Crappy. I feel your pain. I used to get cluster headaches all the time when I was younger. The doctor gave me these crazy pills that were definitely a narcotic. Got rid of the pain though. Now I get sinus ones and the odd migraine. They all suck though.

Because when a draft is issued the money is removed from the persons account and placed in a holding account within TD. So TD bears responsibility for that draft, if they were to reissue another and then both items were cashed, it would essentially cost TD the full value of the draft. Generally to refund a draft the original must be returned to the branch and be destroyed to prevent that situation from occurring.

Sounds to me like there is potentially a belief the original may attempt be cashed.

It's not that simple when dealing with internal GL's and it being basically a cash instrument. Say someone does have it they go to an RBC or a Scotia, they cash it. There's no way for an employee of another FI to know that it's been flagged at TD as lost or stolen. So now that person has access to $850k, they wire it to another account or spend it all. By the time it goes through the first FI's clearing and reaches TD to even get flagged as lost or stolen the money is long gone.

Hard to tell what actually happened in the conversation at the bank - would be surprised if the bank did not also indicate the wire transfer option. Customer went in for bank draft (which I think has a dollar limit on it) and the person at the bank may have said they could use certified cheque (I think cost is $15) or wire transfer (cost could be up to $100). Or they could have gotten an employee who wasn't trained properly or just lazy.

Bank draft does not go stale. The one obvious thing is even if someone tried to cash it, the bank isn’t gonna give them “cash”. Reminds me of the shiat TD put me through trying to pay a small balance off on my previous truck before trading in. Play in my mind, geared to keep me trapped into using them for any financing moving forward. Must think everyone is dumb as a brick, traded truck with outstanding balance, paid balance off to the dealer as part of the new purchase so as to avoid the banks bs of clearing the lien would take three or four weeks if I'd paid off with them n delayed my deal. I can only assume tactics must be similar between the whole bunch which means loose one customer pick up another one and round n round it goes.
This spring will = mortgage free, yea theres gonna be a party. I'm sure at least some will remember my post about their high handed tactics couple days before my last renewal when I explained to the mortgage specialist I was going to pay the mortgage off on my cibc credit card then use their money for free to shop somewhere else for my renewal unless they quit screwing around n got things done how we'd previously agreed. This after her boldly explaining there was no chance I'd be able to arrange a mortgage elsewhere in such a short time. Agree that TD was being difficult with them and just dragging it out.

The CPA does indicate that cheques are stale-dated after 180 days but doesn't apply to drafts, certified items, money orders as you noted but they recommend that the FI looking to honour it should confirm by phone/fax or sent for collection to the originating FI first before paying out (if after 180 days). You'd think they would do this for that amount of money anyway whether less than or above the 180 days to make sure it isn't fraudulent and not put these folks through all the hoops that they ignored anyway.

Luckily I have a short drive to the office, drove home holding the door handle to keep door closed.

Got home and the f n door latches when I closed it.


Hopefully Parts come in quickly for the recall.

So someone put the dog outside and somehow the door got closed.....sadly my best guess is he was out there for at least 3hrs. Got him in. You know honestly not sure, with batteries whenever they died I always took it as an opportunity to spring for a good deep cycle aftermarket unit.

I have the Noco GB40 jump pack in the truck, nice compact sized unit. Says it can jump up to a 6L motor, have absolutely jumped a Triton V10 off it.

Most of the people I've met are too stupid and ignorant of their subsequent stupidity to be allowed to impact customer decisions or be viewed as a credible source of information. Tire reviews are such a clusterfuck. So many variables can contribute to poor driving dynamics including worn or broken suspension components, driving style, ever changing temperature and weather conditions, vehicle modifications, etc. I'm so sorry that putting Pirelli Sottozeros didn't enable your 1997 Camry to glue to a iced over onramp in -20C temps but that's hardly a tire issue. Same goes for truck guys who don't pay attention to load index/range and then complain a soft luggy mud tire that looks oh so cool feels weird under your 1-ton super duty.

It’s like this for everything anymore.

People don’t take care of stuff or use it correctly then blame the manufacture or the seller.

Hell I had a guy write a bad review for a washer, my story as the seller and my service company who came and fixed it. Because he went threw 3 drain pumps in one year.

Never mentioned in the reviews that each of the drain pumps had screws go threw them because he wouldn’t empty his pockets.

Covered under basic warranty, 3/60. Honestly I only remember ever changing one under warranty, even in this weather I don’t see issues with them, usually good for at least 5 years from my experience.
Fiat batteries are crap though, change them all the time, lol.

Once down there simple fix. Someone, previous owner, had spray foam on one side of the pipes....left the side facing the cold wall exposed. I have some heat in the crawl space but it couldn't reach that one side. Also piled snow near the vents just to be sure the wind stays out; pretty fierce on the lake.

It would, but the main issue is the direction of the wind and how cold it has been.

Lived here 10 years and only the second time this happened. The first time put the foam insulation around most of the pipes. Obviously I missed a spot plus I didn't realize this particular section was a problem. First glance tells you the pipe is insulated until you look at the back side and see it open. My crawl space is actually one of the nicer ones, gravel bed, 3 feet high and the furnace is hung from the rafters and does provide secondary heat. It was warm when I went down....just one problem area.
Going to be in the low 40s F by Thursday here.

Yep. It’s 2 inches of blue styrofoam all around the block walls. Of course access points not insulated enough, but are far from pipes. As I noted the furnace hang from the rafters and does provide heat. There was one vent that was partially open that likely contributed too. I try to pile snow around those to block the wind.

Most places I've dealt with enact this, standard fare. Basically a warning that

"Special order or non-standard items are non refundable. By entering in to the purchase of this item the customer agrees to payment in full for the item regardless of any fitment, feature, or other perceived issues with the item. Manufacturers defects or failures within in warranty will be handled in accordance with the individual manufacturers policy. XYZ Business has made the customer aware of this policy at the time of purchase as reflected by the accepted signature below."

Could also add a check box/inital clause to the purchase agreement that states "Customer has been advised by XYZ Business that the products being ordered may not meet their needs and requirements or may not be a suitable choice given the usage specified. The customer bears full responsibility for any denial of warranty or service based on damage resulting from misuse and acknowledges that a refund for this product shale be made at the discretion of XYZ business.


As ZR stated however, this may stop people from kicking down your door or allow to slightly embarrass them should the opportunity arise however in small claims court you may be sewered. Best bet really at the end of the day when an customer looks like they will be a problem is to not allow them to purchase the unit, even if it costs a sale.

We do. Unfortunatly sometimes people don’t care what they signed.

I’m not worried about how court would go. They would have to prove that we mislead them. But the poor review backlash can be brutal anymore because people don’t have to prove any wrong doing tonpost stuff online. They just need an axe to grind.

I have one of those too - older Panasonic with a display. Did not realize they got rid of that feature.

I hear you Richard. Was faced with the same issue a few months ago when I was shopping. I gave in and went with a Samsung 4K player that did not have a display. Frankly now that I have used it for a bit I actually think the TV on screen display is much better than what was previously available directly on the player. For one thing it is much easier to see on TV if you are seated any distance from the player/TV.

I accidentally clicked that little Heart on my iPhone , never realized it was tracking my steps . Didn’t leave the garage was cleaning up, 2km’s walked , went back to see days I worked & looks like average days 4500 steps or 2km roughly. Fox parts arrived... saved a ton on shipping with cross border pickups. Pretty disappointed with LMR this time around... they packed my tailpipes and pan hard bar in the same box, just bangin around in there the whole time. The box was pretty much destroyed when I picked it up. Tailpipes look to be ok.
