Happy Anniversary!!
Did a cruise from Scarberia up 115/35 to 35 North into Minden then hooked W across 118 n back down 11 / 400 today. Ram hit it's best trip average coming in at a flat 9ltrs /100 kms edging out it's previous best of 9.2.
As for the colors, just like the net says, colors are subdued thus far staying closer to dullish yellows n light orange with some trees showing a moderate to bright red.

So I bought carbon credits to offset my notchback. It cost me 13 bucks. I'm not sure how that saves the planet but technically (according to the left), my foxbody now pollutes less than a Prius since it's now 100% carbon neutral lol

Lots of online calculators: Average MPG * Annual Miles. I really think the average fox guy is between 0.5 to 2
So it’s a charity that makes people feel good about not actually reducing their carbon foot print?
Pretty much that. All this is is to allow the rich to pollute. It's just an offset, in theory I should scrap my fox or convert it to electric if I wanted to really reduce the CO2...
In other news, I would like to be part of the change but there aren't many arguments being made on that "side" to follow. It seems like their new leader is a 16 year old who can't think critically due to a mental illness (which is up for a Nobel prize now???).
Like today, block a bridge to protest climate change? Causing pollution as part of the protest seems legit stupid. I'd do more of a "let's all NOT drive to work today" kind of protest. Vision Zero traffic would be the ploy and if marketed right, should work at reducing traffic by at least 50% on that day!
But hey, I have a brain and probably average intelligence. What the F do I know?

I'll admit I haven't looked at the website but learned a little about outfits like Bullfrog a few years back - isn't the concept that the projects they fund with the purchased offsets contribute to a net reduction overall by improving technology elsewhere where they don't typically have the capital to do so themselves? Also, the folks buying offsets are likely to be on a curve to reduce their carbon output over time if they are actually cognizant of making the effort to purchase offsets (ie. nudge factor)....except for Trudeau and his planes as that's totally avoidable as his competitors have shown with their single planes (although that's getting in the weeds from a big picture concept as he probably doesn't represent the long term majority).

scrapping a vehicle has it's own carbon footprint (Again assuming CO2 is even a problem).
shredding, compacting, transporting, remelting and converting into useable metals. Converting those metals into a low emission vehicle and not to mention all of the unusable materials that go to landfill.
I'd challenge that keeping an older vehicle on the road isn't such a bad choice. It may emit more, but the emissions required to convert it to a lower emissions vehicle go a long way to cancelling gains.
Just because plastic water bottles are recyclable it doesn't make them enviro friendly.
Really the root cause is having a dependency on cars, we've built our modern civilization around the automobile. Besides aren't vehicles 15% of the overall "problem" of CO2? I believe this includes jets and other modes of transport. So really Joe-blow with his 2010 Civic is NOT part of the problem to be honest. But hey it's an easy way to tax the poor and middle class... oops did I say that out loud?
That's why the whole climate debate irks me, I have yet to read the 1400+ reports but they don't make it super easy to find.

Only one person can make life easy - don't measure with what has been collected but by what has been achieved - give thanks for what you have - if getting what's needed for happiness is causing stress lower the standard - look around the world and compare - reach back to a time when life was good and work to recapture that - talk to friends to refocus and laugh there's people around who care, understand, and perhaps rely - treat everyone and everything with respect and do special things for loved ones - life and kindness is hard work that pays in the long run - stay fit and respect yourself and well being....Happy Thanksgiving Everyone. Enjoy this long weekend with friends and family and remember giving is good for the heart and soul and will make you feel large inside. I'm only a DM away - friends here have reached out to me and I'm grateful to that!

Dinner was a success. only issues was my wife asked them for a 6lb roast and they gave her a 6KG one. so I was lucky I had bought extra supplies. though probably should not have doubled the seasoning I enjoyed it but it was a little heavy on the pepper for the kids.
anyway, 13lbs of pork shoulder, 2 pie pumpkins, seasoning, hard cider and 4 hours in the oven
equals roasted deliciousness
18407
yes, i packed 13 lbs of seasoned pork into 2 pie pumpkins. poured in cider and brazed it for 4 hours,

I didn't get any pics of it all served out cuz I was too busy eating it. but this was by far the best pork i have ever had let alone cooked myself. so tender it just fell apart. so juicy. and the pumpkin turned out pretty good too.

Gotta throw the book at these fuckers (driver and passenger).
Police identify suspect in alleged hit-and-run that injured toddler
Toronto police have identified the alleged driver in a hit-and-run that badly injured a toddler, his mother and his grandmother over the long Thanksgiving weekend.
Sergeant Murray Campbell said Tuesday officers were seeking a warrant for the arrest of 34-year-old Derek Desousa, whose whereabouts is unknown. He did not say on what charges Mr. Desousa was sought.
Investigators are also looking to identify a man who was a passenger in the vehicle and is considered a person of interest in the case, Sgt. Campbell said.
Officers have said a grey SUV ran a red light on Sunday, mounting the sidewalk and hitting the family, who were standing on the curb.
They said the child’s stroller was smashed to pieces and the car’s front licence plate was dislodged in the impact. The vehicle’s three occupants took off, one of them on foot, police said.
Meanwhile, the three people struck – a 57-year-old woman, a 37-year-old woman and a 20-month-old boy – were seriously injured, police said.
The boy’s injuries were initially considered life-threatening, but Sgt. Campbell said Tuesday the child is expected to recover.
“He suffered a head injury and the prognosis is not known at this time,” he said in an e-mail.
Police earlier released images of a man they said abandoned the vehicle in the city’s East York neighbourhood.
Toronto’s mayor John Tory said Tuesday there is nothing the city could have done to prevent the crash, noting the family members were “doing what they were supposed to do” – standing on the sidewalk, waiting their turn to cross the street – when they were struck.
Mr. Tory added no government initiative could have stopped somebody driving in what he called “erratic circumstances.”
“It was a tragedy and I’m terribly sorry about it and I’m glad everybody seems to be recovering, but in this case it was not people who were crossing the street, they were standing on the curb,” he said.
Mr. Tory vowed earlier this year to lower speed limits and crack down on motorists who break traffic laws in an effort to reduce the number of pedestrian and cyclist deaths in the city.
The measures were part of an updated plan presented to city council over the summer, which also included other traffic-calming efforts such as changes to road design and additional crossings.
Pedestrian deaths reached a 10-year high in 2016, with 44 people killed that year. That number dropped slightly to 41 last year.
Sadly, fail to remain accidents have become all too common.

Exhaust gas runs through a heat exchange that has fresh cabin air flowing through it. Though I can understand based on the ancestral lineage why you may assume it's pumping deadly gas at people.

Stopped at a friend’s this afternoon for a beverage, get out of the car and look up to see about a million starlings that had been eating grapes from the vineyard next door. Needless to say I had to wash the car in the fantastic 9 degree weather this evening. Warming up with a delicious 8.5% limited edition beer now!

Attended a mini-class reunion downtown last night in lieu of the full 1999 Homecoming Weekend as I couldn't get away for the whole weekend - fun meeting up with a small group of classmates (mostly 20 years later for this particular small group). One person commented that she wasn't sure we'd all be recognizable in a noisy, downtown bar after all that time but turns out we haven't changed that much except for a few more pounds and grey hair. Out of 180 in the class we've lost 2 classmates over the years.

Oh what joy! Spent a few hours today running a network cable from the basement to the 2nd floor. Crimped on the connectors, test the connection with my signal tester. Only to see 1 of the 8 wires is showing a miss. OK, must be one of the wires in the connector that is the problem. Ended up redoing both connections. Nope, still showing wire number 6 is dead. Fuck it! Beer time... Now I have to re-run a new cable, damn it!

Watched episode 1 of 5 of "Chernobyl" miniseries on HBO. Good episode so curious to see how they present the rest of the series.
Just happens I was chatting with my Polish neighbour last weekend - he was heading back to visit his home town in the old country (his wife wants to move back for their retirement years) but that he lost all his family over the years to cancer (said all the pics they sent him in the years after the disaster were "yellow" in tone). He said all the animals from around that time died off from unusual diseases.
Just binge-watched this series yesterday. Wow.

Watched it at work, 2 episodes at a time as it was too disturbing to watch any more than that at once.
I also remember when it happened. Never thought anything about it really, but makes you think now how much we didn’t actually know about what was going on over there at the time.
Also I feel the need, the need for speed!!!! The movie that made every kid in North America want to be a fighter pilot and also ride a 900 Ninja!

P.S. I hate new tech in cars. I install this sweet tailgate LED stripe on the Ranger and now it thinks I'm towing a trailer lol I think I need to splice it into the normal tailight circuit, that will probably mess with the CANBUS and require some module... so a $30 mod will turn into either wasted $30 or a $200 mod lol
I'll probably use it on the notch somehow (if I can hide it) to make it a tad safer from rear-endings. lol

So this AM one of the guys in our shop (the one we pay to maintain our equipment) comes to my office and says "Hey Chris, I can't get any of the diesel heaters to fire up. I tried EVERYTHING and nothing worked. Watched a video, guy online says it HAS to be the mother board. I called XXXXXXX and they said they could look at them today. Can I take the shop truck and go drop them off and have them fix it?"
So be the natural skepic/asshole/know it all I am I decide to go in the shop and look at the units. First one, ask how old the Diesel in it is. Response ".............". Alright. So I drain the petcock. A nice blend of old diesel, water, and who fucking knows. Wonderbar. Fresh diesel in. Ok. Try firing, still nothing. Look at the fuel and air lines, seen aligators that were smoother. Grab some 1/4 line off the bench and rerun them. Clean up the igniter. We have liftoff on one.
Slap the second one on the bench, fuels been in this one longer than most of the guys we have on payroll. Swap it. Check lines, they look great. Ok lets fire it up, less than nothing. Get confused for a 20 minute period checking everything, including the air compressor that draws fuel in the line. All good. But it's not pulling and fuel from the tank. Huh. Suddenly wonder if the "EVERYTHING" included reversing the air and fuel lines. I confirm it does. Now, we have liftoff on two.
Third unit goes on the bench now, I a man who clearly loves to be disappointed decide fuck it lets just try and start this fucker. Liftoff on three.
So anyway, that's the story of why I forgot to drink the coffee I made this morning and how I learned the true meaning of "trying EVERYTHING"

tired. our main delivery guy quit. so been pulling double duty with my service calls and the deliveries. apparently I need to keep a closer eye on stuff getting done as well. he was suppose to be responsible of making sure the delivery truck was getting its service
I jumped in after he quit and on first walk around noticed the sticker was expired. then noticed the breaks squealing.
been at the shop since Monday. need breaks all the way around and a drippy coolent hose replaced. rear pistons were ceased. mechanic is saying so far looking about 4k for everything. fing awesome.
really important delivery tomorrow to an expanding high end neighborhood. and instead of the good truck we have to show up in the old beater. which apparently despite only having 160000k on a 2010 chev E3500 is not long for the world or will need serious work since there is a new no leaks aloud law with commercial inspections.

I have a mid-size Toro single stage, man it eats snow like nothing! Does a quick job and cleans right to the surface. I clear about 6 neighbouring driveways with it, so speed and efficiency is a factor. I would never go back to a 2-stage.
If you're interested in Toro, look what's available online at Kooy Brothers. Then head to Home Depot, price match and get an extra 10% discount!
First heavy snow n you'll be wishing you'd stuck with 2 stage.

Not sure. Got rid of it last season.. it was about 15 yrs old. Extremely heavy and the wheels barely turned on their own.. replaced a few parts over the years and gave up.
My father in-law had one. (Not sure on make) used it for years to clear his driveway (six cars with ease plus the drive) he never had an complaints. When I bought the JD2025R I sold him my 2 year old Simplicity 13hp 28” dual stage.
He gets the drive done much quicker and said it’s not as easy to move around for storage wise but far better in the deep snow.
He has kind of a country lot so can see some drifting.
If your in town or don’t deal with big drifts you would probably get away with a small single. Both work just have their strengths in different areas.
Bought a new Toro last fall, used it once in light snow n sold it. Poorly made / poor performing / under powered machine compared to my 20+ yr old Ariens with about a million hours on it.

who sells toro now? is it an HD house brand?
I would imagine you cant go wrong with a honda I dont think they are selling the branding off yet, even JD is into that now.
Lots of independent dealers plus HD sell em
While newer Ariens don't hold a candle build wise to the older machines, hands n feet above most others out there. Honda stuff looks to be top notch but damm do you pay for it.

Been checking out a bunch of YouTube vids of the Honda HS720 and it looks pretty solid. But yeah you do pay for it.. I’m ok with spending a bit more if it’s going to last.
My thing with a big 2 stage is that in my driveway I have to move cars to get it to where it needs to be... packing all the snow as I move them. A small single stage I can maneuver in between the cars. I dunno.. I think a single stage would do the job, just never used one before.

The better Ariens is the "Professional" line with the Briggs and Stratton engines...although they are much more expensive.

Which model? Single stage? The one I have is 20 years old and it's a beast! I bought a new Toro single stage (cheapest model) about 4 years ago for my dad's house. It does the job, but the quality like everything is not there anymore.
Believe it was 7 h/p dual stage, new.
Had couple of problems before it blew a single flake of snow, all poor quality related.
Keep in mind, comparing it to a blower thats got a ton of hours on it and previous to being mine had zero service.
Mine is same as below.

The wind whipped waves were so high my breakwall area is destroyed again!
Time to save up to have concrete laid in the spring, I'm too old to continually push the gravel back every time we have a storm.
A picture of the damage. The gravel is normally covering everything to the top of the break wall and the fire pit usually has the grey blocks piled all around.

Ya, concrete is just so much easier, had my patio done and driveway extended a few months back, wish I didn’t wait so long to do it!
What’s on my mind? Old Nissan Skylines, always wanted one, and the itch is harder to ignore lately. I’ll still likely never have one, but I can’t help but regret finding one in Ontario a few years back, from a member on GTAMC, that would have been perfect. I was asking for a friend, and wasn’t going to steal it out from under him, but he never moved on it, probably too late now, we’ll see I guess.

DO NOT GO TO A DEALERSHIP TO PUT WINTERS ON. Cost me roughly 350 bucks to swap tires on the single set of rims this weekend. OUCH! They charged me 2 hours of labor to do the work (but I was in the waiting room for 1.5 hours lol). I am so done with new cars and dealerships in general. It's a positive, I may actually stop buying new daily drivers every 6 months and I have permission to buy a new set of wheels for the truck.

I have an older Ariens compact 20. Has been an amazing machine. Has developed a small fuel leak when moving it around, doesn’t spill a drop when stored but sometimes find little splashes of fuel on the driveway when clearing snow.
Can’t figure out where it’s coming from. Need to have this looked at before the snow starts.
^ Fuel shut off valve or carb flooding perhaps?

then spent a couple hours helping the pops pull the power steering pump out of the tractor after he blew a hydraulic hose and stripped a fitting on the loader today.

no snow up till this week. maybe light stuff but would melt as soon as it hit the ground. Wednesday was cold but not crazy, been lots of rain and mud.
Thursday snow. wake up Friday to 6-10 inches. nice white blanket of heavy packing snow
Not gonna lie I don't hate it. I dislike the mud and muck and I dislike it being cold but wet. far prefer it just to be snow and done with. at least its pretty.

Partially my fault for trying to do something with barely enough time, never ends well for me. Fucking Poulan piece of shit was a gift thats been a nightmare from day one. Choke/Run mislabled from factory, fuel tank plastic cracked first year. To check the plugs you have to spend 20 minutes tearing all the plastic BS off it and it loves to foul them despite repeated profession carb adjustments. Never likes to start in negative temps (real great feature for a snow removal machine), but last time I tried quickstart on it there was fire...
If I can't get it going tonight I'm going to have some sledgehammer catharsis followed by extreme bitching as I shell out $1600 on a new machine...

I love snow blowing wet snow/slush on a cold night.....what fun
In some with the all in one coil / trigger, plug fouling / poor start is not caused by an overly rich mixture but instead by a weak spark. Yes that could be the no start cold as could either wrong heat range plug and or sometimes a flaky oil level switch. If it sits outside, especially with no electric start, also benefits from lighter range of oil suggested to make it both easier to pull / rolls over faster n starts easier. In case of my own blower, engine so worn out we run 15w40 in it but no way in hell it would start if we left it outside (sits in shop all winter / always fires first or second pull). When filled with 0w or 5w, looks more like a 2 stroke mosquito killer vs a snowblower. LOL
If all checks out and yours is still a flaky cold starter, consider a stick on block heat (glues to crank case) and a timer, that'll smarten things up in a hurry.

During one of the first big snow falls of the season, provincial police reported 213 collisions in less than 12 hours across southwestern Ont., all before the evening rush hour had even begun.
OPP Media Relations Coordinator Derek Rogers said police patrolling the West Region had hoped drivers would have adjusted their habits behind the wheel after the first dusting of snow late last week.
<section id="inread-wrapper-id-6" style="font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif; font-size: 16px;"></section>"That has not been the case," he explained pointing to the numbers coming from in an area that spans from Windsor to the edge of the GTA and north to Georgian Bay.
The 213 crashes happened between 5:45 a.m. and 4:15 p.m, and none of them resulted in life-threatening injuries.
