My work is about one block from my house. And that's small town block not big city block. I can walk to work in about 30 seconds. I do how ever spend all day every day on the road doing service calls. So not sure if I win or lose.

20 minute subway ride downtown

bit of a bitch in nasty weather and if there's a subway delay....but 95% of the time it's smooth and stress-free

Commuting grows old fast. I did the Harriston to Dundas daily drive for five years. 250km round trip. About 1.5hrs each way and up to 3-4 hrs each way during bad winter weather. The route was 90% country driving with little traffic which was the only saving grace. I don't know how people put up with daily driving around the GTA. No thanks...My current drive is about 4mins and I don't take that for granted. You have to do what you have to do but stress both financial, physical & mental caused by a lousy daily commute takes it's toal eventually.

My commute now is 6.1 km. I make two stops at stop signs around the corner and there's one light between me and work so if I catch the green it's smooth sailing each day. Bonus is population here is 6500 or so and that surely makes for an easy commute! Hated driving through the city for work and I detest having to come down for any period of time now! Was driving down new westminister when i see a merc amg from an intersecting street to my left. We locked gazes as i passed him. He caught up on my right and we were both just driving along the street towards bathurst.

He starts speeding up and attempted to cut me off but the civic in front of me was being strange and slightly veered into the right lane then went back, effectively stopping the amg from cutting me off. So i end up at the intersection of bath and new westminister in the left lane to make a left onto bathurst. The amg is behind me. The left turn signal goes and I take off. I sped up to 3000rpm when changing through 2nd and 3rd then forth snd I knew he was going to try something. I didnt want to speed and have my wheels spin out because my tires suck.

The Bastard probably sped up to 95 km/h then cut me off within 3 inches of hitting me

I just avoided a dangerous collision with a dimwitted BUFFOON on Bathurst and Summer Ridge.

This VW Jetta driving asshole was at the intersection of Summer ridge and Bathurst and I'm traveling Southbound. I see him/her creeping up in the distance from Summer ridge, preparing to turn right, onto Bathurst: There's even an extra lane for him/her to turn into...
So I'm driving at 60km/h when at the last moment, the car just makes the right turn, across his/her lane and into mine, I had no time to even check my blind spot so thank god when I maneuvered around him/her I didn't hit a car to my left.

I finally turn onto New Westminster and I'm behind this Buick. The person behind the wheel was literally retarded. They all of a sudden drove on both the left and right lanes, stopped slightly very quickly then eventually crept back to their left lane. 3 seconds later, the driver signals for a right lane change and turns off onto centerstreet. Further down New Westminister... at the intersection to promenade mall and that catholic school, a stupid Honda CRV turned on their left signal, nearly hit a car that stopped to make a left turn to get to Promenade Mall. Went around said car trying to turn left, continued up till New Westminister and Clark, and finally went to the left turn lane.


I really had to sit down on the couch for a bit after I came home from work. What a bunch of wackjobs on the road tonight!

It really is dumb not having snows, considering the personal risk of injury to the driver and passengers in an accident, the cost of new vechicles these days and the price to insure them.

So I took my mazda tribute out in the snow tonight (new winter car)
its 4wd/awd with a button in the dash that apparently locks the center diff, (different then my parents explorer with the 3 buttons)
from what I read online it seems to be mostly fwd most of the time and if it senses it looses traction it goes mostly rwd, I felt that today, seems stupid to me.
When I press the center locking button thing, the car becomes a different animal and feels much more confident, doesn't slide corners, seems to even break better (or at least in a straight line)
Can I drove around all the time with this 4wd button engaged (only when snow and icy like today)? Or is it bad to drive with it on for the full trip?

I don't know the exact system in the Tribute, but AWD (or 4WD Auto-mode) is quite often primarily driving the front or rear wheels, depending on the vehicle. Like, a Tribute/Escape are fwd based platforms so that's the 'default'. My 03 Explorer was a rwd platform and so that was it's 'default'. When the vehicle senses slip, it activates a type of clutch to drive the other set of wheels to work in conjunction with the slipping set. The percentage of this adjustment can range. Some makes will put full power to the wheels with more traction. Some up to 50 or 75%, for example AND side to side too!

But when you're locking it in 4WD, there should be conditions that necessitate it. If the roads are dry and you're trying to make slower tighter turns, like in a parking lot, you're gonna feel it bind up. That's hard on the tires, bushings, suspension, the transfer case, etc.

But ya, I've used 4WD around town and then out on to the highway. Once I get closer to the city (assuming the roads are relatively clear), I just flip it off. Rarely would I leave it in 4WD for a full round trip - although a few times last year with that brutal winter, I did.

Last night I decided to be a good samaritan. After boosting a car in the GO train parking lot, saw man wiping his van with his arm, so I let him use my brush. Didn't have his cuz both his and his wife's car were in the shop and this was the backup. So he was happy. Then saw another person doing the same, so I just straight up offered to brush their car off while they sat in the car. Lastly, as I was just around the corner from my house, saw a Mercedes SLK stuck at a corner street so I pulled up to him and pushed him out. Had snow tires, just the snow was so thick and squishy he couldn't move.

Also I'll add that yesterday morning, when doing a tire on Derry, an awesome police officer pulled up behind me and put on his lights to help out. Yesterday was a good test of humanity, and I can tell you that it's still alive and well. Hopefully others have good stories from yesterday!

But after doing some googling, it would appear that the correct wheel nut size is indeed 3/4".
So not sure why mine has larger nuts? ....that sounded funny.
