Got a job offer I can’t really refuse. I’m on the fence but swaying on the side of working for the man again. I need to calculate the opportunity costs of both taking a job and keeping the startup going which is profitable already.

The last company I worked for turned me off to office work but not every company is such a shit show and this role aligns itself to my dream job, a job I’ve been working hard to achieve.

if they lock down everything there is going to be some serious justifying having to take place.

if they only lock down certain areas then they better damn well set up some barricades. and stop the idiots from these hot spots from just up and leaving.

was in Grand Bend today and you would think it was the start of summer with the number of people showing up by the car load with trunks full of supplies.

love covid customers.

lady calls about a very specific product. sorry not something we carry in stock but can order it in. fully explain that special orders are final and must be paid in full before ordering. also explain that the date given is a back order date and is subject to change. lots of crazy going on we don't have control over. customer is fine with all that stuff so pays and is informed we will call.

unfortunately as with everything else Back order date got pushed back date got pushed back . customer was understanding. although her old one had a leak, and was worried that it was gonna cause issues. she just happened to have the part needed to fix but her husband couldn't do it. "would be easier waiting for the new one if the old one wasn't leaking" told her i would stop and have a look while in the area ended up being an easy fix. put on the new seal charged her a whopping $20, she was happy.

fast forward to today. she calls wants to cancel the order. sorry special order sales are final due to covid issues. you were told that at the beginning. "no i wasnt". yes you were and even in non covid times special order gets a 25% restocking fee.
im not paying that you need to refund me 100% of what i paid.

bla bla bla. yelling yelling yelling. look Ill refund you minis the 25% restocking fee. more yelling .......

looks like she ordered the same thing from another dealer around the same time as us. people think that they can just place multiple orders and multiple places and then cancel which ever dosnt come in as fast.

more threats, and mire demands for a full refund.
sorry sale is final . I'm not refunding you anything ill call you when your product is in and you can tell me where you want it delivered

and now she is going to call her lawyer. and I'm just waiting for the bad reviews to pop up

honest question.

customer informed about back orders.

would you refund? full or restocking fee?

where do you draw the line on who gets a refund?

we are small time. typically around 700,000 to 800,000 per year in appliance sales. on a 15-20% mark up.

right now i have somewhere in and around 200000 in back ordered product. all customers were made aware of back order issues. and told dates were tentative and subject to change

store policy is the same as almost every other appliance store. if it has to be ordered it classifies as special order, special order must be paid in full to be ordered, no refunds. in stick items are subject to a 25% restocking fee.

If a customer was informed of the issues placed their order and now wants a refund because they went somewhere else and got a completely different make and model. and now is demanding a refund. Do you give them the refund?

In this day and age and considering Covid-19 I would stick to your policy.

Hopefully you put your policy on the order form/invoice. If you didn’t consider for future. Maybe even have them sign it as recognition of being told. Most would not balk at signing.

The more documentation the better.

As an auditor/accountant I have a healthy attitude of skepticism.

ZR
11-24-2020, 07:29 PM
If said policy is on the original bill of sale, to me your clearly in the drivers seat. In the same breath, if the pair are in demand and more likely vs not gonna fly off the floor in short order, taking them back (discounted) might buy a whole bunch of good will moving forward. In the same long winded breath, gets old with people ordering this that and every other thing only to purchase from the vendor that see's it arrive first. Same goes for those that order a specialty item and only return because they needed just the once.

thanks for the input.

running to the edge of what i can handle lol its almost a daily occurrence where someone is being yelled at by a customer.

Ive been threatened more with lawyers in the past month than I have in the last 5 years.

confident in our policy, it sound s harsh but very common in this industry. read the fine print its the same for everyone.

if i had to pay back even a quarter of what is on back order i might as well just shut the doors.

and my back order is nothing bigger stores are running to the millions on back order right now.

the problem being since we are so small its a constant fight to get product. big box guys just keeps eating up stock as soon as it becomes available.

Snaketamer
11-24-2020, 08:38 PM
If policy is stated in writing on the original order/bill of sale then, I say your 'customer' in SOL!
However, like Rick said, if the product is a good seller... may want to consider a restocking fee.

92redragtop
11-24-2020, 09:35 PM
As others have said, if it's clearly stated on invoice and customer actually received a copy of invoice (this will help if they call their credit card company to dispute, and a lawyer has limited room to play except for a simple bully tactic via a letter - after that it will get expensive for the customer to pursue for a few hundred dollars - risk/reward) then you have a contractual right to stand your ground on the policy - however, there is the goodwill aspect especially if you can move the product quickly.

That's your call and how you manage your business' brand/reputation.

Maybe an alternative to the re-stocking fee language is a non-refundable deposit portion of the special order sale, in the future. This will require 2 transactions so you only refund the refundable portion versus trying to split an single transaction which is more likely to result in a dispute.

I assume you pay for the product in full when you order or do you pay when it is eventually shipped to you? That is - are you holding the float in the meantime or are you funding the money between the time of the refund and when the backorder is filled and you can sell it from inventory?

5.4MarkVIII
11-25-2020, 08:01 AM
its all cashflow. so we would be out of pocket the refund until product can be resold.

i know we are not the only ones in this position. but the chains stores have deeper pockets to refund.

right now i have about 10k worth of customers demanding refunds. i could pay that, but at that rate reserves would be dry very quickly. i honestly worry about setting a precedent. and then not having the cash flow to keep up. unprecedented times

bluetoy
11-25-2020, 02:38 PM
If it is written down you are golden If it is not then you could end up wasting more money fighting a lawyer. At the least I would keep 25%. Fuck the people who are trying to fuck you.

Of course you can always tell them you'll refund their money when the units sell.

I haven't been watching but Hamilton went to Mercedes because they had a brand new car and he was going nowhere with Mclaren - Mercedes prior to their new car was not impressive - perhaps Mercedes time is up for a few years and there's a better car coming down the pipe - this kind of thing happens when race companies scramble to keep up with the rule changes - just speculation but to be honest I haven't been keeping up....

We've got one of those here. It fixes pot holes fast, really fast and does a good job. Way way faster than a crew of 3 or 4 guys.

Gabe
12-15-2020, 03:47 PM
Would be interesting to see how productive it is compared to standard crews going out and doing this. The article mentions the city has 3 crews of 4-5 workers per crew with pickup truck and trailer, blocker vehicle, plus the dump truck and driver. This eliminates all of it, with potentially the blocker vehicle required. That is alot of people and other equipment that are redundant with this purchase. I bet the pay back period on this is only a few years and with no benefits/ pensions to pay for etc.

I didn't look into it, but assume it does a better job that some guys dumping some asphalt in a hole and patting it down as well

The most infuriating part about the lockdowns coming back is people who will retain pay checks dispite being sent home, preaching to the people who risk losing everything “that we are all in this together and all need to make sacrifices.”

The second most infuriating thing is DIRECTLY following the news report talking about how everything will be locked down again because small business are too dangerous. They go to sports and talk about how pro hockey will resume across Canada. With teams continuing to travel back and forth across the country.
And this only days after a guy was arrested for playing hockey out doors.

And this only days after a guy was arrested for playing hockey out doors.

What's the alternative?

Well unfortunately we've hit the stage where trying to get everyone to behave and follow safety protocols hasn't really worked and the numbers are skyrocketing. I'm normally 100% anti government telling me what to do but like, I unfortunately don't see much other option. That said there's a lot of support programs for businesses out there so everyone needs to be on top of that, take as much support as you're entitled to.

there is another option. quarantine the sick, contract trace as much as possible. protect the Vulnerable. keep the masks, sanitizing and distancing mandates. and everyone else take personal responsibility to determine your own risk level. which for the majority of the population is very very low, stop the media fear mongering and give people full, accurate information to make their own decision on. If your not comfortable going out no one is forcing you. if you have underlying conditions there are plenty of programs and business that can deliver what ever you need directly to your door. it makes no sense trashing the economy and destroying more lives.

Sure, except that's basically where we were at, unless you mean ramp up enforcement of that which probably would cost the tax payer more than they could handle in that regard. We were already at "only go out if you feel comfortable and sick people quarantine" levels and it got way way way worse. It's already proven the honour system of enforcement on gatherings and social distancing doesn't work, health units are stretched to the brink and can't keep tabs on the current case loads, and sanitizing and distancing measures are mandatory everywhere.

Also I don't think we really can judge the risks and make blanket calls that most of the population will be fine this early in the game.

agree on some points disagree on others.
I'm not saying that the method i advocate for will stop the spread. it wont. but nether will lockdowns. the sad reality is this is a dangerous virus and people are going to die. I feel that the last 9 months have shown us that lockdowns only make the fall out worse. The WHO says the same thing.

I disagree on the point that health units are stretched to the brink. I say that as someone who has family that work in hospitals. 4 extended family members being drs in one form or another. (and i dont mean a doctorate in education lol) Ontario added over 3000 beds specifically for covid positives. Currently there are only like 915 people in hospital. multiple drs and nurses in Ontario are reporting empty hospitals despite them saying they are over capacity and "stretched to the brink.
my area as an example. we are now locked down like everyone else. despite only 50 active cases across our entire municipality and only 3 people currently in hospital from covid. how do you justify thousands of people out of work. and shutting down business many to never open again. for 3 hospital beds taken up.

I also disagree with this being early in the game. the top medical professionals in the world have been working on this. we know what it is, we know what it does, we have a fairly good idea of the death rate and there are working vaccines rolling out.

its time our leaders stop politicizing and fearmongering and start being open about the realities of the situations and work to mitigate all losses as much as possible. that includes both lives and lively hoods.

I would strongly suggest people go directly to the government websites and start reading into some of the death stats for 2020.
government lockdowns and fearmongering have increased deaths from drugs, suicides, hear attacks, strokes, diabetes, ect ect. the increase this year from last is far greater that the number that have died from covid. these deaths should be factored into decisions to continue down the same path.

Weird cause I got my symptoms last Monday, couldn't get tested until Wednesday night and had to go an hour outside my city to get one that early, didn't get my test results until Sunday and was told today the Health Unit is at least 7 days behind on calling me to contact trace/tell me what I should be doing. I tried calling today and the operator there basically said they're overwhelmed. So that seems pretty stretched.

Also I'm 33, workout every other day, eat healthier than 90% of people, don't smoke do drugs or have any pre existing health conditions and let me tell you. It fuuuuuuuuucking suuuuuuuuuucks.

Our area is still getting results within a couple days.

Testing has been said to be the most important thing from the beginning and yet is one of the things most governments seem to be failing to stay on top of. But I don’t think that testing problems is the same as hospitals overwhelmed

Isn't the hospital test capacity based on ICU beds?

I think there are more surgical ways to deal with restrictions than blanket methods but unfortunately government usually have to take a one size fits all/lowest common denominator approach, and cases like the BBQ guy and anti-maskers protesting and wanting to citizen arrest mayors, etc., creates some of this lowest common denominator issues. Was in a small auto shop in Brampton last week and of 5 customers in the waiting area, only one was wearing a mask. Owner/employees were back in the shop working on cars. Multiply that hundreds of times across Brampton and other cities. I do think testing protocols and frequencies can be improved though and I wonder how much this may be contributing to asymptomatic spread.

On another note, one entire household on our street came down with COVID - 2 parents in their 50's and 3 sons aged 18-25 all got it. Ambulance had to be called twice, once for the dad and once for their 20 year old son due to breathing complications for both. Add to that, another possibly asymptomatic family member (possibly an aunt) may have spread it to the grandparents in North York - they have been advised to purchase a metal casket for the grandfather as he is in ICU (alone) and may not survive. Sad stories like this around - something similar as work with a co-worker's 46 year old family member in ICU.

Never said it wasn’t serious.

The virus is a seasonal respiratory virus and behaves as suck which means come summer it’s drops down that’s what Australia had its first wave when many others were in the summer low.

It was the seasonal aspect of the virus behaviour that led to the summer low. Not the spring time lockdowns.
This is known science and talked about by many experts around the world.

California never fully came out of lockdowns. They have stricter measures than most of the rest of North America. And are seeing record numbers dispite this.
The virus is bad. Lockdowns are making things as a whole worse

countries like New Zealand - Australia and our east coast and I'm sure there are more countries have proven lock downs work and nothing else - Summer had nothing to do with it - our numbers started going up in the summer WHY no more lock down - kids in school - parents at work - all this other bull shit is just smoke and mirrors and whining - country's miss lead by all the wrong facts and the "what if's" or "let's try" have decimated large numbers of their populations of all ages, winter or summer - this carnage comes at the onset of the economic greed - people can't get their heads around the fact this simple technique works the best - we don't even know if the vaccine will work - maybe that's why Canada is taking it slow extremely slow compared some other countries - my only other suggestion is to go to the mall and start licking all the door handles and if your still alive after 14 days maybe your good to go - unless this is reoccurring flu but we don't know that - stick to the hard facts the rest is just everyone in media looking for ten minutes of fame and a following

I agree with all the points you made early. We’re doing things backwards here. The needs of the few out way the needs of the many.

I think we should shut down Walmart and big business and open up small businesses only. I guarantee the economy will jump start here.

The covid tests are faulty. 50% accurate. What a joke.

Also hammer said earlier numbers started when schools went back, I beg the differ. Numbers spiked a week before everything “tried to open”. Also the same time the liberals were under fire from parliament for stealing from Canada and other charities, a pathetic attempt at forcing a lockdown for parliament to stop investigations. Those are facts I’d like the add. Maybe no relation but I smell fuckery a foot. lol

There just seems to be a lot of very convenient things that have happened with covid that have drastically helped certain leaning governments.

Prime example is the “new” strain in the UK that has prompted the entire EU to shut down all trade at the same moment final brexit deals were suppose to be finalized.

Well, science shows it spreads by aerosol/airborne so anyone not wearing a mask to inhibit/limit transmission is potentially a contributor. Are you disagreeing with this?

Anti-maskers, large political rallies by certain people, protests (anti-maskers, BLM, Trumpers, other right wingers) all contribute to the spread or work against the effort to stop the spread. Is this actually debatable?

I stick by one fact, the virus does not spread itself.
With that as a given, if common sense actually existed, virus would be dead in it's tracks.
Countries with leaders that have some of the above plus the balls to do whats needed have kicked Covid to the proverbial curb.

still waiting on you to shoe me the stats to back up what you are claiming.

Many of the long term care cases were earlier in the cycle when to "preserve/protect" the hospitals they sent people out to the care homes - this unfortunately happened in most countries and drove much of the early death rates. Plus they were allowing personnel to travel around and work in different facilities so the virus hitched a ride with them. When you look at the LT homes with with the highest death rates, these are more likely to be older facilities where they were grandfathered under regulations to be able to keep shared rooms (like those hospital wards with multiple people and curtains separating them). Modern regs don't allow this anymore with newer facilities.

I don't believe that the current swell in cases/deaths we're seeing is in these types of facilities - currently, it's general public spread like my neighbours with all members of the households getting COVID, so the virus is hitching a ride on people moving around in public. In the senior living home my wife works at, they have had one positive case (employee) a few weeks ago and "locked down" the facility for a couple weeks and there was no spread to any of the residents who all had to have negative tests so the building could exit lockdown (who have individual apartment style units).

Our area has been averaging around 50 active cases per day since late October.
This has been mostly a result of 2 separate hospital out brakes and a total of 4 or 5 care home out brakes.

There has been community spread in north and east Perth primarily contained to Mennonite community’s.

Even when we were newly weds and money was tight we always set aside to try and make Christmas special. I’ve been accused by “friends” in the past of spoiling my kids. I suppose I do but always try and teach them the importance of sharing and helping others. pre Christmas season always starts with donating seldom used toys to various places.

I’m also guilty of going over board when things are rough. Making kids smile helps me forget the rough times. Well it’s obvious that it’s been a rough year as the pile this year is over board. But hopefully it will help then forget the mess the rest of the year has been.

We also gave to food banks as well as directly to people who were in need after covid issues. And gave over a $1000 to two local schools to buy gifts for kids in the community this year.
Giving makes me happy and to me is the true spirit of Christmas. Sharing love and joy.

I hope despite all the turmoil and heartache this year has brought that everyone here can find some joy this holiday season. In family, friends or in helping others.

Merry Christmas everybody.

I’m not into conspiracies but I’m starting to find it strange that every time they say we’re going to hit a certain number of cases by “x” date, we always get a huge jump in the number just before that date. Especially after the hot mic incident between the chief medical officer and the deputy. They projected this because it's very contagious and its obvious that covid fatigue hit the narcissistic anti maskers and entitled individuals which furthered noncompliance.

House parties, visiting family, panic buying nonessential items, half masking, no masking, lack of social distancing etc etc...

Our government was too soft...thinking Canadians are going to follow health guidelines lol. Further hypocrisy of our politicians telling us to lockdown when they go visit family and have expensive vacations.

But here's to a 2021 that will hopefully be way better than the previous year!

Was curious about how CPP benefits work even though I have lots of time to go - started working around age 21, out of workforce for maybe a total of 3 years in the past 30 years to do a Master's degree and between jobs which reduces the estimated benefit at retirement age. The CPP estimates are available through the Service Canada website which you have to request access code on their website, then register as a user (if not already registered).

Maximum CPP benefit at age 65: $1,204 per month

In my case with the number of years worked so far and CPP contributions to date, my benefit at age 60=$759/month, age 65=$1,187/month, age 70=$1,685/month.

I think the calculation assumes there are no interruptions between now and the retirement ages listed above so it looks like the number of years worked with CPP contributions less <3 years out of workforce (not contributing) reduces the maximum benefit by ~$17 per month.

It appears the average CPP benefit currently for all Canadians is $689/month. Both the average and maximum aren't a lot of money given the cost of living today especially in high cost areas but interesting to know the specific individualized benefit. Once you register and login to Service Canada they show your individualized estimated CPP benefits.

I know they projected it a month and a half ago. I’m just saying that when we approach the final date of their projections the numbers seem to spike to get us over their projected number is a little suspect. Coupled with the hot mic “I say whatever they tell me to say” incident it just makes me think a little bit.

I still do what they say and where a mask when I go out, try to adhere to the 6ft rule, and my work has mandated that masks be worn at all times during work hours.

This afternoon, the letter carrier drops off the notice...fack me...why didn't he just deliver the parcel? It's probably an envelope. That sucks.

So the government has an order out to stay home unless it's an essential trip. You took the right steps to NOT have to go out by ordering online for home delivery but the government entity (Canada Post) is causing you to have to break that order.
Laughable really.

If it's our regular mail carrier delivering, never ever once an issue, get our packages even if he has to swing back later.
However, if it's anyone else, can be sitting in my chair (about 3-4' from the front door) and never once do I hear this phantom knock they talk about.

In spite of so mainly claiming it works, simply increasing flow does not equal cooler IAT's. Tested and retested including the in depth testing we did on several popular water wetter type products all of which failed miserably.
The updated high flow GT500 pump is readily available though.

Father has an old 327 out of a combine taking up space.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqVttw2awCA

Every summer at harvest time, it was my job to man the battery booster while Dad was in the cab. The battery is down by the rear tires. It would take quite a while for fuel to get up to the engine (located behind that round screen by the cab). After much cranking, the engine would eventually fire, bark, and scare the crap out of me (since I was under those twin straight pipes).

Kenne Bell still make the tuner kit? Used to offer one that was all the blower parts and goodies, but san's their fuel system and tuning parts. Would be a solid option I think.

Also $7400 is a big chuck of change no doubt, but keep in mind

- That is way less work than a Coyote swap
- It's reversible if you want to sell the car and blower separately (advised)
- It's likely less than the delta you'd spend to go from your ride to a similar spec'd 2011+ car

IMO if all you want is big seat of the pants ass kicking/low to mid 400hp/minimal headaches and fiddling that's the route. The major difference between spending the money on the kenne vs the coyote on these cars is coyote has a higher ceiling for power, but with that ceiling you have to raise all the other levels of your car to it (driveline etc)

No to bash but I think something is wrong with your car that isn't the Vortechs fault. Before you spend $7500+ on a KB kit I think you need to get your car squared away as is OR strip all the mods off, go back and start from stock and ensure its 100% perfect in base form then add parts.

My problem with this line of though always goes the same way. I go:

- "fuck this car with some more down low punch would be a riot"
- Googles KB blowers as well as Coyote swaps
- Goes down rabbit hole of forum posts, YouTube vids, facebook groups
- Eventually lands on a preferred route, start pricing out options be it a blower swap or motor swap
- Build a budget, always ends up being around $9-10k by the time all the "while I'm in there" and "contingency" items are in place
- Realize I'm essentially intending to invest 80%-100% of the value of my car to make a change that I will use for 2500kms-4000kms a year, and never track it because convertible
- Remember my end goal was always to park something else next to the Mustang in the garage as a hardtop toy, namely a C6Z / CTSV2 or 996TT(rip that dream thanks Porsche inflation)
- Come to conclusion that the 10k I would spend on this car is merely a stop gap until I build the next house and have more garage space for another toy and that 10k would be better served on investing in to another fun car that is actually designed to go fast out of the box and not a convertible with the structural rigidity of al dente pasta and a motor that grenades over 450whp.

Still fighting with the family about the car I want, end up buying al my motorcycle gear and getting my bike license. Family said buy the fucking car. I lost 7-10k avoiding what I wanted.

Moral of the story, if it’s not going to kill you and it makes you happy FUCKING DO IT

I feel you man I really do cause I go through the same thing. My problem is I don’t like the newer mustang ( aesthetically). Also I’ve always wanted my car. I should have bought the cobra but I didn’t have the funds or the knowledge I do now. Anyways I try not to think to much about where money is better spent, it will make you sick. As long as I’m not going into the poor house.

Holy fuck we're the same person. Creepy. I bought a cheap LT1 Firebird instead of spending the money on the car I really wanted, only to fucking hate it and sell it and buy this car, which should have waiting for a Cobra but pot committed now.

Lottery, well that would have been terrific but sadly no. Have had the Cobra a very long time and built it on a snug budget of parts I already had plus buying bulk of the mod parts only when they came along at a crazy deal which meant cool car without breaking the bank. I spend the minimum on most things in my life (6+ yr old cell, 10+ yr old puter, spent 7+ months tracking down crazy deal on current truck, don't take expensive vacations, I'm certainly not a fashion statement unless hobo is in these days, etc) so when it comes to toys send it can be applied from time to time.
Also fortunate to have an incredible family and some great friends, life is good. ;)

At Christmas we bought a Keurig single serve coffee maker. Ease of use and taste of the coffee surprised me, bye bye Tim Horton's and your crappy coffee.

I love my Keurig. Works like a charm. I also have a Tassimo as well. Both work well but some things that are available for one is not available for the other.

We’ve had our Keurig for 10 years. Only descaled once which was a few months ago. Always use filtered fridge water.

Good little machine. I’ve had mine for probably 10 years now also. It was sitting on my office desk, now it resides at the cottage.

4 of us on the team. I ended up doing 11 stints. 50-53min stints depending on if we saved enough fuel for an extra.
Did 3 triple stints & a double stint near the end.

That's pretty awesome - I think I read about this track a few years ago - it's always been my vision but lack the resources...lol - hopefully other tracks will follow suit because I think this one will be pretty exclusive place. I'm not sure why other tracks haven't expanded because many of them have a lot of land surrounding - It be really nice to have affordable paddocks we could just leave are cars at and maybe share with other drivers - I think there's money to be made in this type of motorsports thinking and I think there's the need. Cool can't wait to see it.

Spent the morning at Mount Sinai having a right heart catheterization with exercise- breathing study completed, been having some health issues for a while and finally getting to the root cause of the problem

Was really cool watching them pass a 3’ catheter tube through my arm, looping in around in the blood vessels in my chest, through my heart and into the lungs on the live X-Ray
