agree, it almost seems like companies like rivian are promising stuff that the current tech just cant support, (drum up investors maybe?) would make sense that the current guys just are not releasing anything that they aren't 100% sure on. from what I have read a lot of the electric offerings are just not meeting in real world what they are rated at. as a service tech in rural area it will be a long long time with some real world backing of numbers before I drop any kind of money into electric

because the increase in production that would be required switching vehicles from gas to electric would have to come from somewhere. and since you will never get another hydro dam built in north america and nucelar is so long term build project and feared for "nuclear"

you will see mostly natural gas plants built, all the bragging from governments about eliminating coal, required building gas fired plants.

its hard to be definitive with limited real world numbers about what is sustainable and what the energy draw would be

True but the concept of paying to sleep on a stranger's couch or their spare bedroom versus a traditional hotel was crazy and now AirBnB is a massive hotelier with no hotel assets, or getting in a car with a stranger to have them drive you somewhere - that used to be called hitchhiking and was considered dangerous but now everyone is doing it everywhere.

Yes the lower volume sold will likely mean higher prices but AI/robotics will do even more of the building in the future (offset assembly cost?) since they'll be a composition of circuit boards, chipsets, and network/communication devices to "talk" to and coordinate with other machines.

It's hard to believe, but when I was young my path crossed with Dellen Millards and his father. I was too young to remember or just plain ignored him. My mom says he was a terrible boy and maybe that's why I don't remember, I tended to stay away from problem people as I grew up in a less than desirable neighbourhood. When I was in College I did meet his grand father Carl Millard. He was a very nice man who allowed me into his hanger at the airport, that faced Derry Rd. I was there to photograph his prop engine airplanes and he was very happy to take time out from his day to talk to me. Whenever I see his grandson in the news I think of that day and his grandfather.

After 2 years or work when time and space allowed, the table for the in laws is finally pretty much finished.
Couple touch ups and install levellers for the end leaves. And should be ready to go into their dinning room Friday, just i time for Christmas dinner on Sunday.
Then I get to remove everything from my wood shop so the resto company can come it and clean up after the fire.

Canadian tire has a boxing day sale (I dont leave the house on boxing day) on the dewalt.. $80 I think.. maybe that's an option.

...I'd consider a torques wrench failed if inaccurate or failing to be repeatable. With a cheapo how do you know.

I built a digital torque wrench back in my university days, and tested it as above. Mind you it was only a 1/4” drive and measured lbin.

Tested a couple of cheaper versions against my calibrated Snap on, although others are off by a pound or three, repeatably has been decent / more than good enough for what most here will use them for.

In the trucking industry wheel torque is important - available are various length extensions that will allow only so much torque but twisting (most people don't use). I seldom use a torque wrench (I use on truck tires just to make sure all nuts have snugged - I wont get into the details) but always try to know what the torque rate is - although it's probably important on a set of heads where gasket compression is critical I would use a torque wrench. I've read articles that have made comparisons testing torque wrenches of all qualities. The test showed that the top of the line was no better then the cheapo's. They all lost calibration after some use and it was surprising how quickly. I think the most important thing to torqueing is to be equal throughout and follow the correct sequence. Some people use lock tight, personally I've never done this a have had no trouble if you understand the importance of sequence and get close to the correct tightening spec.

This is my snap-on wheel torque wrench good for 600 ft. pounds, I gernerally set it for 525'pds.for these hub pilot wheels - There's many things to consider when wheels this size are tightened - new wheels vs old rusted wheels, older hubs vs new hubs, old wheel nuts, old studs vs new studs, aluminum hubs vs steel hubs - I generally tighten the nuts with my 1" drive impact and check with my torque wrench. As for fines I'm not sure. When I opened my M.V.i.S. station a wheel torques wrench was not required - but that may have changed...

Found this odd today.
Went to chain electronics store to buy a gift for Kath, was at the door when it opened. Up to the counter and asked if he could tell me where they are kept, takes a minute n comes back saying sorry never have in stock available on line only. Well don't I feel stupid, thought I'd looked it up correctly before leaving home but clearly I've made a mistake. Head home to quickly search for another option on where to purchase, screen I'd previously been looking at was still open, well I'll be dammed if it doesn't show they are not only sold in the stores but this place has them in stock in another color. Shiat, was going to call store back but opted instead to call another one in Markham. Super pleasant guy on the phone not only looked it up and said in stock but then insisted I hold for a second while he ran to check the shelf, back a moment later confirming in his hand then offered to leave it at the cash with my name on it. Got his name, hung up and headed on over. Sure enough, at the cash with no hassle, paid for it and was standing for a minute thinking about how much this guy made my day, asked cashier if she could direct me to him or ask him to come over. Guess mgr heard and trailed the guy over to where I was standing expecting I was there to complain, stuck my mitt out and shook his hand and thanked him they stuck a $20 in his hand. Mgr stepped up and said tipping was not allowed, sorry Mr mgr, wasn't gonna fly with me, told him I wasn't taking no for an answer. Went on to tell him how I'd been screwed around at another store and wanted everyone involved to know just how much I truly appreciated his employee's effort.

Being in a head on collision is a scary thing. It happened to me in 2006 when I was driving to work and a student drove in the wrong lane on Steeles Ave just west of Willowdale Ave. It was a car in front of me that got the head on hit and I was right behind that car. I steered to avoid the hit but it happened so fast I still clipped the left front corner. I was off work for a month after that accident. These drivers are getting worse and worse. F’ You shitty distracted drivers!

I think this is the main reason I don’t completely hate the idea of self driving cars. When the light turns green if done correct every car in line should be able to start rolling as soon as the light changes. Put just a couple people in line not paying attention then You get traffic backing up.
