it right before installing..........can not post what I replied with. ;)
